Vandals destroy California dam

http://www.weather.com/science/environment/news/california-dam-vandals-drought-east-bay

****ing morons... There happens to be a drought in California you know...

Find em, try em, and lock their inferior asses up for the rest of their lives.

If they're caught, the vandals behind the deflated dam could face thousands in fine and jailtime for destruction of public property
.

As if losers like that could pay a fine, sure. They'll be locked up for a short time, costing taxpayers even more money, then released to go and vandalize something else. Time to bring back the chain gangs.

I'm surprised this is being called vandalism and not terrorism.

Wow - how did they do it?

TNT?

These guys deserve an extremely harsh sentence, IMO.

And lets just hope this wan't subterfuge for profit ....

(because it seems so senseless & counter-societal)

Find them. Prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law.

Then build a damn dam that is not so easily screwed with.

So California built an inflatable dam that could be destroyed by a pocket knife?

Good Lord.

It was doing a dam good job too. California is full of idiots but I can't blame this one on the state.

I strongly suspect it was the cheapest way to go.

Sometimes you pay in the beginning - sometimes you pay as you go - sometimes you pay in the end. But you always pay one way or another.

It was inflatable?

I (originally) watched the video - but skipped the text.

Not too smart an idea, but still ....

If you want a temporary dam that doesn't cost a bundle of money, it makes sense.

It would be terrorism if there was a political motive behind the destruction. It's possible there is such a motive, but sounds more like a Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure kind of thing.

californa is too big for its own water supply.

regardless of whether or not it needs to leech off others water to survive, destroying water supplies is no less than terrorist.we cannot claim such as no one knows the motive, but still terrible to destroy a water supply, especially when a state is on water rations and restrictions.

Which is why the United States Patriot Act, and the 'terrorism' statutes that fall out of it, are so potentially dangerous to Americans.

We run the risk of many otherwise criminal or misdemeanor acts being classified as 'terrorist acts', thereby usurping our due process & other constitutional rights.

Have we not learned from the War on Drugs?

This was an act of extra-ordinary destructiveness given California's water situation. Even if it's an act born of stupidity, the perpetrators deserve to have the book thrown at them for this.

Fair points. Which means the people and those they elect have to be vigilant about the way the laws are applied. It doesn't mean the laws have to be abandoned.
