Rachel Dolezal resigns as NAACP leader amid racial identity controversy

'A Chosen Exile': Black People Passing In White America : Code Switch : NPR

For a black person to pass as white, their history has to be erased. This includes all family ties. For them to be outed after they pass, would mean serious legal and social problems.

Dolezal has tried to erase her family while creating a fictional one. Now she even says, ""I haven't had a DNA test. There's been no biological proof that Larry and Ruthanne are my biological parents. ...I'm not necessarily saying that I can prove they're not. But I don't know that I can actually prove they are. I mean, the birth certificate is issued a month and a half after I'm born. And certainly there were no medical witnesses to my birth."

And if she has falsified legal documents, and if she has made false hate-crime reports to the police, I hope she finds herself with serious legal problems.

It's too late to help her with her little social problem here; she's very much hoist by her own petard.

Someone really needs to do her a favor and tell her to shut up. She's just making a bad situation for herself only worse, seriously. Hire a PR firm and hide for a while until something else comes up on the news. Pretend you're Josh Duggar.

Bad situation? Huh? She's being treated like the most interesting person in the country right now. She stands to make millions off of this, why on earth would she hire a PF firm to hide in the sand???

Or cut the hair and be a Michael Jackon impersonator.

Nope. American black. Both her parents were black as well.

There's a long history of American blacks doing everything they can to be a "white" in appearance as possible. She's the product of that.

Too bad they just didn't focus on being American.

Too bad they just didn't focus on being American.

Well, we know that throughout history, America has focused on making blacks part of America.

I only dropped into this thread because I am wondering why this is a story that is getting so much headlines. What and how in the holy hell does this crap matter at all? At best it should have passed by in the notables "news of the weird" for a day. Why is this crap all over the news and radio and whatnot. WHO REALLY GIVES A **** AND WHY?

Please let this pointless and unbelievably stupid story die America.

Her fifteen minutes expired long ago.

There are already at least two images of Dolezal's head superimposed on Caitlyn Jenner's in the Vanity Fair cover shot.

"There is a wide consensus that the racial categories that are common in everyday usage are socially constructed, and that racial groups cannot be biologically defined.[20][21][22][23][24][25]....Nonetheless, some scholars argue that racial categories obviously correlate with biological traits (e.g. phenotype) to some degree, and that certain genetic markers have varying frequencies among human populations, some of which correspond more or less to traditional racial groupings. For this reason, there is no current consensus about whether racial categories can be considered to have significance for understanding human genetic variation.[26]

When people define and talk about a particular conception of race, they create a social reality through which social categorization is achieved.[27] In this sense, races are said to be social constructs.[28] These constructs develop within various legal, economic, and sociopolitical contexts, and may be the effect, rather than the cause, of major social situations.[29] While race is understood to be a social construct by many, most scholars agree that race has real material effects in the lives of people through institutionalized practices of preference and discrimination.

So what that is saying is she is brat crap crazy. I agree.

From the Seattle CBS affiliate:

Dolezal’s statement reads, “While challenging the construct of race is at the core of evolving human consciousness, we can NOT afford to lose sight of the five Game Changers (Criminal Justice & Public Safety, Health & Healthcare, Education, Economic Sustainability, and Voting Rights & Political Representation) that affect millions, often with a life or death outcome. The movement is larger than a moment in time or a single person’s story, and I hope that everyone offers their robust support of the Journey for Justice campaign that the NAACP launches today!

“It is with complete allegiance to the cause of racial and social justice and the NAACP that I step aside from the Presidency and pass the baton to my Vice President, Naima Quarles-Burnley. It is my hope that by securing a beautiful office for the organization in the heart of downtown, bringing the local branch into financial compliance, catalyzing committees to do strategic work in the five Game Changer issues, launching community forums, putting the membership on a fast climb, and helping many individuals find the legal, financial and practical support needed to fight race-based discrimination, I have positioned the Spokane NAACP to buttress this transition.” Rachel Dolezal Resigns As NAACP Leader Amid Controversy « CBS Seattle

Gobbledegook which is often done when there is no/can't give an answer. What is brought to the fore are the issues of integrity and honesty I believe.

It doesn't even sound coherent. It is bad when people that wander around all the little animals in the woods make more sense than this.

Just pointing out that she is not the first person to choose to identify as black, although Mezzrow and Otis never represented themselves as born that way.

So she isn't the only crazy person on the earth, right?

So she isn't the only crazy person on the earth, right?

Far from it.
God is great, beer is good, and people are crazy.

From the NY Post:

Rachel Dolezal removed from local police commission

SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane City Council has voted to remove Rachel Dolezal, the former Spokane NAACP president, from the city’s volunteer police ombudsman commission.

The 6-0 vote came Thursday afternoon, KREM-TV reported.

On Wednesday, Mayor David Condon and Spokane Council President Ben Stuckart called for Dolezal and two others to step down from the five-member commission after an independent investigation found the three commissioners acted improperly and violated government rules.

The evidence and interviews confirmed workplace harassment allegations and “a pattern of misconduct” by Dolezal, the chairwoman, and two other commissioners, the report said. The council accepted the resignation of one of those commissioners and voted to give the other more time to respond. Rachel Dolezal removed from local police commission | New York Post
