Subway's Jared Fogle the target of a police raid...

I appreciate that, but in my view it's undeniable that in today's America the private lives and actions of employees or spokespeople are directly linked to their employers and if their employers don't banish them immediately they are tarred as supporters or condoning the actions/words of the employee. You see it time and time again. Donald Trump is the latest example.

Many American corporations now have HR professionals who scan the social media accounts of their employees and will immediately fire anyone seen to be using speech that may badly reflect on the corporation. The need to vilify any speech that is not acceptable to the collective is out of control. In my view, it is no different from McCarthyism and the stain of that on America mid-20th century.

A very thought provoking post. I believe you are right. America.. "the land of the free".... should be "the land of the free as long as you act like your employer wants you to"

We supposedly fear for our freedoms.. but have no problem with corporations telling us what we can do in our private lives, in our vehicles, what we say.. who we associate with etc. Heck our compensation is now dependent on the religious beliefs of our employers and the government cannot even grant us equal protection under the law if the employer is of a preferred religion.

Now.. that being said... I have HR professionals that scan social media accounts of employees and prospective employees. Word to the wise... don't post a picture of you on a boat drinking beer and title it "Called out Sick!"..

That is the conservative dilemma isn't it? Whining about how what we do in our lives is being eroded yet being champions for "right to work" AND hating unions with a passion. How do conservatives constantly hold two completely opposite ideas in their heads with such comfort?

And back on topic; Poor Jared Fogle. Judge not lest ye be judged and yet he loses his job as a spokesman because of guilt by association. I too would like to know how it's possible it got leaked to the media on what the investigation was about. The leak was 100% malicious as far as I can tell. Let's say Jared did have kiddie porn on his computers. If it's being announced all over the media then doesn't that give him time to flee the country?

Uhh, when the police are raiding a house it's pretty normal for the media to know why.

I don't think anything really "leaked" anyways.

It was known in the media that the person involved with his foundation was being investigated (and I think arrested) on child pornography charges.

Shortly after that Jared's house is raided.

It doesn't take a genius to come up with speculation on why that may be, especially if you're not one to believe in coincidences.

I have no issue with people trying to speculate and talk about hypotheticals. I do have issues with people acting as if it's a definitive thing and already condemning him as if he DID do something as opposed to that he MIGHT have done something.

I don't even know what allegations have been made, only that the feds seized the home computer and other electronics. And I'd still like to know how the camera people knew to be on that street in advance of the early-morning raid.

What I find so disturbing is the leaping to conclusions and judging this man guilty before any charges against him have been made and then pronouncing him ruined regardless.

That's the thing I don't like. This seems like a leak.

you may not like it, but you represent the company you work for 24 hours a day, seven days a week

most transgressions go unnoticed, and you never will hear a word about them

but if you end up in the news, whether intentional or not....that can reflect on the company you work for

we live in a 24 hour news cycle world, and so many people are plugged into social media also

you get drunk off hours, and end up killing someone in a dui.....you can probably kiss your job goodbye

you dont like it....start your own company....and see how much you watch your employees

All this is so true...but the point is that none of us knows of any wrong done by Jared Fogle. Presumably, Subway does and chose to cut ties. At least I hope Subway knows something we don't know and didn't cut him loose simply because, to use a word employed in this thread, because he was "tainted" regardless.

Only in the eyes of small-minded people. Unfortunately, there are a lot of those around.

i am assuming that they know more than we do at this point

but here is their dilemma

lets say they dont have anything more than we do....it's your company....and your number # 1 spokesman is now tied to a child pornography case

what do you do?

we know his best friend is in deep trouble.....is it as simple as they corresponded with each other?

or is it possible that Jared was somehow involved?

do you do nothing as the company president? and how much bad press might that cause?

or do you preempt the bad press, and disengage Jared's services until you know more?

I think this sucks....but if i am the president of the company, i think i make the same decision

i wouldnt want to....but not doing so risks too much in today's world

If the FBI is going through his house it means they have probable cause (not proof). Also a woman who knew Jared claims that he told her in all seriousness that middle school girls are hot.
Jared Fogle Investigated After He Allegedly Called Middle School Girls Hot : People.com

I do think that if the FBI cannot find any evidence of wrongdoing Subway should resume their business relationship with him.

Until real evidence comes out that he was involved, I will stand by him and his innocence. This happens too often in western culture where men are labeled sexual predators even before they are given the opportunity to step into a court room and defend themselves. I value hearsay from women who claim to have heard him say certain things as much as I value someone who claimed to have slipped on a wet floor in a supermarket so they can sue for a big payday. He is as much a target for gold digging women as any man with money. And what most men with money find out, is that if they don't dish it out, they will find women who are quick to get revenge.

That article doesn't have much on detail - it doesn't say exactly what was found at Fogels house - nor the quantity, nor the type. It also doesn't provide exactly what charges he is pleading guilty to - which he will have to do in front of the court I believe. His Subway career is over that's a definite. I'd be interested to find out what constituted this plea deal and the circumstances.

It is possible that they laid out a dooms day scenario to him and he took a plea deal because it was only 5 degrees of hell instead of 7.

Key word: possible.

I have no idea of he's guilty, or not. My senses tell me he probably is in some way, but at the same time things like I said above are not uncommon, so I have to be skeptical.

Absolutely. He may have had 1 picture or a million pictures of child porn. That he's going to plea means to cut his losses, save his family the embarrassment of a trial, and they don't have large legal fees (since his cash cow of Subway dropped him and there is no one who would touch him for a future endorsement). It's what he pleas to... is it jail time or just getting added to the sexual offender database? I wish there were more details but that apparently will take time.

Yeah, the laws around sexual offenses can be amazingly trivial in this country.... so we really need some more information and that article just didn't deliver.

That is the biggest problem with such plea deals, which are now the rule rather than the exception; the need for a trial is dropped and the public has little way to know whether the deal was a good one for the people or not. One can assume that the charge and/or the sentence was reduced from what the accused (and/or their lawyer) was expecting or the plea deal would have been rejected.

Or he plead guilty because the FBI had digital evidence. His own wife is divorcing him over this. It looks like you trust him more than his wife does. The claims made against him are really specific so the state probably has some really strong sounding evidence. Who would plead guilty to child pornography charges and accept 12 years in jail and a ruined career without a fight if he was innocent?

It's difficult to have any sympathy for these people when help is so readily available.

I read something today from one of the news feeds in my Facebook account that Fogel said, "The younger, the better." If I find it, I'll post the link.

Jeez...on top of everything else, this Jared guy is stupid.

Apparently, his partner in crime was arrested on child pornography charges roughly two months before the police searched Jared's home...yet the Subway guy still held onto porn and tried to have sex with a minor during that time.

What a maroon as well as a sick ****.

And the Jared jokes are flowing. I swear it's like everyone is dusting off their Michael Jackson jokes and giving them new life with a subway spin on it now.

Jared... Enjoying a $5 footlong in prison now.

Jared started and ended his career trying to get into smaller pants.

This stuff isn't looked upon well in prison. His crime and his fame might have him in isolation from the general population. I think he'd be a target.

Nah, he looks street tough to me. Am certain he can throw them like Tyson.

Well but lets face it, aren't you glad people who victimize children at least can't help themselves? at least it means they're easy to catch when they do it.

You'd make a good juror then.

I would not want to be on the jury for a sick trial like this.
