Ohio House bill would ban abortions spurred by diagnosis of Down syndrome

You place a resource driven, what they can produce value to each person.
Do you have any friends with sick children, or perhaps people with a physical or mental disability, and your philosophy would subject them to a cull.

Do you not understand the difference between aborting a baby with a birth defect and killing people that exist in the world?

Perhaps I am mixing your posts up with norther's. And yes I do.
But to abort is not your decision, it is the woman's to make.
But would you favor aborting all with known defects such as Downs, mental retardation, major physical disabilities?

Why would anybody be against aborting a baby with a life altering condition which would guarantee that person would never be a productive member of society?

What a disgusting thing to say.

Let's discuss your contributions to society... I'm betting they wouldn't spare you the axe in your blood soaked utopia.

So now we judge a person's right to live based upon whether or not they are productive members of society?

Fetus is now a person?

How about an embryo?

We all know about the average proud liberal's lack of respect for human life, but that is not the subject of this thread.

You have no idea what you are talking about.

It's a worthwhile question.

It is a direct reflection about what you believe about those people once they are born.

We have no qualms feeling offended if it was said about racial minorities or homosexuals specifically.

You have no idea what you are talking about.

Not willing to offer yourself up for final judgement but want to do it for other people? Typical gutless Malthusian bull****

This seems completely unenforceable. And I don't get the rationale. So it would be illegal to abort a fetus that has Down's syndrome but it would be legal to abort a fetus that is otherwise healthy? I don't get the logic to that at all.

It's about putting any restriction they possibly can on abortion.

It serves as a clamp against back door eugenics.

That being said, it introduces several problematic power struggles and is, as you would say, impossible to enforce.

Reducing negative perceptions of disability, getting accurate information to would-be parents, and establishing multi-agency cooperation to better inform doctors on available resources would do much to keep choice open while not pursuing a disproportionate emphasis on upholding stereotypes of the disabled.

There is no logic when it comes to religion.

if someone has the means to successfully raise such a child, fine. If the parents do not, why should society be saddled with the millions of HC costs such a child is going to impose on the tax payers when that money could be used for far better uses

when that money could be used for far better uses

I don't disagree with what you've said, but just out of curiosity I would like to know what better uses you had in mind.

treating soldiers injured in battle would be a better use of our medical resources.

Because human life is precious. At least to some of us. I would have never pegged you as a pro-abortionist.

Why? Why is the treatment of soldiers more important than the treatment of any fellow human being? I have a feeling many of those wounded warriors would disagree with you.

I am a hard core libertarian who finds restrictions of human freedom based on silly myths to be abhorrent

1) if "God" is against abortions-he will deal with abortionists in his realm not yours

2) I don't believe all human life is precious. Some is, some is not.

3) society is not helped in any way, shape or form, to force women who do not want to give birth to do so.

I don't consider a lump of cells to be a "fellow human being". Now I oppose "partial birth abortion" except in the most extreme cases such as the mother will die. However, that possibility is about as rare as being gored to death by a White Rhino

This thread is about aborting humans with Down Syndrome. This condition is not detectable when the developmental stage is "a lump of cells".

It appears you put the "lib" in "libertarian".

true, I oppose this stupid law. If you can abort a fetus because you don't like wearing maternity clothes or because you are now upset the guy who pronged you won't marry you, then a far better reason-a child that will be profoundly handicapped-should be legal as well

CB, Morning
I am Pro Abortion as the women’s decision to make up to a point.
I agree with the prohibition on late term abortions, approx at the 22 week mark as the child is viable.
Only exception would be if the mother’s life was at risk, and that would be hers to make, and hers to live or die with.
In 76 my girlfriend became pregnant. I offered the usual things a man does, but it was hers to make.
My daughter or son would be turning 39 late this year. It seems to be a constant on my mind.

I am sorry to hear that. It is a loss that affects us. That seems to be lost in the debate. :(
