House Intel Committee Chair: US Is At ‘The Highest Threat Level We Have Ever Faced

Re: House Intel Committee Chair: US Is At ‘The Highest Threat Level We Have Ever Face

The actions of the US today are a direct result of the actions during the cold war. We are where we are today in the ME because of the Cold War.

Well sure, if using our CIA in 1953 to sabotage the Iranian government to prevent the nationalization of their oil which would have been a benefit to the Iranians instead of Britain, was part of the "Cold War", then I suppose you've a point.

Re: House Intel Committee Chair: US Is At ‘The Highest Threat Level We Have Ever Face

When sharks target innocent civilians to blow them to bits, get back to me.

Does this mean you embrace the 1% doctrine that no matter how small the actual threat, no matter how infrequently in reality the threat materializes, the government should spend oodles of $ and waste the US Constitution going through the motions of protecting people?

Re: House Intel Committee Chair: US Is At ‘The Highest Threat Level We Have Ever Face

Woodrow Wilson was our most racist post-Civil War President and much else besides. That was a very different time and a very different situation.

It doesn't matter if Wilson was a cross dresser. It doesn't matter, and I certainly don't care if he was a racist. I am not a fan of his.

The point is that he and every other person to occupy the White House understood that the public perception must be managed and massaged.

The point is that he hired Edward Bernays into the government for the SOLE purpose of managing "public relations", what we call today PR or spin.

The point is the government officials have a vested interest in managing the public perception and act to achieve that.

If you deny that simple and obvious point, you are being disingenuous.

In a much more refined manner, the government today practices just what Wilson did. It's human nature.

Re: House Intel Committee Chair: US Is At ‘The Highest Threat Level We Have Ever Face

We are at that elevated threat level because as the same intelligence agencies pointed out in a 2006 paper, Bush's policies had caused an increase in global terrorism, and made America less safe, something you like to ignore!

omg

what 6 years after, and you are still blaming Bush?

as Bob Seger wrote "turn the page"

Me? That was a 2006 NIE in which a consensus amongst our intelligence agencies blamed Bush. Have you been ignoring my continual complaints of Obama's military interventions in the ME. Hussein, Mubarak, Gaddafi and Assad all did a better job at containing Islamic extremism then either Bush or Obama. I'm no partisan, I acknowledge the fault of both parties!

None of that changes the fact that the threat is real.

House Intel Committee Chair: US Is At ‘The Highest Threat Level We Have Ever Faced In This Country’

WASHINGTON (CBSDC/AP) — The chairman of the House Intelligence Committee warns that America is dealing with “the highest threat level we have ever faced in this country.” Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., told CBS’ “Face the Nation” on Sunday that the threat is coming from the radicalization of young people and foreign fighters heading to Iraq and Syria to join terror groups.

“They’re very good at communicating through separate avenues where it’s very difficult to track,” Nunes said. “That’s why when you get a young person who is willing to get into these chat rooms, go on the Internet and get radicalized, it’s something we are not only unprepared [for], we are also not used to it in this country.”

You are incorrect, we are at an elevated threat with the very group Obama allowed to come into existence, and then dismissed as the "jv" team. And they are growing the entire time.

And the threats continue...

No, I embrace the doctrine of doing what we can to stop what we can, when we can. There is an awful lot of **** we can't do anything about-this isn't one of those things. We aren't talking about tornado's here-this is a threat we can address. If it does not suit your politics, you can pound sand.

This is the most specific info I have seen on what the threat is-cops, military, public officials all of whom are likely to be in public for the 4th of july weekend. All from the group that Obama said wasn't a threat.

Because admitting a threat exists means you are afraid-lefty ridicule with the underlying implication that it should be ignored.

Im not worried for myself, Im worried for the innocent people who will be needlessly killed.

They were trying to nationalize their oil while under a leader that was sympathetic to the USSR. That is why they were overthrown.

It is convenient that he brings this up shortly after the change to NSA spying rules... and specifically calls out activity of individuals getting into "chat rooms" and getting recruited.

Its a scare tactic to revive the support for their unlawful snooping.. "in the name of safety!!!"

Actually, the govt revealed that the patriot act did not capture anyone or prevent any attacks.

Therefore its ineffective and has rightfully sunset-ted (though some certainly remains).

Obama actually ran against it, then renewed and expanded it. :doh

Has nothing to do with Obama.... everything is about Obama with you...

Im talking about the INTEL CHIEF... who made these statements.... shortly after the snooping ability was "curbed", if only slightly...

Ok, I understand where you might start to believe that its a conspiracy-but where you lose me is when it comes to the fact that some of these terrorists have been caught. Is there any timing that would not make you suspicious?

None really...

I see no reason why the intel chief needs to tell the American public that we are under threat..... seems he is doing the terrorists job for him..

Would you prefer he keep the American people in the dark? Should we not worry our pretty little heads about reality because its too disturbing?

Do you think we elect our govt to conduct the legitimate functions of govt (including national defense) or should we just "trust" them to tell us what they think is best?

Handling our national defense... and telling us things to put the public in fear so that they can justify taking more of our liberties in the name of "safety" are two different things.

It is not a requirement that they give us these "We're under the greatest thREAT EEVVARRRR!!!!" "woogity-boogity" speeches. It is actually in our best interests that they not tell every last detail of how they are investigating the terrorists so that they don't find "alternate" communication methods.

But... thats none of my business......

We are big boys and girls, and the world is really sometimes a dangerous place. I dont see how ignoring facts because some might abuse them (not saying thats the case here) is a wise strategy.

What benefit does providing this knowledge do for the American Public?

And does it outweigh the downside of giving away information on how we track terrorists TO the terrorists?

I think OPSEC procedures should be employed a little tighter around our specific methods of tracking terrorist activity.

You are asking the wrong questions. Why shouldnt our govt, which serves US, provide us with the facts?

Last I checked, catching terrorists does not include giving away all of the methods used to catch them.

Letting the public know why there is increased security in certain areas all around the country.....would be beneficial to the public. Moreover staying proactive with crowd control will help to allow things not to get out of hand, should they do so. Looks like DC and New York said they will have more security and resources than they did last year. The only city that wouldn't tell anybody what they are going to do. Was Los Angeles.

Security intensified as July 4th weekend nears.....

In Washington, D.C., where tens of thousands crowd the National Mall to watch one of the largest firework displays in the country, specially designated police patrols will keep an eye on potential targets such as landmarks, financial institutions, houses of worship, hotels and theaters, police said. Additional plainclothes officers, radiation detection units, bomb-sniffing canines and surveillance aircraft will be deployed.

Los Angeles police declined to provide details of additional security steps being taken, but a spokeswoman, Officer Liliana Preciado, said the department is preparing for any threat. "We do have enough resources available and we will have enough officers out there," Preciado said.

Boston police will also increase the number of officers on duty to provide security and crowd control, said Officer Rachel McGuire, a department spokeswoman. City officials will hold a press conference Friday to elaborate on steps being taken.....snip~

Security officials in New York, Washington ready for July Fourth weekend.....

There is high anxiety in some very high places right now over the potential for terror attacks in this country over the July Fourth holiday weekend. Police and security agencies are watching a confluence of key dates, observances and the growing reach of ISIS that they fear make the climate for attack especially worrisome.

All of it amid heightened fears of homegrown terrorism, inspired by the relentless calls for attacks from ISIS social media, focusing on the 4th of July holiday period and the Muslim holy days of Ramadan, which this year coincide.

In Washington, security will be more visible than usual. Bulletins warn police around the country that ISIS has called for attacks on government employees, law enforcement, sporting events, and other big gatherings. And the FBI is stepping up arrests of people who’ve been under surveillance for months, suspected of plotting attacks here: ten arrests in the past two weeks.....snip~
