I am very happy to hear that the people of Iran are enthusiastic about the nuclear agreement that has been reached. I really, really hope this works out well for them. It is a much needed chance for them and I hope they take advantage of this historic opportunity!

Iranians See Victory, Hope for New Image in Nuclear Agreement

Street celebrations in Tehran follow announcement

Iranians greeted the news of an agreement with world powers on its nuclear program Thursday night with street celebrations and expressions of hope about their country’s political role and economic engagement with the rest of the world.

Families drove along Valiasr Street in central Tehran honking, flashing headlights and playing loud music into the early hours of Friday. A group of young men blockaded one street and chanted “Freedom, only freedom!”

Others danced to Iranian music, shot off fireworks and shouted praise for Foreign Minister Javad Zarif, who negotiated the framework with the U.S. and five other countries: “Zarif! Zarif is the one who beats the U.S.!”

Vesal Hashemzadeh, a 34-year-old beautician, said she felt proud after hearing the news.

“Iran’s name was associated with backwardness, and it now has a good reputation,” Ms. Hashemzadeh said.

The preliminary deal, details of which remain to be worked out before a June 30 deadline, drew praise from moderate and conservative Iranian politicians.

The framework represents the “win-win result” that Iran had in mind, said Hamid Reza Taraghi, head of international affairs at the conservative Islamic Coalition Party.

“For the Westerners, Iran’s nuclear activities have been limited to some extent, and the Islamic republic proved its righteousness and continues its activities,” Mr. Taraghi said. “Annulment of the sanctions is a big victory for the Islamic republic. Of course, we expected much more, but it’s still satisfactory.”

On The Rachel Maddow Show (TRMS) they showed people dancing dancing in the streets.

There isn't any agreement. The Iranians disavowed it within hours of it's announcement by claiming that the US was lying about it.

The people may be dancing in Tehran, but even this tentative framework agreement will be difficult to sell to the regime hard-liners.

They have agreed on a framework. The details have to be hammered out, but the framework of a final agreement is there.

That means nothing. Iran is still insisting on immediate sanctions relief and continued use of centrifuges. Unless the US completely caves and goes back on everything they have said there will be no final agreement.

The appearance of progress is illusory. The hope for progress is naive beyond stupidity.

Ordinary Iranians are hoping this means an end to sanctions. The White House has repeatedly said that sanctions don't come off until the Iranians prove themselves trustworthy and capable of adhering to the agreement, which is never going to happen.

Hardliners in both Iran and the United States will not be happy. Civilized people will be happy.

Obama has proven yet again that good diplomacy works. Just think about what this man has done now: In less than one year, he has helped to thaw relations with two nations with whom we have had next to zero diplomatic ties for decades. Compare this progress with that of his predecessor!

You think that the Iranian negotiators were working outside the knowledge or approval of the so called "hard liners"? By the way, what's a hard liner? Netanyahu, Khomeini, McCain?

Left wingers already cheering victories for fascist regimes. no 3....2...1... needed.

I'm, sure most are not faking it. though I am also sure there are those not 100% on board, but they probably wouldn't dare say anything.

Ok, so are you suggesting that Iranians, the citizenry, want a nuclear weapons powered Iran?

No it does mean something. You simply don't want it to mean anything.

Iran is still insisting on immediate sanctions relief and continued use of centrifuges.

They have agreed to a suspension of sanctions that is proportional to the verification of the steps taken such as the redesign of a reactor. They have agreed to cut the number of centrifuges to under 6000.

Unless the US completely caves and goes back on everything they have said there will be no final agreement.

What the U.S. is trying to do is make sure that it takes Iran has at the very least a one year break out capability, i.e. it could not take Iran less than a year to actually build a nuclear weapon. That is reasonable.

The appearance of progress is illusory. The hope for progress is naive beyond stupidity.

It is illusory in your mind, not in the minds of reasonable people around the world.

Dunno, They probably don't care as long as sanctions are lifted...

The regime does.

You folks, apparently refuse to see it.

And you folks are scared of your own shadow.

True, but then again, if one were to show unhappiness or be critical of the government, you may "disapear".

So are you saying they are celebrating because the government is making them do it?

/facepalm

Nope.

I'm saying if you speak out against the regime bad things happen to you.

But, viva obama! /facepalm

Any rate, there are people in Iran that are happy as a result of this framework agreement. I am happy for them and wish them the best.

Hats off to Obama for having the courage to push this thing through.
