Texas AG Says Workers Can Refuse Marriage Licenses to Gays[W:297]

Re: Texas AG Says Workers Can Refuse Marriage Licenses to Gays

Yet you was the one who claimed intelligence in your posts. The irony....

There's a reason for that. Probably because of the intelligence in my posts.
I won't hold it against you if you didn't notice. I mean, how could you?

Re: Texas AG Says Workers Can Refuse Marriage Licenses to Gays

I am already paying for it. 55% of my property taxes go to a bloated school system that will now have it in their heads that they have to teach children that homosexuality is normal.
All this because they can now get married? As I said how do you come up with all this idiocy?

Re: Texas AG Says Workers Can Refuse Marriage Licenses to Gays

Naturally, I mean why else would you. Then again the reason being rational or intelligent is an entirely different matter.

Yes, yes, it mush have been the really small print...

No one can notice what does not exist.

I mean, how could you?
It was you with the false claim

No, this has been going on since the whole gay hysteria started. Which shouldn't be apart of what they teach in schools.
But, since they are, they'll need more money for the books and special teachers to really beat it into the children's head. And, guess who pays for all that?

You're getting better. Not showing that public school education as much.
Now, what is it that you want to know?

You really think that being a spelling nazi somehow adds validity to your failed arguments? Why not try offering support to your outlandish claims first? It would demonstrate intellect...

I already did that. You're just feeling the D-K effect.

Re: Texas AG Says Workers Can Refuse Marriage Licenses to Gays

I knew this would come. I am not surprised it comes from Texas. Telling employees they need not give a license leaves the AG and the state libel in every way. I think this protest is foolish as it won't come to anything except lawsuits and lawyers in Texas all buying new Mercedes. SCOTUS will not like this.
I don't see why this necessarily leads to lawsuits, or why it can't be done in a way that avoids contempt charges. So long as there is someone in the office that can issue licenses, it doesn't really matter much if it's Bob or Barbara taking care of you. It only turns into a problem if they're not issuing licenses to one group altogether (i.e. all clerks claim a religious exemption).

The suggestion of lawsuits came from AG Paxton. He told employees they can refuse to issue licenses and if later lawsuits occurred there would be a legal to team to defend them. The Attorney General spoke about this. Religious views would not be an excuse for doing your job. Not doing the job you were hired for by non issuance of a license might be illegal Paxton must think.

This is worthless posturing since gay couples have already been married in dallas, and that's just the first google link i saw. So in other words every gay couple can just travel to dallas to get the license. Again, they shouldn't have to, but this notion that SSM doesn't exist in texas currently, thanks to this pissant, is 100% false

No it's not the "not their job part," it's contempt of the supreme court. They will most definitely be sued and arrested, and i doubt any clerk is going to take that chance just because some politician wants media attention

They aren't going to stop gay couples in texas from marrying anyway - all they need for that is one clerk somewhere - so it's all delusional

Re: Texas AG Says Workers Can Refuse Marriage Licenses to Gays

Now we get to see if a SCOTUS decision to expand one group's rights actually trumps an enumerated right that has been protected since the 1st amendment was created. This is when things get interesting.

Sorry....but there is no enumerated right to be a bigot.

you're not paying enough in property taxes then

"Libertarian - Right"

You need to change that moniker to something else. While you might be right wing you are no libertarian.

This site is full of right-wing Republicans who are too embarrassed to admit that they are Republican so they use the "Libertarian" label. Their posts constantly give them away though....

I don't know that anyone was hired to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, that just recently became part of the job description. The office could make it a job requirement for all clerks, but I don't know that they're required to so long as they can work out a solution that keeps everyone at least somewhat happy. Clearly, it would need to be a requirement for some.

Who says the religious exemption has to be about the sexes of the couple? And who says they would have to be the same? Maybe one objects to their religion or relative religions, one objects to their being an interracial couple, and the other objects to their different socio-economic classes getting married. All of these things can be and are religious objections from one group or another.

I'm paying too much as it is. Now, I'll probably have to pay to clean up after the hands on segment of gay studies is finished.

Re: Texas AG Says Workers Can Refuse Marriage Licenses to Gays

just because they are a public employee they do not give up their 1st amendment rights one of which is free exercise of religions.
IE the government cannot force them to do something against their religious beliefs.

if anything texas will have to make reasonable accommodations for those people and find someone who will issue them.

They still have the free exercise of their religion....no one is preventing them from going to church.

Are you seriously arguing that they can say that since their religion teaches them that races should not mix...they could deny an inter-racial couple a licensed based on their bigotry...um....I mean "religion"?

It's really simple. Would it be okay for someone at the DMV to claim a religious exemption to having to issue a license to a woman, so long as someone else was available to wait on any woman who came through the DMV? What about a DMV person refusing to issue a driver's license to any Muslim or Mexican? Would that be legally okay so long as someone else was available (and there is always someone else in every DMV I've ever been in) to deal with those particular types of people?

I suppose it's up to the office to make sure that they are able to issue licenses to these groups.

Too late, by then they'll all be indoctrinated

You may as well give in and partake in some gay studies yourself. I don't charge *quite* as much as your school tax...

Yes and I agree this will not work but it is a thread and has interest. People are still fighting as foolish as it may be.
