Chris Christie vows crackdown on marijuana as president - CNN.com
I like Chris Christie, but a guy the size of a refrigerator shouldn't be talking about
addiction. I'm guessing he only complains about 'big government' if Cola-Cola is what is being restricted.
Is he sure he wants to be president? Overall, 53% say marijuana should be legal and 43% say it should be illegal.
The only political group who agrees with him are republicans, both democrats and independents say it should be legal.
Only age-groups 45 or older say it should be illegal.
In the article it is said that he also is opposed to medical marijuana. But he does know that in a recent opinion poll 84% of polled people say they agree with medical marijuana. That mean even most republicans agree with it. And this is not a 'just now" poll but since 2012 that number has been around 85% of polled people who agree with the use of medical marijuana.
Also, only 37% say it is down to the federal government to decide whether or not marijuana should be legal compared to 58% who say state governments should decide that.
In a poll from last year by Pew, people where asked about states that moved away from mandatory prison sentences for non-violent drugs offenders and whether they agreed with that or not, 63% of polled people said that was a good thing, only 32% disagreed with that. How on earth is he going to sell "cracking down" when people think the "cracking down" has been going way too far with mandatory minimum sentences for non-violent drug offenders.
When asked whether people with a small amount of pot should be jailed or not a whopping 76% of polled Americans said that these people should not be jailed at all and only 22% saying they should be in jail. In a CNN poll from 2014, when asked:
Assuming marijuana is not legalized, do you think people arrested for possession of small amounts of marijuana should be put in jail, or just have to pay a fine but without serving any time in jail?
12% said people needed to be jailed for that offense
79% said just a fine
2% said both
5% said none
2% were unsure.
Illegal Drugs
People are not interested in a huge crackdown on marijuana, I don't think republicans are much interested in that. Christie should worry about something that could actually safe loads of lives like obesity (and yes, I am morbidly obese too and know how dangerous and how many problems it is causing me now that I am a bit on in life) and good affordable health care and crack down on drugs like meth, krokodil, molly and crack. Those are the drugs that destroy most lives in the USA and cause the most violence and deaths on the streets.
Christie shows he is out of touch with the US public when he rants like this, Bill Maher must be sharpening his knives to cut Christie to pieces on this issue
