WASHINGTON — The F.B.I. and Justice Department prosecutors are investigating front-office officials for the St. Louis Cardinals, one of the most successful teams in baseball over the past two decades, for hacking into the internal networks of a rival team to steal closely guarded information about player personnel.Investigators have uncovered evidence that Cardinals officials broke into a network of theHouston Astros that housed special databases the team had built, according to law enforcement officials. Internal discussions about trades, proprietary statistics and scouting reports were compromised, the officials said.
The officials did not say which employees were the focus of the investigation or whether the team’s highest-ranking officials were aware of the hacking or authorized it. The investigation is being led by the F.B.I.’s Houston field office and has progressed to the point that subpoenas have been served on the Cardinals and Major League Baseball for electronic correspondence.

Woahh.... This is gonna be a big story in the news world in the next coming months/weeks. Under investigation for hacking into another organizations database.

Wow, move over cheatriots.

That's weird. Was there a trade in the works? That's the only reason I can think of for an NL team to pull that with an AL team.

Nooooooooooo! One of the best teams in the league and they have to go and do something stupid like this???

What a mess this will become if it turns out to be true.

Will be interesting to see what the MLB does if it turns out to be true.

John Mozeliak is considered one of the best GM's in the game

And the organization has been the model of consistency for 25+ years

After reading the article, it sounds like someone was really pissed at the guy who left to take the Astro's job

Then he took a number of guys with him.....

No excuse guys!

This is NOT how the model franchise reacts to crap like that....

It will be interesting to see if other teams make some sort of statement (hitting players, etc.) when they play the Cardinals. Not like it's the players' fault, though...

I heard that on the news and for the life of me, I can't figure out what possible reason they would do this. Anyone?

IMO, if the allegations are proved, the individuals responsible should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law as would be the case with other hackers. Moreover, the Cardinals should be barred from post-season play for a fixed period of time and/or subjected to a substantial fine to deter others from cheating in similar fashion in the future.

Hard to tell what will happen without the report, but a minimum is probably a big fine, loss of draft picks, and suspensions of personnel from the League.
