ISIS seems to be gaining a lot of momentum.

More than half of Syria’s territory is now controlled by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria group after its westwards advance into the ancient city of Palmyra, a group monitoring the war said on Thursday. The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights told Reuters the militant group has taken control of the city’s military air base and prison after storming them on Wednesday. ISIS followers posted a statement on Twitter saying it was in full control of the city, including the military installations, and that the retreating pro-government forces had left behind a large number of their dead.

Clashes since Wednesday had killed at least 100 pro-government fighters, the observatory said, which gains information through a network of sources on the ground. The capture of Palmyra is the first time ISIS has taken control of a city directly from the Syrian army and allied forces, which have already lost ground in the northwest and south to other insurgent groups in recent weeks. The central city, also known as Tadmur, is built alongside the remains of an oasis civilization whose colonnaded streets, temple and theatre have stood for 2,000 years

At this point it appears that Syria cannot recover from all ISIS has taken from them. Even if the Syrian government somehow survives with outside help, odds are the nation will be split up into pieces anyway.

This is the same guy you trust to negotiate an expansion of nuclear Iran?

I never said that. In fact, if you stopped listening to yourself long enough, I corrected you on that. It is Russia, China, Germany, the UK, France and the US that are negotiating a nuclear deal with Iran. Your lack of knowledge on this subject is of concern!

Just because other countries tag along, doesn't make it less "US talks"

Heya OS. :2wave: Now with the taking of Palmyra.....it is even more evident.

Fatigued, over-stretched, and losing the support of its base constituency, the Syrian Army is conceivably nearing the point of collapse. Major rebel offenses have taken control of the strategic cities of Idlib and Jisr al-Shegour in the north. Meanwhile, a second rebel offensive in the south has been steadily working its way towards Damascus, the capital.

These steady rebel gains have demoralized the Syrian military, created fissures within the regime of president Bashar al-Assad, and force Damascus to accept greater foreign assistance in propping an ailing government, according to an April 30th New York Times report.

A plunge in Syrian Army manpower
Declining support for the government
Government infighting
The regime is almost broke
Security is failing in Damascus
The rebels have consolidated.....snip~

The P5+1 are the signatories to any deal arrived at. Your lack of understanding on this disqualifies you.

lol, signatories you say?

it's always a "coalition" when convenient. Your cheerleading kneepads need replacing. Obama sucks. bro.

In an odd way, it might be good for ISIS to gain full control of an actual nation. Then, it's easier to know what to attack.

Worked for you when you were on your knees for Bush sucking up support from a coalition of the willing for Iraq, lol.

if they were smart they would leave the ruins of Palmyra standing, pretty much guarentees the west wont bomb in that area.

Nah, I am all for the Kurds taking those Two Cities and then controlling that area and keeping ISIS out. Thats who all should be trying to help. The Kurds.....tell Turkey to STFU and stay out of the way. Same with the Abadi in Iraq.....and he needs to allow the weapons to be delivered to the Kurds as was promised.

Most of ISIS-held territory (in both Syria and Iraq) is mostly desert anyways. Here's a map of both countries created by someone on Reddit that doesn't include desert:

Most populated areas are under the control of the regime (light red), and much of the rest are held by non-ISIS rebels (green) and Kurdish forces (yellow). Raqqa is the only major Syrian city that is under complete control by ISIS (black).

From the Lebanon and Syrian Border. ;)

On the Syria-Lebanon border (AFP) - On a windy hilltop overlooking the mountainous Syrian border, a fighter from Lebanon's Hezbollah says the battle against militants in the area is among the toughest the group has ever faced.

In the past two weeks, Hezbollah says it has secured around a third of the Qalamun region, territory on both the Lebanese and Syrian sides of the porous border.....snip~

To make things worse, I heard on the news today that Baghdad is nearly encircled.

Heya USC. :2wave: Its been that way for awhile. The Iraqis have like 60k troops in Baghdad with our Advisors. So ISIS isn't in a hurry to attack there in force. They were using suicide bombers.

This is exactly what Barack Obama and John McCain wanted. They wanted moderate rebels to take over the Syrian government and to oust Assad. But the warmongerers insisted that we destabalize the region and oust the government; a government I might add that was fighting to save the Christians from slaughter. I recall the neocons pissing and moaning about how Christians are under attack so it is bizarre that they demand that the government that was protecting said Christians be ousted.

Oh you mean after the MB, the Saud and Qatar all made the initial moves to remove Assad? Did you recall that too?

A near global coalition including the likes of Kerry and Hillary; the US has always led in world affairs until Obama became POTUS.

Now he "leads from behind" providing ISIS, a JV team, strongholds in two separate countries.

Additionally, libs just can't seem to grasp the irony of allowing a nation advanced nuclear capabilities that wishes "death to America."

Now that's really doltish, but what would one expect from the left?

You mean the "warmonger" in charge of the state department at the time?
