All affirmative action is wrong even when it's just for jobs at the post office. But when people get jobs as judges and cops and firemen because of race or sex, that's as wrong as anything can be. People are gonna die because de Blasio insists incompetent women get hired.

Woman to become NY firefighter despite failing crucial fitness test | New York Post

may 3 2015
The FDNY for the first time in its history will allow someone who failed its crucial physical-fitness test to join the Bravest, The Post has learned.
Rebecca Wax, 33, is set to graduate Tuesday from the Fire Academy without passing the Functional Skills Training test, a grueling obstacle course of job-related tasks performed in full gear with a limited air supply, an insider has revealed.
“They’re going to allow the first person to graduate without passing because this administration has lowered the standard,” said the insider, who is familiar with the training.
Upon graduation, Wax would be assigned to a firehouse and tasked with the full duties of a firefighter.
Some FDNY members are angry.
“We’re being asked to go into a fire with someone who isn’t 100 percent qualified,” the source said. “Our job is a team effort. If there’s a weak link in the chain, either civilians or our members can die.”
Wax’s graduation comes as the city celebrates the FDNY’s 150th anniversary and as the department is under pressure by the de Blasio administration to hire more women.
Only 44 of the FDNY’s 10,500 firefighters are female

Early in my career the company wanted to move women into traditionally male jobs. They did it by lowering the standards. Fortunately it wasn't a job where lives were at stake

Sorry ladies but everybody is sick of your conspiracy theory that men won't let you have jobs like firefighter. Fact is you don't have the ability for many jobs and that is your fault.

Really? Which jobs don't they have the ability for?

That's awesome! I'm sure we will all be happy that someone died or got injured when an un qualified fireman was sent to their home, but at least it was a woman.

Know it's probably feeding the troll buuuttt...you did read the article, like the part it mentions two other Women passed with flying colors, and even the source said did better then half the people there?

Anyways, bit cautious as only one source on this one so far but if it is true, don't agree with the idea. I do agree with critics that it seems a bit silly to have much lower standards to get into training, but higher ones for once in the program. I'd think the FST would be administered at the beginning before wasting time on all the education etc. and finding out you aren't capable of meeting the actual physical requirements.

 I dont think I would hold women accountable for genetics they can't account for.

Sorry, this is liberal bs.

You are tapdancing looking through whats the bigger issue-an unqualified candidate is benefiting despite her qualifications. I dont know why reality flies out the window when is a person of "protected" status, ie everyone but white men.

The fire department is a meritocracy (at least out of the politics, which is a factor here as well)-its not about if men or women should be able to be firefighters and therefore any man or woman should get a job. Its not symbolism. :doh

What does genetics have to do with anything? I'm sure Bruce Jenner in his prime could pass the test.

I am retired from the Department of the Navy. I had over 41 years there as an electronics tech, IT specialist, instrument tech, and finally contract analysis. As an ET, I saw certain people get brought into our field, but where I worked, it was real cold inside the lab. There were huge mainframes that had to be kept ice cold. This woman they hired was so incompetent that she destroyed everything she touched. She constantly complained about the coldness of the lab, and that's how they got rid of her. She claimed she was freezing all the time.

Before I retired, they promoted a black woman to GS-13, head project leader. She had to handle 20 to 30 projects at the same time. If the pressure got to her, she would burst into tears, throw a fit, and go home, and she lived 50 miles away in NC. The rest of us had to pick up the slack for her. She had all these math degrees and was an engineer, but every time she was assigned to do a heavily intensive mathematical cost model using statistical formulas, in Microsoft Excel, the model wouldn't work. Funny, I didn't have an engineering degree or a degree in mathematics, but I was always able to do the cost models, and every one of them did what they were supposed to do. If a minority wants to get ahead, the federal government is the place to go. There are a lot of minorities, Hispanics, Asians, and blacks, who have done good work, but this woman should never have been promoted.

Next is the Spec Ops in the military. Watch the standards be lowered. Funny thing, though, the enemy doesn't lower their standards on the battlefield.

Tell me you aren't suggesting the men never behave the same way? Holey Toledo, the moaning and bitching from men in many jobs is as bad or worse. I think you are just accustomed to the male way of bitching and don't tolerate the female way of bitching. My daughter's boss is exactly like the project leader you mention, always some dramatic bs, and he has leave and then be gone for weeks.

In private industry where schedules have to be completed on time, an employee like that will eventually be fired. Private industry doesn't put up with that. If you don't want to do the job, male or female, you are out. Now, the federal government keeps them all. It is next to impossible to get rid of a career civil service employee, and that especially hurts when they are that incompetent.

I think the bigger problem here is that people are using Excel to do anything of consequence.

Excel is a good program, but it was the only program that NMCI (Navy Marine Corps Intranet) allowed the Navy to have without extensive, expensive tests on other software before it would be accepted. Guess, who did the testing, the customer, mainly we in the Navy, who had requested the software. Excel has many add-in formulas, not to mention the macros you could write in Visual Basic. I hated Lotus 123, which we had before the Navy adopted all Microsoft products. Now, I hated Access. That was one difficult database program. We even used Excel as a database program. You couldn't beat Dbase, though.

Really? Which jobs don't they have the ability for?

Clearly firefighter.

Marine infantry officer ain't looking so good either.

Really? Which jobs don't they have the ability for?

If they had the ability to do certain jobs the requirements wouldn't need to be lowered, but considering they have been lowered in the military, police, and fire departments since the beginning of the whole equal employment farce it's pretty obvious they can't do the job. Saying that however there is exceptions to every rule, but like always it's wise to base your decisions on the rule, not the exceptions to it. Hiring women for certain jobs is like hiring an old man to for certain jobs. Well, I could hire that strong twenty year old, but that six-seven year old is just as good. Yeah, in the land of unicorns.

The board notes you never addressed the issue. Calling a thread a failure is NOT a rebuttal. Thanks for admitting you have no argument.

Firemen are trained to carry people out of a burning home. Firewomen are told to grab them by the ankles and drag them out!! Right thru all the stuff burning on the floor and god forbid if the person is on the second floor and has to be dragged down the stairs with their head hitting every step.

Ceteris paribus, if there were/are not enough male applicants, would you object (personally) if a female firefighter saved your life in this manner? Or would you rather die, out of principle?

Is there a problem with a shortage of males attempting to become firemen in New York?

HAHA. What a silly argument. So this incompetent woman should simply be GIVEN a passing grade because other women legitimately passed?? Can you think at all?
