Rubio tells donors he is running for White House

Just wait NP......Hillary is going to select Julian Castro as her running mate and he will energize the young vote in much the same way that Hillary energizes a large proportion of the population. People don't just vote for people that match their own demographics....I'm sorry that your old white male mind can't comprehend that.

Okay, well the weeping and chest thumping about the historical vote for the woman/Hispanic started even before she actually picked the Hispanic running mate. That was predictable.

For the foreseeable future we are going to have nothing but hyper-partisanship in this country. There is so much hatred of one party against the other I cannot envision them working together.

Just look at this post in this thread

Am hoping someone else takes the Dem nomination from Hillary but like hell would I vote for that poster's candidate. And there is no way he would vote my candidate. There is a deep line in this country.
partisanship is fine, it is the inability to surpass partisanship once elected ( at all / for anything) that is the problem

Problem with Rubio is that aside from being from a younger generation, his views are not with the younger generation. They are standard Republican views. So his statement that there's no going backward rings a bit hollow. Most of his support will be from older people.

Here was Nate Silver and the NY Times on Rubio this past Feb.

DW-Nominate scores normally run on a scale that goes from negative 1 for an extremely liberal candidate to positive 1 for an extremely conservative one. To make the result more legible, I have multiplied all scores by 100 — so that, for instance, a moderate Republican might have a score of 25 rather than 0.25. Mr. Rubio achieves a score of 51 by this method. What does that mean, exactly?

The last two Republican presidential nominees, John McCain and Mitt Romney, had a score of 39 by comparison, meaning that they were more moderate than Mr. Rubio. Mr. Rubio is also rated as being to the right of Ronald Reagan, who had a score of 44, and George W. Bush, who had a score of 46. Among Republican presidential nominees since 1960, in fact, only the extraordinarily conservative Barry Goldwater, who had a score of 67, rates as being more conservative than Mr. Rubio.

But Mr. Rubio stands out less when compared to Republicans of today. Whereas in 1980 the average Republican member of Congress had a score of 30, the average Republican in the most recent Congress had a score of 48, very close to Mr. Rubio’s. Thus, my contention that Mr. Rubio is a good representative of the Republican Party as it stands today......snip~

The fact that Elizabeth Warren is being wooed scares me more than the idea of Hillary winning. A career bankruptcy attorney. Who better to lead the greatest nation on Earth?

Besides not agreeing with Hillary ideologically, what I find most troubling about her is how she stayed with Bill after all his promiscuous behavior. And her closest confidant is the wife of that Weiner character who was a congressman that used social media to share pictures of his private parts with strange women also stayed with him after that. I don't get that one and find it rather bizarre and creepy. Not exactly a swell choice to have as a potential first woman president.

But back to Rubio, I think he is going to bring a lot of good stuff to the debates. Looking forward to them

No.....simply pointing out to NP that Hispanics will vote for a Hispanic candidate and will be energized by that candidate if that candidate supports their views and their issues, not just because of the color of their skin. I don't know that she will....but I hope that she selects him!

She's not a good choice because she's been cheated on, and has a friend who has been cheated on? I'm struggling to understand this.

So Hispanics won't vote for Rubio just because he's Spanish, but they will vote for Hillary because she choses an Hispanic VP. Of course.

I tend not to wonder why women stay with their cheating spouses. I wouldn't do it personally but that's just me. What I do find noteworthy is how Hillary insists on presenting the image of her and Grandpa Bill sitting by the fire bouncing the grandchild on their knees like every other red blooded senior American couple. It's also mind boggling that there are morons who will actually believe it's for real.

Yes, and Clinton thinks women are dumb enough to vote for her because she is a woman (or so we think j/k)
This aspect may have worked for Obama, and Hillary tried it last time and failed, but it has been said that Hispanics vote for Dem, not for skin color. Any thoughts on that?

Don 't rack your brain too hard, I find it very strange a woman would allow herself to remain in a relationship with a serial cheater.

But back to Rubio, I don't want to throw this thread off topic.

Because he's Hispanic it seems to be my obligation to atleast check him out and give him a chance.

No matter her politics, why do you find it hard that she wouldn't love her grandchild? Am not a fan of Rubio but it wouldn't surprise me at all if he hugs his kids everynight.

You folks are so hyperpartisan that you lose value with your posts.

I never said one thing about not loving her grandchild. I didn't even imply it. You may want to keep your hyperpartisanism in check so you don't post lies as you just did.

He is attractive and he has an attractive family. Shame on me for admitting this, but that's one of the reasons I always disliked Mike Huckabee as a candidate.

What you guys don't understand is that Hispanics are like everyone else. They vote based on their values and issues. They won't vote for a latino candidate simply by the color of their skin. But if there is a candidate that matches their demographics but also shares their values and beliefs....yes....they will be excited to vote for that candidate.

You don't just find it strange, you find it disqualifying to be president. Which is more bizarre than staying with a serial cheater, as it puts the blame on the victim.

Great picture!

The Obama's also have great family photos. I guess that means Obama is a great president by your reckoning.

Woman will be excited to vote for a female candidate IF that candidate shares their values and beliefs. Does anyone honestly believe that if Sarah Palin ran for President, women would be running to the polls to vote for her, simply because she is a woman? Blacks didn't vote for Obama simply because he was black, but also because he shared their values and beliefs. Herman Cain would not have garnered anywhere near the same level of support from the black community.

It's hardly hyper partisan to think most of these politicians that portay this "happy home" as being factual. I'm not saying they don't all have that but the way some of them present their family life as perfect is not really relatable or truthful.

I stand by your post that you find it hard that Hillary and Bill would love their grandchild like every other grandparent.

How again would we not know this with Texas and Arizona.....while many of those out in California vote Demo.

We're talking candidacy here. Obama's visuals most definitely helped his candidacy.

So if they vote on values and issues, the nominating an Hispanic running mate would be irrelevant.

I've been interested in and volunteering in politics for almost 30 years. I never knew of a candidate who won because of his VP pick. But if it makes you feel better posting this early about the pick Hillary hasn't even made yet, I'll play along.
