That's a bummer. RIP Mr. Nash.

'Beautiful Mind' mathematician John Nash killed - BBC News

US mathematician John Nash, whose life story was turned into the Oscar-winning film A Beautiful Mind, has died in a car crash, local media has reported. Nash, 86, and his wife Alicia were both killed when their taxi crashed in New Jersey, the reports said. The mathematician is renowned for his work in game theory, winning the Nobel Prize for Economics in 1994. His breakthroughs in maths - and his struggles with schizophrenia - were the focus of the film.

Extraordinary intellect and a mostly sad life. There was a bit of controversy in awarding him the Nobel Prize because some questioned giving it to a man who suffered from mental illness. At least the Nobel committee got past that. How ridiculous to even consider that.

RIP.

Here is the obituary: John Nash Obituary - St. Paul, MN | Pioneer Press

As a schizophrenic myself (a fully recovered one, that is - though, it took me over 20 years to recover), I am saddened at this humungous loss for the "mental health movement." It's impossible to replace someone like John Nash - he was very important as far as getting the message out and educating people as to what schizophrenia is really like. That is the only goal of the movement I speak of - words can't describe how much he'll be missed (by me and others like me). RIP

I plan to attend John Nash's funeral, at the recommendation of my psychiatrist, so will keep you guys posted. Thanks for reading.

This was sad news.

RIP, Mr. and Mrs. Nash

Sad news. But I'm glad he was able to live a long and, hopefully, fulfilling life in spite of his illness.

His candor about his mental illness was courageous.

I'm more amazed by his intellect rather than his fight for his illness.
