Mission creep.

Yep, but folks wanted a U.S. presence in Syria to go after ISIS. Now, they have it.

What folks? Three times Obama dispatched Clinton to the UN to secure a resolution for the use of force in Syria, all three times China and Russia said NO! Those folks didn't want it. The British parliament pulled their support of the notion, them folks didn't want it. Obama tried to get US congressional approval, those folks didn't want it. 70% of Americans were against it! them folks didn't want it. Other than the neocon freaks that want war everywhere, all the time, what folks want it.

:lamo You just said it! Those folks, the neocons!! :lamo

But I agree with you on principle here. Most Americans didn't want anything to do with the Syrian civil war even if it meant chasing ISIS into Syria. But we're there now and not just to conduct covert rescue operations or bomb ISIS militants in Syria from the air. We have a combat footing in-country now. This certainly changes things.

I guess we should just admit that the UN Charter isn't up to the new challenges of the 21st century and reorganize the world order.

How so Monte? The mission was to degrade and contain ISIS. Taking away their money maker.....does degrade them some, huh?

That is not what interests Monti.

Obviously, those that have wanted "boots on the ground" have found a back door. We'll prolly see more.

It also seems the wife of Abu Sayyaf - Umm Sayyaf - had a captured young Yezidi woman as a slave. She was freed by US Special Forces.

Another brave call from the president and a job well done by the commandos, good work US.

Lets go with Reuters instead. ;) They are saying we also freed a Yezidi woman that was held as a slave. No US Troopers injured or killed. BO finally listened to his whole team for a change.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - American special operations forces killed a senior Islamic State leader who helped direct the group's oil, gas and financial operations during a raid in eastern Syria, U.S. officials said on Saturday. The White House said President Barack Obama ordered the overnight raid that killed the man identified as Abu Sayyaf. U.S. officials said his wife, Umm Sayyaf, was captured in the raid and was being held in Iraq.

White House National Security Council spokeswoman Bernadette Meehan said in a statement that U.S. personnel based out of Iraq conducted the operation in al-Amr in eastern Syria. "The president authorized this operation upon the unanimous recommendation of his national security team and as soon as we had developed sufficient intelligence and were confident the mission could be carried out successfully and consistent with the requirements for undertaking such operations," Meehan said.

The White House said the U.S. did not inform Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's government in advance of the raid, or coordinate with Damascus. Shortly before the U.S. announcement, Syrian state television said the Syrian army killed an Islamic State leader responsible for oil-related affairs, identifying him as Abu al-Taym al-Saudi.....snip~

Oh, you mean the Saud and the Sunni, plus the Shia in Iraq? Since they weren't capable of doing it.....are you saying we shouldn't walk the walk when trying to get them to put people in on the ground.

You do know.....that when Leading, sometimes it takes getting out in front. Not sitting in the back behind a desk and telling others what they need to do. When left with no other good choices. Actions speak louder than words.

Now ISIS knows.....we are in their backyard. Just like they are in ours.

Damn that Obama. Another neocon, and still lyin 'bout boots on the ground. OTOH, the Obama administration did say they needed jobs over there. Now there's a vacancy.

Always better to go and kill jihadi terrorists in their own backyard, rather than wait for them to come to you.

Good stuff guys!
