NRA executive suggests slain Charleston pastor to blame for gun deaths

Mass murders are increasing.

A quick search online shows.

17 shootings resulting in 116 deaths and 156 injured between 1985 and 1995.
15 shootings resulting in 97 deaths and 108 injured between 1995 and 2005.
35 shootings resulting in 303 deaths and 218 injured between 2005 and 2015 (so far).

US Mass Shootings, 1982-2012: Data From Mother Jones' Investigation | Mother Jones

And from the Washington Post.

A report published by the FBI last year, studying active shooting situations between 2000 and 2013, found that these kinds of incidents were happening more and more recently. The first seven years of the study found an average of 6.4 active shootings per year, while the last seven years of the study found that number jumped up to 16.4 incidents per year.

Another very interesting read including a chart showing far more shootings since 2006 than I found.

Did you really link to mother jones?

Ive already linked in this thread to legitimate sources that mass killings are on the decline.

They simply get more media attention so people feel they are more common. Its an artifact.

Media coverage of these events is increasing.

I dunno, but it isn't because we allow people to defend themselves. Besides, it ain't peaches and cream everywhere else. Can you say "Charlie Hebdo"?

Racial problems, high incarceration rate, poverty levels above OECD averages.
Homicide rate of aprox 15 k per year.
That balances against Charlie now don’t it?
I can come up with more if needed?

Media coverage of these events is increasing.

when Patrick Purdy shot down kids (and created the massacre Josh Sugarmann was praying for) in Stockton, we were just starting to get 24/7 news coverage and internet blogs. when Charles Whitman shot a bunch of people out of the texas tower-no such media.

Whether you like mother jones or not, can you dispute any of the shootings that have taken place that are posted on that site? There is nothing to refute the data provided.

there is evidence to contradict the claim that "mass shootings" or killings are increasing.

Is there? I haven't seen it. That doesn't mean it doesn't exist, but I haven't seen it. The number of dead, the number of shootings seems pretty clear cut to me regardless of the source. Now I don't think you can convince me the shootings listed didnt happen, so the only other option would be to find dozens of mass murders that took place and were covered up.

Or is the evidence you are thinking pointing to overall violent crime rates, or murder rates are down? I recently found that those are true. overall murders are down, but mass shootings are up from what i found.

From your article.

His research has found while there were few such mass public shootings in the U.S. before the 1960s, the numbers have declined since the 1990s. America averages three or four cases a year since the 1980s.

This statement from your article is completely misleading. Completely. There is no data (that I have found) showing any decline in mass shootings. The 3-4 mass shootings per year in the US is probably accurate since the 80's but that is not what we are talking about. During the 80's the US was experiencing less than 2 per year. Since 2010 we are averaging over 4 per year. Down playing it by stating the 3-4 per year does not mean it was less unless during the 80's and 90's there were actually fewer than that.

And are you really going to critisize the source I posted and then reply with the blaze.com? C'mon now.

What is missing from the blaze  and torontosun us actual statistics to support their claim. If you go to motherjones, any biases aside, the crimes are listed. It is detailed on a chart with events you can look into independently.

so what you are really saying is your memory is better for recent shootings than say Huberty at the McDonalds in the 1990s, the Luby's texas massacre, Klebold and Harris in Colorado. and of course what constitutes a "mass shooting" but one thing is clear-gun violence is decreasing in the USA

I guess the real question is-gun violence going down even though more and more guns are in circulation-and the answer is a clear yes. So why would anyone want more gun control if gun violence is decreasing

Gun violence is down. Yes. However mass murders are up. One does not equal the other. You are arguing a point I am not making.

Also I am not stating mass murders are up as way of promoting more gun control. I am stating the number of mass murders are increasing because the number of mass murders is increasing.

mass murders really aren't an issue-its overall crimes of violence. BTW the best way to stop mass murders-shoot the asshole before he can kill more. That is the recommendation of the leading experts on active shooters since an active shooter is essentially the same as a Kamikaze pilot. They already are dead. so even the threat of being impaled anally on a red hot skewer isn't going to deter them. All you can do is whack them as quick as possible. and you probably understand the difference between elastic vs inelastic demand. kamikazes are the least likely to be deterred from getting a gun by laws that make their acquisition more difficult

Racial problems, high incarceration rate, poverty levels above OECD averages.

So what do racial problems have to do with people defending themselves? It seems as though the places with the highest homicide rates have the most severe restrictions on guns--Chicago; Baltimore; Washington, D.C. And I recall the fun control Chicken Littles screaming that by issuing so many concealed-carry permits we'd have Wyatt Earps and Doc Holidays battling against the Clantons at the local Häagen-Dazs over who was to get the last of the black cherry amaretto. Didn't happen.

I am not talking about gun laws. I haven't said anything along those lines. I refuted what someine else posted about mass murders decreasing.

Firstly I dont see you providing data to back your assertions, secondly I dont see you going to his sources to disprove his.

I believe that is because you are incorrect, the data does not match your claim.

This is where you provide evidence, otherwise its just cause you say so, and forgive me but such matters are too important to leave to that.

Its funny, the title tells you who reported the story. I merely linked to the summary because I know lefties need bullet statements. The blaze is not the primary source, the AP is.

The link I provided shows the year, the shooting, the shooters, the number killed and the number injured. It shows it year by year in a nice neat little chart. Your rebuttal, and the rebuttal in the links is nah uh. So please try harder before you reply.

Again I posted a link to the actual mass murders showing them by year to show they are increasing. What more do you want than the actual data?

Cotton might be "insensitive" and a "monster," but he's got a point: Another mass shooting in a "gun free zone."

Blaming the victim. Go figure.

NRA guy blames dead victims for political gain... I'd follow this with "NEWS AT ELEVEN!!!" ....buuuuuut this isn't news. It's too commonplace.
