APNewsBreak: Marine general chosen Joint Chiefs Chairman.....

I already responded to that though. Apparently, during his interaction with the man he perceived that he was under ranked for his skills and abilities and Obama saw commander in him several years ago. I'm sure he's a good soldier and would make you proud. Do you know him. Anyway, there's nothing here, bigger fish to fry.

Nah, never knew him.....he never fought in NAM. His career began in 78.

Obama liked him from the time he met him and immediately built a relationship with him. He related to him, understood him, and after a period grew to trust him and his advise, seeing things went well when he followed it. He said some of that yesterday. So he cleared a path for his rise in rank, wanting him ultimately in the position that he may be in next. Do you have a problem with the soldier?

he's not a soldier.. he's a Marine.

fast tracking Gnerals is primarily an internal mechanism within the individual branches, though the President ultimately decides whether or not to nominate a board approved officer.... and the Senate has to sign off on the nomination.
like everything else when it comes to general officers, political pressure can and is applied by ranking civilians.. especially SecDef... to secure promotions and billets.
( promotion boards are not going to thwart the whims and will of SecDef or CinC.. or even ranking congresscritters)

this particular case of fast-tracking is extremely fast... incredibly fast....without a doubt , this guy made friends with the right people at the right times.. both in uniform, and out.

that said, he's obvisouly a very capable officer and I have no doubts he will serve this post honorably and with skill....he's a Marine afer all.

Well, that was my point essentially. Soldier/Marine, he'll be fine. I understand the technicalities of Soldier, Marine, Sailor, Airmen.

Not really Monte.....it has been rapid for him and more than likely due to BO. Although I do wonder what our Marine Vets have to say about the fast tracking of this General.

The people I've talked to who have worked under him have described him as Brilliant. He was the widespread choice of the Corps (minus Mattis), to fix he-who-shall-not-be-named's screw-ups.

You're an oldster are ya? :)

What you talkin bout Monte. I still have a full head of hair.

Heya CPW. :2wave: So not a yes man then.....will BO listen to him. That will be the question.

Presidents install men that do what they want them to do, not the other way around.
