Pentagon 'lily pad' strategy could up troops in Iraq - CNNPolitics.com
It's just about time. I hope those military bases will help to push back ISIS. It seems like ISIS forces are currently retreating from Iraq and that military aid will help Iraqi government to clean the country from jihadists. But will it stop terrorist groups from emerging in future? I highly doubt it. Different muslim tribes in Iraq can't cope together without a strong central authority. They probably need another Saddam Hussein who could keep militant jihadists under his control.

We have seen what the Iraqi people are made of.....they turned and ran the first serious fight they got into. If they won't fight ISIS, for their own freedom, why should we do it for them?

Makes me glad my SiL is in S. Korea. Sadly enough.

I love how we're now--apparently--sending more people to train the Iraqis.
I guess the previous decade-plus of training didn't get the job done.
I'm certain the Iraqis are just slow learners and 6 more months will do the trick.

Isn't U. S. Army and Marine boot camp just a few months to make them trained killers?
I wonder what it will take to motivate the average Iraqi to fight for his country?

Dempsey says we will send in the Hubs. Hubs vs JV.....winner gets the lillypad, in Iraq.

bring them all home now.

I say we withdraw every single person from the mid-east and let them sort it all out themselves.

I've been thinking this for awhile. How about we pull all non middle east personal (all countries) out, seal the borders, and ring a big bell and let them have at it. If any non combatants reach the border let them out and put them in refugee camps until it's settled. Let this go on until either someone wins or they decide "Screw it, you take this side and we'll take this side". Let them draw their own borders.

I believe strongly in isolationism and believe that we should not have any troops or military personal outside US soil but I also understand that my view is considered very unpopular among most and generally discarded at face value. But then again I do not believe we would have many of the messes that we do now if most people felt as I do about many things. What never ceases to amaze me however is how so many people want to continue doing much of the same and truly expect a different outcome.

How about we pull our troops out of EVERY country (where they accomplish NOTHING for us) and put them to building and manning a double fence, (rifle towers every 1/4 mile) on our Mex border, where they'd do some GOOD? Then, once the fence is manned, start publicly horsewhipping everyone caught hiring an illegal. In a month, there will be 10 million less illegals here!

If the Iraq Military is too scared of ISIS, why should the USA be the World's police??, dumb move..:toilet:,

We need to keep our money in this country and rebuild our sorry infraustructure , and healthcare..

Im ****ing tired of endless unwinnable wars that drag on forever with not a damn thing to gain..

we should have figured that out after we invaded iraq in 03,when the iraqi army had mass desertion, and the only real resistance we had was from the republican guard.

Man, neocons must LOVE ISIS...it gives them the perfect excuse to get back into Iraq.

Really, it's just another weapons scheme. First we were funneling ISIS weapons from Libya, and now were supplying them through the Iraqis. It's why we don't give the Kurds weapons. They'd actually use 'em.

Mornin HB. :2wave: To top it off some official that can't be named in Team BO. Said now rather than training Sunni Iraqis that were coming from the Central government. That we would work with the Sheiks of the Sunni Tribes.

We can't trust those from the central government. Let alone those being sent in from Sunni Tribes. What a mistake that is.....whole tribes all affiliated with ISIS would send in their people.

This is whole strategy is major screw up. 6 months ago the Iraqis were going to take back Mosul. Do you know how difficult that is going to be now?

The Iraqis can't take it back.....so who is going to do it? Whoever goes in now after all this time.....all the prep work given to ISIS. Its going to be a walking booby trap mess.

The only hope is to cut Mosul off, and I don't think they have enough of anything to do that. Whatever strategy Obama has, and I seriously don't think he knows what it is, looks like it will collapse before he gets out of office. I don't think he can dither around with this for another year and a half and hand it off. Things are deteriorating to quickly.

According those that report Military and Intel. They don't think this shows BO has changed any strategy. 450 aren't enough unless they going to do the fighting and start at point A....then work they way thru the Alphabet.

Yeah. Obama can't change what he doesn't have. His strategy is to get out of office without having committed any combat troops - doesn't have anything to do with anything military in nature.

ISIS offers freedom
US offer freedom

ISIS act according to Quran
US act according to big corporations' interests

I don't think Iraqi people want to fight ISIS.

ISIS don't offer freedom.....Not even on their best day. Where did you get this notion from?

Where in the Quran does it say they can behead people?

The difference between remaining in Korea, Taiwan and Japan among others is we will ultimately be overrun in Iraq by any number of tribes, radical Muslim groups or Iran perhaps. The whole thing stinks as we cannot stop supporting people that refuse to fight their own battles. Add up the American death toll of Viet Nam and the Middle East and ask how many more???
