Warren Buffett: $15 minimum wage will hurt the working class

Re: Warren Buffett Don't raise the minimum wage

I said my opposition is to your belief others should pay for what you want

you claim that you benefiting from taking money from others is better for society

I couldn't care less. I tire of the mindset that demands others pay for what you want

and I doubt you can fashion an argument that taxing each stock transaction 50c on every 100 dollars won't hurt investors-some of whom aren't all that rich

I know you do. I'm asking you to back up a earlier statement on how its gonna cause economic damage.

Re: Warren Buffett Don't raise the minimum wage

You were defending the public education system that produced you..... with poorly communicated statements. You don't see the irony in that.

Look, I'm a product of public education. I'm not knocking public funding for education, when carried out in the right way. There also happens to be a strong correlation between increases in federal spending and college tuition. Even the NY Times ran a piece outlining this uncomfortable and unfortunate fact.

.... But, you have to admit, there is a certain poetic irony in what just happened.

Please, share a few.

Again, if you are going to back up your proof of how public education failed me you are going to have to back it up more than what one states on an internet message board. If that is your standard of exemplifying the success rate of public education, then your standards are pretty damn low.

Re: Warren Buffett Don't raise the minimum wage

Then look at ours that guarantees 12 years of free public school and then free grants for college that people waste with worthless degrees or simply dropping out.

Maybe we should let those countries run our education system and keep our corrupt as HELL government out of it.

As a side note nothing is really FREE. You are paying for it whether you realize it or not. That is something that progressives/socialists usually cannot compute. Progressives truly are a scourge to this nation.

People dropping out of high school is a reason of why we shouldn't make public university free? Why? If they didnt pass high school, or dropped out are they somehow just gonna skip the whole Diploma/GED requirement?

Re: Warren Buffett Don't raise the minimum wage

We already have the government in control of 12 years of failed public education.

I laugh so hard when people say this. Most likely they are also products of public schooling and are practically calling themselves stupid. If not, then he is calling most everyone in here stupid.

You just made a proud statement glorifying public education (subsidized with public funding) that included a pretty obvious and simple error - an error that you failed to proofread. I'm just sayin'....

If the masses arent taking 12 years of free school seriously, what makes you think they will take year 13-16 seriously? Art majors? Womens studies? Seriously? We want to be paying for this BS???

Nah, I say if you want to go to college pay it on your own dime. No more grants, DEFINITELY not make it "free". You keep PRETENDING its free....nothing is free. Someone always has to pay your way through.

I went to private school. They actually make you think as opposed to memorize BS so you pass some standardized test. Rich people go to schools to learn how to think, poor people go to schools to learn how to memorize.

Holy generalizations for $1000, Alex.

There is a reason that rich people dont send their kids to public schools....and that is because when you go to a public school you dont really get an education....you get something to do for 8 hours a day, thats about it.

So then I will ask, what is your point? Students drop out of school..... So?

So, where do we cut that line of thought off? Privatize all school? Why do you seem to want to cut it off at college? Or are you one who thinks we shouldnt have public education period?

I went to private school.
Not to butt in here, but you doing something and someone else making a different proposal to your experience is not a valid point.....

well he just came out and made the same statement that other people have already acknowledged.
a $15 minimum wage will hurt middle income families.

His idea is to expand the EIC.

I don't know the details of the $15 an hour minimum wage in LA, but if they are going from $7ish to $15 an hour in one drop, I think that is a mistake. The market when taken as a whole does not move in unison. It is slow to change and gaps can create significant disruptions and can have serious unintended consequences. It will be a shame if that's the case and the MW at $15 fails, because I fear it will be judged as a failure based on the amount not how it was implemented.

If they are phasing it in, then good, it will be really interesting to watch the experiment run it's course.

Schools should be controlled and funded locally. No federal money, no federal interference, get rid of the Department of Education. Schools will improve when people actually have skin in the game.

Not to butt in here, but you doing something and someone else making a different proposal to your experience is not a valid point.....

Why not? Youre sitting here defending public, federal run schools that took over the best school system in the industrialized world and turned it into the 30th ranked school system in the industrialized world after literally spending trillions of dollars. I went to a school that got ZERO federal funding and was taken care of locally and I thrived while the school profited. Win win.

No you havent

Yea. That would go over great, especially in a state like mine, KS.

Yea! It was the big bad goooverments fault! You really want to stick to this talking point?

So all of a sudden he has cred with you because he finally says one thing you agree with?

So which is it?

Re: Warren Buffett Don't raise the minimum wage

Its not their fault...its the governments fault for not giving them better choices...or just getting the hell out of the way. Most societal problems can be traced back to the federal government...a federal government that you support the expansion of.

Here Buffet is correct. So is Paul Ryan, who has called not only for expanding the EIC, but for making it payable as part of a monthly stipend, so that you are increasing low-income Americans monthly take-home pay with it, vice simply providing them with a once-a-year lump-sum.

Both parties support the expansion of federal government. Until Americans quit calling themselves smart and actually act smart, we can expect the status quo of an ever expanding government!

George W. Bush rode into Washington almost eight years ago astride the horse of smaller government. He will leave it this winter having overseen the biggest federal budget expansion since Franklin Delano Roosevelt seven decades ago.

Re: Warren Buffett Don't raise the minimum wage

No, it would cause a disruption all the way up the chain. For example, what happens to the guy earning $14.95? Does he get a nickel raise, leaving him on par with the entry level hamburger flipper despite his skill and experience? Is that how liberals define 'fairness?' Or is that guy making $14.95 gonna expect a raise on par with the rise in the minimum, taking him to $21.95? And if every employer basically has to give every employee a $7 per hour raise, what will that do to employment and prices?

Just so it's clear, 1.6 million workers earn the minimum wage (another 2 million servers and bartenders earn less due to tip share).

Now with that said, do you know how many do not earn MW? Don't worry, ill wait.

The guy is a liberal, so what would you expect? He want's to increase welfare instead of increasing peoples incentive to work.

And apparently he desires low paying employers to continue to have their workers subsidized by government. Maybe he owns stock in McDonalds, I dunno.

Um, yeah, about that thinking part.....if you went to a private school, how would you know the curriculum of any (all) public schools?
