Bill threatens to defund Kansas judicial branch

I had to bring a few baby plants inside the past few nights, since they're still in their grow pots, but the ones already planted in the garden are on their own. I hope the old saying "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger" is true, otherwise I did a lot of work for nothing! :2mad:

It was 46 degrees this morning and overcast - quite a change from the high 80s we've been enjoying lately! Confusing to plants and humans alike. I haven't been outside yet this morning to check on the garden - but looking out my kitchen window at the deck area, I see the line of rhododendrons are taking their turn showing off, and they're gorgeous!

The purple rhododendrons are really spectacular when they come into bloom this time of year, especially if you have mature, five-footers or so. It's too bad they don't last in bloom longer, but that kind of show needs a lot of rest between concerts.

Mine are exactly as you described, having been planted years ago, and they are beautiful! Saw a few bees around them yesterday, so I hope they're making a comeback too, poor things. Poisonous sprays used to kill weeds and bad bugs are hurting beneficial insects, too, unfortunately, and ecologists are saying the monarch butterfly is in crisis mode at this point! I know I saw none last year when I used to see dozens during their migration travels. I attributed that to our lousy weather, but apparently it's far more serious! What kind of tradeoff are we making in order to keep people fed? I garden totally organically, so they're safe at my house, but it's not enough. Sad...

These things come and go Lady P - I remember not seeing any Monarchs for years until the last couple of years when they've started to return. Similarly, West Nile got the crows about a decade ago and we didn't have any around and now last year they started appearing again and this year they're back in droves - enough to drive you crazy!! But that's the resilience of nature. The bees are an issue here too, but there are enough in my backyard for my liking, thanks very much.

Anyway, it's nice to be enjoying the outdoors again - have fun!!
