KKK Plans Confederate Flag Rally at SC Capitol

Who are you that anyone "must" prove anything to you? Why not put your arrogant, pissy attitude aside and try to converse instead of looking for ways to insult?

Well, that begs the question....who do I have to be? Actually, I thought I was being nice, considering she has already admitted that she belongs to UDC that is famous for revising southern history. Since this is a debate forum and the thread is about the CF, I think I am completely within my right as a participating member of DP to ask for proof of her assertions in the course of the debate, however that may offend your sensibilities. If you have a problem with that, then take it up with a moderator.

ooohhh..... I've heard of them....

Yeah, they kinda have a rather public persona.

It's their right. Plus it might be entertaining to see a large group of POS's protesting.

Well, that's about the biggest bunch of Bull **** I've ever read in here....Congratulations, you win the prize.

"Why not put your arrogant, pissy attitude aside and try to converse instead of looking for ways to insult?"

Hypocrisy, much?

This is a classic guilt by association fallacy. The majority of those who wave the Confederate flag are ordinary, law-abiding citizens proud of their heritage, not hateful ideologues.

I think it's that "heritage" part that is the problem. A "heritage" involving the suffering of other people is nothing to be proud of. And since those other people are co-citizens, the respectful thing to do would be not to wave the symbol of their suffering as something to be proud of. It's just common decency. Of course, if a person doesn't care about the other people, even to this day, that would be a different matter.

Been told them a dozen times in as many ways. It doesn't matter and they do not care. Pity the common decency to which you speak is absent.

Is there a way for you to prove that what the veterans told your granddaddy is true? Like perhaps, some kind of documentation or historical written record by people who were actually there during the civil war and in their own words? Because without it...it makes you the revisionist.

Mainly Daughters of the Confederacy magazines, which like I said I gave away to a horse trainer friend of mine. Still they use writings and excerpts from journals all throughout the magazines. I highly doubt those soldiers were lying.

Well, I've cited plenty of evidence about how the Rebel flag was used in the 1950s and 1960s. You disregard it so I figured there must be some reason you dismiss photographs of the era available with a 2 second Google image search and substitute your own, backed by nothing.

I don't think they are listening. There minds are made up just like conservative minds always are. It is sad that the men that used to flag to represent segregation and racism have ruined the symbolism they appear to revere so much. But I can see how it is truly hurtful for the African Americans that remember those days and it is for that reason that the flag should be removed from all Govt. land and the Miss. State flag needs to be changed too. Those that disagree are blaming the wrong people though.

 You laugh, but my sofa repair guy actually did that. He was under surveillance (don't remember why, don't care) and he named his wifi something like Georgia Bureau of Investigation, just to mess with them.

excellent points
there was a time when that confederate battle flag was actually a symbol of a proud confederate heritage
but that positive symbol was co-opted by the Jim Crow loyalists who turned it into a symbol of those opposed to racial equality
which is why it should never now appear on any government/government-issued property

My first thought, too. Not exactly the wisest PR move.

It demonstrates how far in mental delusion some folks on the far right are that they cannot even see how they are rightly perceived by the larger society which does not share their mental illness and delusions.

That's it buddy. Just like the several thousand year old good fortune symbol, otherwise known as the swastika was co-opted by Hitler and used to promote his unspeakable terror, it too can never be used again.

What I meant was if you had any "verifiable" sources. Your granddaddy and UDC magazines are not verifiable sources. Are those your only sources for knowledge about the Civil War?

Main ones. Also UDC magazines are verifiable. Not my fault you have to be a member of the organization to get them. Most organizations are that way.

Good luck getting Mississippi's flag changed. They voted 2 - 1 to keep it as is.

Who do you have to be? You don't have to be anyone, but you'll find in life that demanding something in conversation usually makes people think you're an a-hole, and won't lead to anything productive in that conversation.

Actually, I thought I was being nice,...

Really? See when you challenge someone like this---

So, it wasn't good enough for you to have a polite conversation, no. You had to not only call into question what vets told her grandfather, but further insult her by demanding that she document, and research for you what was related to her from her grandfather, instead of doing your own research, as though you are someone who is deserving of some deference in matter. IOW, you were rude, and arrogant. If you don't believe her, fine, you don't have to, but you don't have to be rude in expressing that.

considering she has already admitted that she belongs to UDC that is famous for revising southern history.

What would a resident of Utah know of "Southern History"? Other than the revision undergone by years of liberal indoctrination that is?

I know full well what this site is about, and really don't need your snarky little explanation of what you think needs to be adhered to...All you do with your attitude is reinforce what is generally thought of liberal expression.

If you have a problem with that, then take it up with a moderator.

I don't go cryin' to 'mommy' and 'daddy' with every jack ass comment others make like libs do....;)

The South Carolina House of Representatives approved removing the Confederate battle flag from the Statehouse grounds and placing it in a museum after a contentious debate that stretched into Thursday.

Next, the bill goes to the desk of Gov. Nikki Haley, who had asked lawmakers to agree to take down the flag in the wake of the June 17 massacre of nine black parishioners at a Charleston church. The banner, whose defenders say it symbolizes their Southern heritage, could come down within days.

The governor hailed the House's action, saying it heralded "a new day in South Carolina."

South Carolina governor hails Confederate flag vote as 'a new day' - LA Times

It sure does....It herald's a day where SC politicians give in to mob demands instead of governing.
