Farrakhan: ‘We Need to Put the American Flag Down'

And what were the southern states fighting for?

He's gonna say states rights.

I wasn't saying farrakhan spoke for liberals. I'm saying the arguments liberals make against the confederate flag can be made just as easily about the american flag.

If the person making that argument is either a half-wit or intellectually dishonest, then sure.

'The American flag is just as offensive as the Confederate flag.'

This argument strikes me as purely bizarre for a number of reasons. The Confederacy seceded to preserve slavery and while slavery existed in the US and the US government has done terrible things, it was not founded on those ideas, while the Confederacy was. Secondly, it's a matter of common sense when you consider what the two flags are associated with. Outside of a few SJWs, no one in the United States associates the American flag with racism. The confederate flag is for the majority of people, a symbol of racism. You could get into semantics over which government was more racist and debate it for days on end, but the matter stands, that symbolism only matters in terms of what people associate it with, and the Confederate flag is associated with racism by most.

The American flag represented the colonies that fought in the revolution, not slavery.

The confederate flag didn't represent slavery either.

He is insane, just like everyone who has a problem with the Confederate Flag.

He is a frustrated racist whose purpose in life is disappearing. Time for him to retire.

Badda boom badda bing. That pretty much sums up that flags history for the entire twentieth century and beyond.

Ignorance of history is no reason to change it....Oh, and also, that's a wonderful pic of southern democrats proudly showing their ass.

'The force of events moved very quickly upon the election of Lincoln. South Carolina acted first, calling for a convention to SECEDE from the Union. State by state, conventions were held, and the CONFEDERACY was formed.

Within three months of Lincoln's election, seven states had seceded from the Union. Just as Springfield, Illinois celebrated the election of its favorite son to the Presidency on November 7, so did Charleston, South Carolina, which did not cast a single vote for him. It knew that the election meant the formation of a new nation. The Charleston Mercury said, "The tea has been thrown overboard, the revolution of 1860 has been initiated."

The South Secedes [ushistory.org]

It would seem that the reason for session was the election of Lincoln, not that slavery wasn't in some people's agenda for that, but the actual reason was Lincoln....NOT the revision now being pushed by the very group, that back then were among the people calling to preserve slavery to the south....

Ain't it great how dishonest liberals are today?

Does that also sum up the history of the democrat party? Or does the party maybe have other merits BESIDES being opposed to civil rights and proud card carrying Klansmen?

Black loyalists, really? lol

Do you have a link?

Here is a Wikipedia article. They are a part of Canadian and apparently Sierra Leone history as well.

Here is a video about a famous one named Ricahrd Pierpoint:

Farrakhan: I Don't Get Debate Over Confederate Flag, 'We Need to Put the American Flag Down' - Breitbart

the is the first thing I have heard on this issue that makes any sense. The confederate flag stood for the same thing the American flag stood for a few decades prior to the war. It only makes sense that both should be deemed "evil" in this new liberal utopia we live in.

I wrote this somewhere else, but I will repeat it here. I recently lived in a house built in the early 1900's with several swastikas on the foundation and inside the attic. A little digging in it's history and I learned that the German builders who built the house, prior to the rise of the Nazi party, saw the symbol as a sign of good luck. Indeed, throughout much of it's storied history, the Swastika was a positive sign used in cultures from Europe to Asia.

Obviously more recently the symbol was used to represent the Natzi party, and they not only tried to commit genocide, but also plunged the world into war which resulted in the deaths of a lot of people.

If I few a flag with a Swastika on it, even if it didn't have the red background, and wasn't angled at 45 degrees like the Natzi symbol and I claimed that my reason for flying it was purely for the good luck and well-being sentiment it represented for thousands of years prior to the Germans who corrupted it......

Given that most people don't know it's origins, should I expect others to believe that I mean what I say I'm not displaying as support for Natzi Germany, but simply as a good luck symbol and that they should have to ignore the deep seeded more recent meaning it has come to represent?

America has done terrible things in it's history, often in stark contrast to the ideals that it claims to represent, but the reality is that the American flag today still represents these ideals even if it hasn't always, or won't ever fully live up to them.

Come on, now. Everybody knows the civil war wasn't fought over slavery. It was fought over states rights..........

to own slaves.

As to the moron who is the subject of the thread, all I can say is that I never thought I'd see the word "sense" attached to any of his various word vomits.

Ignorance of history is no reason to change it....Oh, and also, that's a wonderful pic of southern democrats proudly showing their ass.
Then stop doing it.

Farrakhan is just a big mouth looking to start trouble. If it isn't an Anti-White rant, it's an Anti-American rant.

Umm, he just got tired of watching Sharpton cleaning up? Wants to get in on that action?

You're right, it represents so much more....

Yeah, let's delete the images from our history books. In fact maybe the Left should have a big book burning party, LIKE THE NAZIS DID!

Doesn't need to be deleted.....just recognize it for what it is.

Nope, someone could get offended, got to burn it.

I don't know if he is crazy, but he is certainly not calling for racial reconciliation.

Almost every southern state that signed a secession document sites slavery as the reason for it's secession. Sorry, you can't rewrite history when it has already been written and documented.

Funny the North never seemed to have problem with Slavery unti the South wanted to secede.

I mean if they were so opposed to Slavery why did Lincoln wait until 1863 to emancipate the slaves ?

Truth be told, the Stars and Stripes flew for over 80 years while Slavery was legal.

Allot longer than the Confederate flag flew.
