Gerry Ritz, Ed Fast to respond today to WTO meat labelling victory - Business - CBC News

Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz and Trade Minister Ed Fast will speak to media at 10 a.m. ET on Tuesday in reaction to Monday's WTO ruling, which found that a U.S. law implemented in 2008 demanding country-of-origin labeling on meat products was discriminatory and protectionist.

Under WTO rules, Canada and Mexico — another country that had opposed the measures — are allowed to move swiftly to impose punishments, which could likely take the form of retaliatory tariffs on U.S. food products like wine, chocolate, cereal and frozen orange juice.

Consider food imports from China and quality of product safety.
