Rand Paul announces presidential run

I'd vote for Rand Paul over Hillary and Biden.

I still keep thinking I'm going to wake up and find out that Jon Huntsman is declaring his intent. Dare to dream...

Wow I've never done much research on Huntsman but just spent about 30 minutes researching him. He's a guy we need in the Whitehouse! Was he too middle of the road to previously get the nomination?

Huntsman was an ambassador to China for Obama for one thing--an immediate disqualifier for most GOPs.

As Paul tacks to the right on defense, the swift boaters are already out with a despicable hit ad on Paul.
Which I think will backfire on the establishment, especially in states with open primaries.

The biggest problem for Paul is that he is etch-a-sketch on steroids, and the film is out there to show his flip-flopping.
As the swift boaters are now showing .

No, he's a progressive big government RINO. He turns off the GOP Base and the Dem's... why vote for Dem light when you can have the real deal?

I'm pretty pleased at how much enthusiasm for Rand has evaporated over the past few years. I'm honestly hoping he does poorly if only to put another bullet into the anti-interventionist/isolationist wing of our party*. So far the only candidates that seem possibly appealing to me are Rubio, Bush, Graham, and maybe Chris Christie.

*Though I am pretty impressed at how open he was about his hypothetical plans for criminal justice reform on his campaign website and I'd like to see that issue raised forcefully in debates.

Did you miss this part of my post. "but just like his dad, who the monopolistic GOP fenced out"

ultimately, I judge a person on what he does, not what he says.

the things Rand Paul have done make me think he is a better choice then anyone not named Gary Johnson.

Man, where the hell is Bernie Sanders at? I heard that he may be running, and it seems he might, I can only hope.

Paul/Sanders 2016 ? :2razz:

The GOP elites are so afraid of Rand Paul they started running hit ads yesterday from the same swift boaters who went after John Kerry in 2004 .

Sanders/Warren is the dream.

Sanders/Warren is the dream.

Not if you want to take a chance of losing two DEM Senators.
The Northeast is clearly swinging back to left-of-center and even center.

And they're too far left for the American voters who actually vote.

I'm more amused at how much the GOP fears him and has started these multi-million dollar hit ad campaigns right away .

Politics sucks
Meh, I'd rather risk Bernie/Warren and get real issues into the ears of the american public.

I only think his foreign policy is off from where it should be. A lot of the other things he's said make sense to me. I don't pay attention to the religious stuff (from either side).

Depends on what you think foreign policy should be, Rand went from an isolationist who was against the Iraq war and wanted to negotiate with Iran to having a war boner for ISIS and signing the GOPs senate letter against Iran. So his foreign policy has been all over the scale, give him enough time and Im sure he will take what position you want him to at some point.

I was more talking about some of the crazier stuff he has said. Like when his campaign communications director said that the govt perpetrated 9/11 and Rand refused to deny that idea saying there was "truth on both sides". Really? someone who wants to be president cant even forcefully say that the govt didnt commit 9/11. **** that Id vote for Hillary before Rand

Sanders/Warren is the dream.

Wasn't Warren the one that misrepresented her ethnicity for political gain. What we know of her politics, which really is not that much, is very good, but I do have a problem with her doing that.

Meh, not even close to as bad as what others have done.

Well we certainly agree on that, but, I want a cleaner slate than that. Sanders is very cool.

The problem with Romney and Ryan was that their answer to just about everything was either:

A) We'll bomb it.

B) We don't know, but we'll form a committee to figure it out after you elect us.

Answer B was the CEO talking. We don't need a President who can't think for himself or plot out his own ideas.

Not that I accept your first two points, but President Obama certainly proves your last point.

So he is expressing concerns about Emanuel being funded by the wealthy. Who the hell does he think will make enough donations to fund his campaign, should he decide to run? He would have to run one hell of an appealing campaign to even make enough waives for anyone to send him money. Sorry folks, that is the way it is.
If we don't think RP is going anywhere, BS won't either. (BS, I just noticed that. Not a good thing)

The difference between him changing his mind and others, who ran before him, is that he does so from conviction, not because it is from where the political wind is blowing. Far more refreshing than a Romney or Obama "yeah, I can be that guy if you want me to" approach.
The political climate changes, and a leader/potential leader must look at all facts before deciding. Things happen.
Someone on TV brought up a good point last night. Clinton, Bush, Obama all made promises to do this or that, but when the situation changed, they had to adjust. Nothing wrong with that.
And needless to say, most of us are capable of changing our opinion as we move along, are we discover facts. Nothing wrong with that either. Stubbornly insisting it must be this or that, now that is very wrong.
