Warren Buffett: $15 minimum wage will hurt the working class

Re: Warren Buffett Don't raise the minimum wage

Far more people, regardless of affluence are using the public school system than not.

Woop de mother ****ing dog doo. Britney Spears has sold more records than the Beatles. "Far more people blah blah blah" is not a valid argument...its not even a good argument.

The fact of the matter is unless you have something showing how private schools are actually leading the nation in any educational standards, all you have is hearsay and nothing concrete. Since we've already shown that your claim is nothing more than personal opinion, you'll have to do better than just expressing your experience on the subject and stating it as fact.

Re: Warren Buffett Don't raise the minimum wage

there's a reward for the entire country as well. we all benefit from a deep intellectual pool, and putting a paywall in front of it is stupid policy.

Yea, the milk should have to pay for the education for the cream to make their 6-7 figure salaries. Thats fair.

Heres a radical idea...how about everyone pays their own way through? If YOUR education....YOU should pay for it.

Re: Warren Buffett Don't raise the minimum wage

because their theories work better in a vacuum.

Bull**** in a vacuum would just freeze, that doesn't work at all!

It is just one example. The year my son graduated HS, 20% of his class scored 800 on the math portion of the SAT.

Re: Warren Buffett Don't raise the minimum wage

Why is devaluing higher education bad?

Was it bad to provide near-universal access to water? Even though it devalued water? We no longer have to hike 5 miles to the well for it. It's no longer as valuable as it once was. So what? We're better off for it.

I don't understand why having everyone receive a better education is bad for the country. Sure, if everyone has it it's no longer special, but what does having a subset of our population feeling special achieve? A better educated populace is better. Full stop.

do you understand what happens when scarcity is removed from a labor market?

Re: Warren Buffett Don't raise the minimum wage

those on the right often have an issue with jealousy. They simply don't want everyone to have what they have. An education, a decent wage, health insurance...you name it.

not really.. .some of us simply understand the value of skill sets and understand how scarcity affects labor markets.

set minimum wage at 100 bucks an hour and give them free PHD's for all I care ...... just be prepared to reap what is sown. (i'll be dead and gone, so I won't have to deal with the aftermath.)

6-7 figure salaries wouldn't exist without some form of scarcity.... which i think most of these so-called"liberals" see as a benefit.... it fits their belief in forced mediocrity to a T.

ok. make education prohibitively expensive, and then conservatives can pay for welfare instead and bitch about it on internet message boards.

or we could educate the kids so that they don't need welfare, and conservatives could still bitch about that.

i prefer the latter.

there's a whole world in between basically barring education for everyone and providing it for everyone free of cost.

i'm arguing for debt free access to post secondary education and / or job training.

Re: Warren Buffett Don't raise the minimum wage

what is "debt free access"?... is that your way of saying free college?

that's my way of saying that everyone should have the opportunity to graduate from college without debt, like when they graduate from high school. i think that the paywall should be removed.

so... free... that's what I figured you were saying.

When will you liberals figure out that nothing is free?

Re: Warren Buffett Don't raise the minimum wage

i was saying debt free access. but free? sure, why not. better than spending the money on endless war.

there's only one way to guarantee something is "debt free"... that's to remove the costs from the payer.... make it "free"

why on earth would you want to remove value from higher education?...

I can understand decreasing the costs of higher education , but removing it's value entirely is pretty stupid, economically speaking.

helping kids to avoid significant debt is not devaluing education. it is encouraging education.

like I said... make it free...mandate everyone go to college... hand out Free PHDs' for all i care... just be prepared to reap what you sow when it comes to the economy.

there's a lot that can be done to decrease the costs of a higher education without removing it's value entirely....that's where the efforts should be made.
you'll probably find wide agreement on many issues geared towards reasonable ends... but i'd drop the whole "free college" thing.... it's nonstarter for some very good reasons.

the pie in the sky bull**** about free college and high minimum wages belongs in the heads of fringe ideologues where it can be properly ignored.

Re: Warren Buffett Don't raise the minimum wage

Yes. Simple solution. Stop treating higher education as a labor market. The value of higher education is not the money you put into it. It is the education you get from it.

Free PhDs would only be free in the monetary cost to attain them, not in the ability needed to attain them.

i didn't argue for a high minimum wage. i argued for debt free access to college.

Let me guess. You have a college education, right?

If you don't know what this means, you shouldn't be allowed to discuss this topic...hell, you shouldn't even be allowed to vote.

Re: Warren Buffett Don't raise the minimum wage

of course i do.... without one, I probably wouldn't understand why making it free to the students isn't a policy we should be chasing after.

i didn't argue for a high minimum wage. i argued for debt free access to college.

I'm still confused over what you mean by "debt free access"....is there another meaning to this beyond "free"?... if so, please elaborate.
