Russia and China broke into Snowden files to identify western spies, says MI6

Downing Street believes that Russian and Chinese intelligence agencies have used documents from whistleblower Edward Snowden to identify British and US secret agents, according to a report in the Sunday Times.

The newspaper says MI6, Britain’s Secret Intelligence Service, has withdrawn agents from overseas operations because Russian security services had broken into encrypted files held by American computer analyst Snowden.

That does not really surprise me.

This person is not a hero.

I strongly agree. Moreover, I continue to suspect that he gave his files to those countries in exchange for protection. Right now, because Snowden is still in Russia, a thorough investigation is precluded.

Obama ran in 2008 on increased whistleblower protections (amongst other things). He has in fact prosecuted more then any of his predecessors. While this story is problematic, had Snowden had Obama assurances, he could have revealed the wrong doing by the NSA domestically, served that useful purpose, and he and the material he was holding would have been able to remain here.

Don't be silly. Nothing that Saint Edward of Snowden dumped into the laps of foreign countries has any effect on US personnel or safety. His supporters seem to be incapable of grappling with the implications (and some would argue initial intent) of his actions.

He is.

And people should continue to **** **** up until the government looks at the constitution and says "maybe we should follow it."

Snowden didn't do so much as attempt to act as a whistleblower. If he had wished to do as you claimed, he could have simply publicly stated the expanse and nature of the metadata collection, rather than dumping every document (many of them entirely irrelevant to domestic surveillance) he could get his hands on into the lap of foreign actors and the general public.

Obama is prosecuting whistleblowers beyond the pace of his predecessors, though candidate Obama promised otherwise. While I wish he could have found an alternative, he couldn't have done as you suggested.

This person is not a hero.

Neither is MI6, or the CIA. I have never known either agency to be truthful. Lots of unnamed sources in that article. It's more likely that China hacked British and U.S. Networks and they are covering their arses.

Irrelevant to whether or not Snowden is, which he is not.

If you think the agencies are not, start the thread.

I do not need to respond to thew whole quote. :doh

My doing it to what you said was applicable. You doing it wasn't. D'oh! :doh

You don't NEED to but you should considering the fact that it was a rather vital piece of information in regards to my opinion towards Edward Snowden and what Americans should be doing in the future.

Also, false mine is applicable. D'oh! :doh :doh

No, it wasn't applicable as he isn't a hero.

Wrong.

You do not really believe that the information is still uncompromised, do you? And you certainly do not believe that the information was trivial and that Snowden did not understand that he was doing inordinate damage or at least risking such damage?

Very relevant. Snowden can be fall guy for a long time to come, blame all security failures on him. As seen in this thread already, plenty will accept it.

No, it wasn't applicable as he isn't a hero.

D'oh! :doh
Wrong.

It was applicable because it was all related to my opinion. Him not being a hero is your opinion and him being a hero is my opinion.

:doh :doh :doh :doh

I see Snowden's intentions as nobel but his methodology traitorous.

Gotta do what you can for the restoration of liberty and the exposing of typical government bull****.

He gave us tangible evidence of something the Americans had never dealt with before. The government is traitorous.

:lamo
Still irrelevant.
Your opinion does not matter to the letter of the law or the damage he did.
He is not a hero.

(see above)
No it isn't relevant.

He is not a hero.

So you're not a hero if you do something illegal?

I ****ing hate legalists, they go against everything America is all about.
