Americans have been doing that since the end of the cold war. Unfortunately, they have been able to because they are separated from the scarry stuff by a vast ocean on each side and fairly benign countries at its border. However, as technology advances, the world will become a much smaller place.

Translation, ignore failed USFP that groups like Islamic State extremists have been the beneficiary of! Creating these "crisis" that you warmongers always want to throw our military at is good for business, good for the defense industry, but hard on human life. With a little sound policy in the Middle East, we wouldn't need all your scary fear mongering scenarios.

Yes, you are correct, the US's failed Middle East policy has allowed the likes of ISIS to manifest. But it is not OUR failed police, it is YOUR failed policy. If the military had been listened to and allowed to do their job, the ME would be secure and the people would be electing their own leaders. But since the Anti-war and Isolationists movements have been listened to, all we have done is create vacumes of power which have allowed ISIS to spread. Great job!

I opposed arming the Mujahideen in Afghanistan that morphed into the Taliban so we could return to fight them. I opposed the first gulf war and going into Afghanistan and Iraq to begin with. I opposed supporting the Muslim brotherhood in deference to Mubarak, and removing Gaddafi and weakening Assad. Your naive if you think our military could have created democracy in that region of the world. :lamo. And let's not forget that by consensus, our intelligence agencies said that the invasion and occupation of Iraq caused an increase in global terrorism, and made America less safe, it's YOUR failed policy dude!

Then you are in favor of a USSR controlled middle east. You are in favor of allowing cold war erra dictators to terrorize, and wipe off the face of the earth, their political enemies. You are in favor of leaders who assist terrorist organizations in carrying out their attacks. That is basically what your saying.

I'm not in favor of the Islamic State, you must be. And the US has a long history of toppling democratically elected governments and replacing them with right wing dictatorships. The US is as big a sponsor of terrorism as any.

The only reason the US has a history of toppling "elected" governments is because we beat the USSR in toppling "elected" governments. If the USSR had won the cold war, then the USSR would have a history of toppling "elected" governments. But of course, people like you have completely forgotten the cold war and want to erase it from history so you can re-write the history books to show the US as being the evil empire.

Again, I agree, what occurred during the cold war was horrible. However, it is ignorant to not look at it in the context of the time and to also only blame one side for what occurred. What occurred across the planet during that time was a result of rising superpowers (USSR and USA). Both countries were playing the geopolitical game in hopes they could control enough of the worlds resources in order to bring the other to its knees to prevent a nuclear conflict. In the context of the day, installing a dictatorship in order to maintain political influence over a country was seen as much more humane then risking the outbreak of a 3rd world war. Which would have killed many times more people then the 2nd world war just simply due to the increasing sophistication and destruction capabilities of new weapons. If the USA and USSR could fight over political influence and strangle their enemy without sparking WW3 or a nuclear conflict, this would be in the interest of the entire world. And that is what occurred. While people suffered, and died as a result of this fight over political influence, it saved hundreds of millions of lives.

A sadly predictable falsehood. In 1989 the people of Western Europe were not clamoring to be more like the East. Quite the opposite. After 1989 the newly free nations were eager to join NATO.

In this thread, lefties have dismissed reality, tried to diminish the threat, blamed it on bizarre conspiracies, and when finally cornered it comes to this.

I dont want it to happen, and the way to prevent it from happening is to admit theres a problem and address it. Note that my sentence above precisely shows an effort to avoid admitting its a problem.

The Bush era 2006 NIE in which a consensus amongst our intelligence agencies declared that the invasion and occupation of Iraq caused an increase in global,terrorism and made America less safe, is no god damn conspiracy!!! Here? Now stop ****ing lying, and stop supporting military adventurism that exacerbates the very thing that's got you shaking like a leaf on a tree.

Can you explain how ISIS would have still happened, and made so many gains, with troops still in Iraq, I'm all ears.

And I'm all answers since you still don't understand dates. The Islamic State in Iraq formed in 2006, the same year that the intelligence agencies declared that Bush's invasion and occupation of Iraq caused an increase in global terrorism, And made America less safe. Both of which occurred with 100,000 pairs of boots on the ground!!!!!!!!!!!!!
