Confrontation avoided? Iranian ships and U.S. aircraft carrier both turn away from Yemen - The Washington Post

Tensions off the coast of Yemen between the United States and Iran appear to be dissipating, with a fleet of Iranian ships possibly carrying weapons for Yemeni rebels and a U.S. aircraft carrier both turning away from the region, Pentagon officials said Friday.

The Iranian ships have turned northeast in the Arabian Sea, away from Yemen, said Army Col. Steve Warren, a Pentagon spokesman. The aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt and its escort ship, the guided-missile cruiser USS Normandy, also are heading back to the Persian Gulf, leaving seven other U.S. combat ships in the waters off the coast of Yemen, a Navy official told The Washington Post.
Thoughts are?

It won't stop fighting in Yemen, but if this reduces Irans' willingness to supply the Huthi with major armament (SAMs, CDCMs, SCUDs, etc), then it's a good win.

What was Iran promised to make them turn away from any confrontation and how much money will they make by doing so.

Nothing. This is not part of the nuke deal.

We don't know what happened yet but, as asked, that would be among the first thoughts.

Why aren't we supporting Huthi self determination.

What made them turn away wasn't money, but the certainty of having their ships sunk.

Probably true. I wouldn't doubt the willingness to sink a ship on suspicion.

Iran was smart. We were smarter.

Iran can't handle and armed conflict with US, but they are strategic allies with Russia, which in my view is why Obama is treating them lightly in negotiations, other wise I'm sure we would have run them over a long time ago.

I doubt Obama would ever give those orders. He only involves himself in confrontations with the Senate or Congress.
