Rand Paul announces presidential run

Face it, brother. With the stable of "also rans", suckers, dummies and fools declaring or about to declare their GOP candidacy it is going to be a made for television election like no other. None, I sincerely mean none, of the GOP candidates or assumed candidates represent the wishes and needs of most Americans, not even most of the wishes and needs of the GOP! Most people don't want any of these crazies anywhere near the Oval Office.

Now contrast that with Hillary, O'Malley and Webb. Webb is a serious contender, is damned qualified, a Vietnam Veteran, and is a no nonsense guy who is not a political whore. O'Malley, I don't know yet. But none of that matters because it seems that at this point liberals and progressive are all misty-eyed and dreamy over a Clinton presidency. That scares the hell out of me.

I don't even want to imagine the United States being lead by any GOP candidate, I can't imagine the nation being lead by Clinton. I get dry heaves thinking about it. Clinton is NOT the better choice over the any of the GOP bozos and none of the GOP bozos are the better choice over Clinton. Short of some kind of political deus ex machina we are all sweet and fairly ****ed.

Just like everyone else everyday, I walk around and talk to people, people I know well, friends, people I don't know well, family. I listen, I observe. Most people are fed the hell up with Congress and the White House and the condition of the nation. With the exception of Tea Baggers most people wouldn't think twice about supporting any of the above. Even Tea Baggers are leery of the presidential lunatics running out from under the rocks.

What bothers me most is that most Americans have given the hell up. They are willing to accept this even though they don't like it. "What can I do?" they say, and then they turn around and vote the party line - "because 3rd party candidates don't have a chance" - or they don't vote.

Washington, Congress, the machine is what has ****ed up this nation. Not Republican, not Democrats, but rather both parties. They are the problem, they cannot be the solution. And Americans keep doing the same thing and expecting different results. Democracy is dead in the United States.

So Ron Paul? More good media sound bites in the TeeVee nation. Another lunatic on the crazy train. And America will listen and watch and it'll all be like one pick reality show where America gets to cheer among choices chosen for them and everyone loses.

Heya RT. :2wave: Paul is already taking flak over his flip flop on Foreign Policy......This very day.

Webb would be a serious Contender. Former Marine and Undersecretary of the Navy. Very Serious. Now the rest the left has to offer is nothing more than some good time feeling. Hillary is a waste of space. Seriously this nation would look like a bunch of fools to elect such an Incompetent and mediocre NY politician all just based on she is a Woman. As there is nothing else when it comes to her.....nothing but deception and a fake leader who wouldn't give a damn about the people she leaves to die.

Like mentioned.....it wont change until they get rid of the 2 party system. Which I am all for that. Also I think its high time we took away those life-terms for Judges. Also any over 65 need to be psychologically tested every 3 years.

you also shouldn't of lied when you said it was just the democrats you were talking about.

Well I did just come back with I would still force them to.....Hopefully you would be leading the way as the obstruction.

Show me how Libertarians can win an election without Republicans voting for them?

I wonder who you talk to?

The mention of "Tea baggers" has me doubting your sincerity in not seeing Clinton as viable, and from your 'meme theme' non-specific comments about the GOP and it's "also rans", suckers, dummies and fools" the post reads like White House boiler plate with the exception of dumping on the real "also ran"

it is a two party system.

each party votes on what color their spots are, where the spots are placed, and what the spots mean over and over and over.

but It doesn't surprise me you see the solution as forcing people to act according to your wishes. "force them out" is your rally cry.

Oh please, this is tiresome.

Your posts are cleverly disguised excuses to insult people and this is the most disingenous of the day so far.

MMC did NOT any time make a 'war cry', nor even suggest what you claim. You know that as well as anyone reading this thread.

Also, you clearly know little about politics; it shows

What do you think F&L.....can Libertarians win an election without Republicans voting for them?

"Sanders is Right.....we do need a Political Revolution in this Country. Force the Libertarians and Tea Party to be their own parties.

Then the same for the Left between the Libs and Progressives and socialists."

but I think it is super cute that you are trying to defend your buddy.

i suspect there is a municipal council in the outback of Nevada someplace where yeah, with enough money and bull**** it could happen.
'
Then are we labeling Ted Cruz a what, a "tea bagger", Canadian, Mexican, libertarian or "also ran"...I mean he's a senator and all that..and since he's been labeled as one, hell who knows what a libertarian is. The country is confused what a 'liberal' is and so many in here say there are no "conservatives" I wonder if anyone knows what the other is talking about.

Yes they do.....but you haven't been watching yours. Which you aren't really wanting to go there anyways. Not being so swift off the cuff and response like. Otherwise we would already be at that place which isn't mentioned.

Oh, and just because I agree with him on this country needs a political revolution.....doesn't make him my buddy. Even you and your basics, should be able to figure that one out.

your reading comprehension is truly horrific....or you are in too much of a rush to respond to actually understand what it is you are replying to.

the post you replied to was me quoting FearAndLoathing.

when I refer to his buddy, I refer to you, not Bernie Sanders. That really should be obvious. read more carefully and it will save the constant mistakes you make.

Blame it on the Bong.

Since theoretically this thread is targeted at Rand Paul's candidacy, let's look at his announcement speech. The entire transcript is linked. It had a lot of stuff introducing him as a person and some background on what has made him the man he is.

Here I pulled out the points that I think illustrate what his announced 'platform' will be. And if this is the real deal, there's not a lot here to dislike:

. . .Congress will never balance the budget unless you force them to do so. Congress has an abysmal record with balancing anything. Our only recourse is to force Congress to balance the budget with a Constitutional Amendment! . .

. . .We limit the President to two terms. It’s about time we limit the terms of Congress! . .

. . .I want to reform Washington. I want common sense rules that will break the log-jam in Congress. That’s why I introduced a Read the Bills Act. The bills are thousands of pages long. And no one reads them. They are often plopped on our desks only a few hours before a vote. I’ve proposed something truly extraordinary…Let’s Read the bills, every page! . .

. . .Our great nation was founded upon the extraordinary notion that government should be restrained and freedom should be expanded. . .

. . .In my vision for America, new highways and bridges will be built across the country — not by raising your taxes but by lowering the repatriation tax and putting that revenue into the highway fund. This tax cut has bipartisan support. Even in this polarized Congress, we have a chance of passing this. , ,

. . .I say, let’s bring $2 trillion dollars home…to America… now!!. . .

. . .I want all our children to have the same opportunities that I had. We need to stop limiting kids in poor neighborhoods to failing public schools and offer school choice, not just for the privileged, but for everyone!. . .

. . .It won’t happen, though, unless we realize that we can’t borrow our way to prosperity.
Currently some $3 trillion comes in to the U.S. Treasury in taxes. Couldn’t the country survive on just $3 trillion dollars? I propose we do something truly extraordinary — let’s just spend what comes in!. . .

. . .In my Vision for America, Freedom and prosperity at home can only be achieved if we defend against enemies who are dead-set on attacking America. Without question, we must defend ourselves and American interests from our enemies. The enemy is Radical Islam and not only will I name the enemy, I will do what ever it takes to defend America from these haters of mankind! . . .

. . .We need a National Defense robust enough to defend against all attack, modern enough to deter all enemies, and nimble enough to defend our vital interests. But we also need a foreign policy that protects American interests and encourages stability — not chaos! I will oppose any deal that does not end Iran’s nuclear ambitions and have strong verification measures. I will insist that any final version be brought before Congress. . .

. . .Conservatives should not succumb to the notion that a government inept at home will somehow succeed in building nations abroad. I envision an America with a National Defense unparalleled, undefeatable, and unencumbered by overseas nation building!
I envision a National Defense that promotes, as Reagan put it, ‘Peace through Strength.’
At home conservatives understand that government is the problem, not the solution. . .

. . .when the Intelligence Director is not punished for lying under oath, how are we to trust our government agencies? Warrantless searches of American’s phone and computer records are un-American and a threat to our civil liberties. I say, that your phone records are yours. I say the phone records of law-abiding citizens — are none…of their damn…business! The President created this vast dragnet by Executive Order. As President…on day one…I will immediately end this unconstitutional surveillance! . . .

. . .We must defend ourselves, but we must never give up who we are as a people, we must never diminish the Bill of Rights as we fight this long war against evil.
We must believe in our founding documents. We must protect economic and personal liberty again. America has much greatness left in her. We are still exceptional and we are still a beacon for the world. We will thrive when we believe in ourselves again. , ,

. . .I see an America with a restrained IRS that cannot target and harass American citizens for their political or religious beliefs. , ,

. . .I see a simplified flat tax that unburdens our citizens. . .

What buddy?

And please, while making insults about "reading comprehension" please somehow make sense of "sanders is right..." etc. I have not one clue what you are talking about.

"words have meanings" is what exactly, ground breaking science on wordsmithing?

Please seal with the post if you are going to reply. You are deliberately disengenuous and insulting

the buddy is MMC. the bolded words were from MMC.

you jumped into a back and forth between me and MMC even though you clearly have no idea what the guy said

if you were to have actually, you know, read the disputed points, you would of stayed on the sidelines where you belong. you didn't though.

So what's your point, the fact you're losing to MMC or me entering your private piss fest.

I called you on your post because it was a lie about what another poster said. It was a clear foul. As I mentioned earlier, if you don't want people commenting on your posts, don't post.

But insults are for the schoolyard

caught up to what? Your lame insults?

You have yet to post anything of substance, only cheap shots at other posters, me and MCC to start

Do you have a point other than your opinion of the stupidity of other posters? If so you have yet to make it..

yes, I do have a point, and it actually pertains to something someone said.

forcing people to join one political party vs another is wrong. MMC supports it, I do not.

how about you actually deal with an issue of substance. you are not a mod, stop pretending to be one. if you think I broke a rule, report me. otherwise stop pretending to be something you are not.

actual ideas are being discussed in this very thread. try to join in

Heya AO.

here is how it sounded. Yeah and he did play the Reagan card. He also made mention about calling things for what they are. ;)

Well, really I am for each (call it Tribe) being their own Party.....and getting rid of the two party system.

I'd be more supportive of that notion if you could point me to one democracy where being a 'multi-party' system has been successful, or has resulted in efficient government. Just one. What inevitably happens is that the party's form coalition governments, which are just as screwed up as the two party system.

Well, really I am for each (call it Tribe) being their own Party.....and getting rid of the two party system.

how do you decide when a party has to fracture into two parties?

so you kicked out the tea party, and the libertarians. great. does that mean everyone left in the GOP is the borg or what? Do they vote on a platform and that platform goes unchanged forever? break it down for me, because this still seems nonsensical.

Like I said before they don't have to get kicked out when wanting to be their own party. Whats so difficult with the concept of each being their own party. Having their own platform? The concept applies to the Demos too.

Its not like it hasn't been thought of before.

Rand Paul doesn't want to be in another party. that is where the force comes in, right?

Republicans are lost. I am for neither party...but it is obvious which one is more electable for the White House.

The reps are supposed to be fiscal disciplinarians (they are not and have not been for decades), big on the military (they have gone too far on that now - supporting unwinnable wars for paranoid 'terrorists are under our beds' reasons), and solid at handling the economy (it was Bush - and the Fed - that started America into the low income housing mess that ended up helping to cause the huge recession and then it was his ideas which were for spending the way out of it...a democrat staple).

The Republicans are a mess and totally unelectable for the WH unless the Dems shoot themselves in the foot. Sure they can get the houses...but the White House is the Dems to lose so long as the Reps cannot prove they are fiscally responsible and economically more viable. But, right now, the only edge they have is the military. And that alone is not enough except when there is a war on.

Though I personally find Rand Paul a disappointment (being a big fan of his Pop), at least he offers a moderate who appears willing to listen and be reasonable on issues (whether you agree with his positions or not).
This, Neocon-run, Republican, terrorism paranoia will not win the WH (again, barring a Dem screw up or a war/another 9/11 attack) so long as the party remains clearly just as clueless on the economy and the budget as the Dems are. But at least the Dems offer reason and help for the poor...a huge vote winner.
And with the poor growing in numbers as the economy continues to stagnate (over 30% rise in food stamp usage since Obama took office), the Reps had better reach out to them on some level, because poor people care little about ISIS and far more about a solid job.
