Researchers alter embryo in such a way it could one day permanently change human DNA | National Post

Researchers edited a non-viable embryo’s genome to remove a gene that causes thalassemia, a serious blood disorder that can cause anaemia and even death.

The study, published in Protein and Cell, employs a relatively new method to remove trouble-making genes from the genome called CRISPR/Cas9. It’s previously been successful in animal tests, and it has been tested on human DNA before, but those studies did not alter what’s called the human “germ line” — what any theoretical baby would pass onto future generation through its eggs or sperm.
It is coming.
Thoughts are?

This sort of stuff scares me because of the potential it has for becoming a money making industry that allows people to "customize" their children.

I tried to get my kids to go into this field of study so that we could "customize" Arabs..

Well the overt racism came to this thread faster than I thought.

Doesn't take long, unfortunately.

Crazy how it do that.

It is inevitable. Whether it will be through genetic manipulation, cybernetics, or a combination of the two, my guess is 1,000 from now we will be quite physically different from today's humans.

This has the potential to do tremendous good in the world. It also has the potential to do great evil. Not sure how I feel about it, but science will inevitably get there, and relatively soon. Then we shall see.

I'm excited about the prospect of finding a gene responsible to a large degree for ageing. However, this also has the possibility of being used to change the very meaning of ethnicity and redefining the meaning of culture and what it means to be human. Is somebody whose physical existence is the result of design as human as I am? Generally, I find this is too close for eugenics for me. So we'll see...

That and just the general uncertainties of fiddling with human DNA!!

The danger in "playing God" is that human nature doesn't change, sigh.

What does "costumizing" terrorists have to do with race?

Arabs are the same race as me so maybe you should look up the definition of "race".

The Arab culture is generally one of lies and deception, along with the most brutal treatment of women and children but the liberal horde doesn't want to change their violent ways.

The liberal horde would ban all of the effort to save lives if there is any chance that parents could take a pill and keep their kids from being born homos.

The biggest fear should be that the viruses that will be used to cut and past the DNA will mutate and become a world killer.

Go for it. This should be quite interesting.
