San Francisco killing: Gun belonged to federal agent - CNN.com

San Francisco (CNN)The shooting death of a San Francisco woman had already fueled a fresh round of fierce debate over U.S. immigration policies. Now a new detail in the investigation adds another dimension to the discussion.

The gun used in the killing of Kate Steinle belonged to a federal agent, a source with knowledge of the investigation said.

The undocumented immigrant who's accused in the killing earlier told CNN affiliate KGO-TV that he found the gun wrapped inside a T-shirt.

Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez, who has a felony record and has been deported to Mexico five times, pleaded not guilty to murder and weapons charges. His bail was set at $5 million.

this is turning into a True Detective episode. and it will gain momentum and become a BIG part of the upcoming election. It could really give the GOP candidates traction, no doubt.

Democratic immigration policy is as responsible for this cold blooded murder as the murderer himself.

Or you know, the responsibility could fall on the killer himself, or the Federal Agent that owned the gun. But lets ignore personal responsibility and play the fun game of politics!

I thought you guys were all about "personal responsibility". What happened?

good point. too bad so many liberals would blame the NRA or the gun maker! the killer needs to be returned to mexico-one piece at a time. the agent may be blameless or should be brought up on charges. there is something to be said for deported felons who return being fair game

So throw basic human rights out the window?

Wow!

What an amazing turn of events.

To paraphrase V.P. Biden, "This is a big deal!"

The following quote is from the linked article:

"The undocumented immigrant who's accused in the killing earlier told CNN affiliate KGO-TV that he found the gun wrapped inside a T-shirt."

Seven felonies, five deportations, purposely living in a Sanctuary City illegally, murder, a federal agent's firearm is the murder weapon - wow! This is going to be one helluva' investigation & indictment into all the governmental agencies, thier agents, and their policies regarding this matter.

people who commit felonies-are then deported to the country from which they came and then re-entered should be shot on site or jailed for life if they are caught committing another felony since they have proven that deporting them doesn't stop their predations. In the SW USA 40% of those doing federal prison time are illegals. I really don't have much use with illegals who come to our country, violate our immigration laws and on top of that murder, rape or rob our citizens. The ideal solution would be for would be victims to kill these scum bags during attacks. but that isn't going to happen enough.

That's only for white supremacist mass murderers.

what about black mass murderers like the atlanta child killer or the DC sniper?

well he should be tried and convicted before being executed and returned to mexico, that's in keeping with basic constitutional rights, human rights don't exist, you have exactly zero rights on the basis of being a human, you only have rights by living in a society that chooses to recognize you have them btw.

Seriously though, it's not like this guy was ignored, he was deported many times for criminal behavior, it's not like he was being held sanctuary in SF...

while this is a tragic case, I fail to see the point people are making about immigration laws, unless you plan to hold every illegal immigrant indefinitely, all twelve million of them, what can you do? he was arrested and deported multiple times, the law was enforced against him to the letter.

So in other words, "yes, throw human rights out the window".

when someone has been convicted of a felony-deported, comes back and engages in more felonious behavior how many more "human rights" should he have? I guess you forget socialist states used to SHOOT people trying to LEAVE

You're not helping your case much here. When non-white criminals commit some heinous crime (DC Sniper), it's the failure of a larger socioeconomic/religious infrastructure - as per the right wing contingent. When white supremacist killers do it, they're the only ones who need to be held responsible because they cray-cay. I mean, it's not like the DC Sniper wasn't chucked up to good old Islam's doing. Never heard of the first guy though so I couldn't tell you. ;)

I say it matters not-I wish the would be victims of any serial killer-no matter what color he is-would gun them down. wasn't the first guy named Wayne williams though as I recall he might have been framed.

serial killers kill because they are evil MFs pure and simple

i don't want my OP to sound like I'm glad this happened. it's a tragedy. and it always sickens me when the liberals turn a tragedy into political gain overnight. but my point is Trump and his comments have turned this entire issue into a grenade field for any politician to comment on. So this event encapsulates and motivates an ACTUAL DISCUSSION of the issue. that is why I think it might be an important case. It will help us solve the problem that many(up to now) were to politically scared to speak on.

We are. Maybe Democrats should admit their policies suck....I mean holy ****....this mother****er is in the country AGAIN due to a sieve border and a refusal to deport and prosecute....things Obama is calling "discretion" on his part (its not really discretion, it is de-facto legislation, illegal and Unconstitutional by the way, not that Obama has ever respected the Constitution, it was written by white men after all). Josh "not so" Earnest is blaming Republicans! What in the hell did Republicans to do enable this? They want to lock the border down and keep maggots like this murderer OUT of the United States. So what exactly are you ****ing talking about, socialist?

Ummmm I did blame the killer. I also blamed the policies (which Democrats support. If you forgot, those are the people you vote for while you pretend Republicans are racist and mean and hate babies or something) that enable him to continue to come back into this country and commit heinous crimes.

He went into a sanctuary city. He didn't have to be responsible for breaking US law. The city of San Francisco saw to that.
