NRA executive suggests slain Charleston pastor to blame for gun deaths

I guess not. I am pro gun rights, and I'm for concealed carry. I just think it's incredibly tacky and disrespectful to bring a weapon to a place of worship.

tacky beats having your brains blown all over your nice new King James Bible because some asshole figured lots of people think like you and the local church is going to be full of unarmed targets

You should'nt be blasted as a pig because you have an opinion from experience. Who would do that? Men can speak their thoughts about rape. I am a college Professor and in control of my classroom...I don't want guns in the classroom...do I have a safety right to demand that? Right now, I do not teach where guns are allowed...signs are posted and so far...no incidences. I have been teaching in college since 1999. It could easily be said, no incidences no guns...just like the Colorado argument.

Except that almost all mass murders have been committed in places where guns are banned... demonstrating the ineffectiveness of the whole viewpoint.

Namely that this never happens:

Yeah because that's likely to happen. Run the odds.

Again, hire a guard if you're so concerned

You ever hear the story of Jesus and the money changers at the temple?

There are certain activities that are inappropriate in Gods house...bringing weapons would fall in to that

Luke 22:36

We're packing because there is a risk of things like Charleston AME happening in this world, and we don't want our bretheren or selves massacred by some hateful looney.

Yeah because that's likely to happen. Run the odds.

Again, hire a guard if you're so concerned

And an armed guard in the sanctuary is less offensive because.... ?

1) having a gun and not needing one causes you no problems

2) needing a gun and not having one is the mistake hundreds of victims did not live to regret

why should I hire a guard when I am an expert level shooter.

Its almost like criminals and the insane dont follow laws.

:doh

And that, ladies and gentlemen is why I posted this earlier in this thread:

Let me be clear: I don't have a problem with honorable men and women possessing a gun. Never have. Unfortunately, whenever the issue of gun violence comes up the issue somehow gets twisted into these arguments of gun rights -vs- irresponsible gun ownership.

Gosh, I did not know that.

Actually, I'm pretty confident that by many years and many students, I have more knowledge and experience with college students and their environment than anyone else here at DP. This is what I mean about your leaping to conclusions.

Because I posted "My decision to own a gun affects only me...," you assumed that I am a gun owner, one you found disturbing because I'm a blowhard paranoid. I don't own a gun. Now you're going to spout inane generalizations about macho frat daddies and how gun owners come in all shapes and sizes because you've had a couple of nurse gigs on a college campus? Spare me. Oh, and don't patronizingly call me "hon" either.

Please. Just don't.

Did I call you hon? I don't believe I did. Actually I ignored you in this thread until the point I could not stop myself from responding. From now on, I won't respond to you at all...I hope you do the same. Just another nasty older woman on a forum. That is too bad.

do you recognize that these two assertions are at odds with each other? That the latter, if obeyed, prevents the former?

yes they are - and i will accept that if it results in saving lives.

Nobody cares how good of a shooter you are, cowboy. Church is a holy place. The issue is one of being respectful of the holiness of that place

Ok now you've truly baffled me. You'll accept that barring guns from certain places means there will be nobody armed to stop the bad guy, or you'll accept the opposite?

Can't do both without violating causality and sending the entire Universe down a wormhole, so answer carefully. :D

I'm trying to keep it holy by not letting some hater spill the blood of the innocent there.

I know, and for every point in a argument for each side, there is always a rebuttal that makes sense. Surely you admit, we are seeing more problems like this...the root being violence and unfortunately, guns are used in most of them. This is such a complex problem with so many different elements factored in. We have to react to it without adding more to the problem...I think to remain civilized. I bought my gun and the only thing I had to do was pass a background check and answer 2 questions regarding mental illness diagnoses. 10 minutes later we walked with it...didn't even know how to load it or clean it. I took it a step further and attended the gun safety classes, both of them before I hit the range. This was voluntary in my State...not mandated. I think we should enforce gun safety classes to purchase a gun. There are other problems besides Mass shootings, such as accidents in the home involving children. I have had this same conversation with many LE neighbors and they acknowledge there are problems and have great solutions. Why can't our elected politicians do the same? We can't see these numbers increase and do nothing about it but argue...we are a much better nation than what we are showing the world right now.

This sort of silliness is why I have a very dim view of organized religion. and its idiotic to assume armed criminals are actually going to give a rat's ass about your silly views about churches. we certainly know I am right given what happened in South Carolina.

He apparently is one of those who believes gun free signs keep bad guys out. its unbelievable silliness

There are literally several million church services a week, and this is the only church shooting I can ever recall. So the odds of getting shot in church is literally lottery odds.

But you seem to think you need to be packing lol

No, you called Goshin “hon,” so I wanted to give you the heads-up. I despise that kind of patronizing nearly as much as I hold in contempt catty little girls pretending to be women. Good work, though, in reinforcing a stereotype.

well your memory is faulty or you haven't actually paid attention another poster put up a list of hundreds of attacks in churches. one of the most well known was in colorado where an armed off duty security guard there purely for services took out a mass shooter.

What would Jesus do?

Whup some ass probably, like he did on them moneychangers. :D

You seriously think Jesus wants me to sit there and let innocents be slaughtered, rather than fire a gun in a church?

He'd be ashamed if I had the means and declined to use it.

If you're young or have a short memory, that's not my problem. There's been shootings and hate crime attacks in a good many churches over the past 50 years. Quite a good many.

Expect that to stay as bad or get worse... until they start getting shot in the act before racking up a MSNBC-worthy body count...

Yes..for thousands of dollars..some in mint condition, the price of a small car!! Can you purchase a 2015 model?

BTW, it is impossible to purchase a machine gun now

Your words, but apparently it is possible. As for years of manufacture I addressed that.
