Their history says no, but a leopard can change it's spots.
What? Did they run out of American flags to burn?
Their history says no, but a leopard can change it's spots.
It should be noted that tweets by Iran's Foreign Minister, Javad Zarif (@JZarif), question some of the provisions cited in the above factsheet. Two relevant tweets:
Iran/5+1 Statement: "US will cease the application of ALL nuclear-related secondary economic and financial sanctions." Is this gradual?
Iran/P5+1 Statement: "The EU will TERMINATE the implementation of ALL nuclear-related economic and financial sanctions". How about this?
I want to read the text. At the moment it looks like we do not know enough. But so far there is no indication of a sufficient deal.
The Senate has to ratify it to become law.
Ratify what? It's the framework for a deal!
I know, I was talking about a final treaty. Apparently that wasn't clear.
It's the framework for a deal.
So, now it is a question of when, not if.
And as such it is much better than I had expected.
When Israel bombs Iran?
Heya Soot. :2wave: To get their Nuke.....you don't think being 2-3months from break out. That they will just stop the completion of what they have been striving for these last 20 years or so, did ya?
If they are that hellbent on getting a nuke...then what on earth would stop them beyond an invasion?
Heya ILOR. :2wave: Define invasion.....as here is a time, that would require some of that concept BO talked about, with using a scalpel and not a Meat Cleaver.
Scratch invasion and replace it with regime change.
If only.
That's not a scalpel that's a club.
Barack Obama framed this deal yesterday as the only alternative to war, which he claims is what his critics preferred:
When you hear the inevitable critics of the deal sound off, ask them a simple question,” Obama said. “Do you really think that this verifiable deal, if fully implemented, backed by the world’s major powers is a worse option than the risk of another war in the Middle East?” … He dismissed hawks who said that military strikes would work better than diplomacy. U.S. bombs, he argued, would set back Iran’s program for only a few years. “Meanwhile, we’d ensure that Iran would race ahead to try and build a bomb,” he said[.]
Actually, that’s not what critics wanted. They wanted all of the sanctions to remain in place until we at least got the deal that Obama outlined in 2012, not what he delivered yesterday – and an end to Iranian sponsorship of terror in the region and around the world, such as in Buenos Aires. The deal Obama outlined yesterday won’t stop more wars from erupting in the Middle East; it will provide a cash avalanche for Iran to greatly expand its proxy wars in the Middle East, targeting Israel, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia. You could smell the aroma from Obama’s burning straw man from Washington to Tel Aviv......snip~

The sanctions are still in place and are only to be relieved over time as compliance is verified.
So the only deal you would ever support is a deal that would never happen?
Yeah, I knew. No need to confirm.
Well, we all know, deep down, what the situtation is now.
That's not what the Iranian said....as Don Southerland already had up. ;
That Israel wants regime change in Iran, yes.
Sure..and Bibi stated there would not be two states as long as he's Prime Minister and soon after getting elected backtracked heavily. National leaders posture. While Reagan was giving the "tear down this wall" speech he was working with the Russian government. The only thing that matters is what is in the deal and if the 5+1 group believes that Iran is adhering to the deal. If not, they will put into place sanctions. As long as the 5+1 refuse to lift sanctions until Iran proves itself then the final agreement will never be signed.
At the end of the day, this deal has the most potential to set back the Iranian nuclear program than anything done other than a bombing campaign.
Which still gives them their nuke if no agreement is signed.....it also will allow the Saud, the Egyptians, and others to begin their nuke programs. As they have already stated they will have what Iran will.
Outstanding Problems and Concerns:
Well, let's start with Iranian officials' various triumphant pronouncements, including throwing serious shade at the State Department's "fact sheet," which is dismissed as "spin." Which of its elements does Tehran view as illegitimate or misleading? One supposes that Kerry and company will find out in the next few months, as the nuclear clock ticks away, of course:
Let's also recall that a major reason that additional sanctions were slapped on Iran in the first place is that they were caught cheating on another international nuclear treaty -- because that's what they do. They cheat. The State Department's fact sheet assures us that even when various provisions of the new would-be deal expire, Iran would still be bound by that same treaty (NPT) it has already breached. In an attempt to fortify the mullah's good intentions on the nuclear front, Obama cited a religious order, or "fatwa," issued by Ayatollah Khamenei that forbids nuclear weapons. Two problems: The fatwa doesn't actually exist, and Iran has a history of ignoring their own fatwas in order to achieve their military goals. Obama's reference to this nonexistence edict is misleading and naive......snip~
Revealed: What You Need to Know About the Iranian Nuclear 'Framework' - Guy Benson
At the end of the day...the agreement depends on Iran and the 5+1 agreeing to the terms. Iran can say whatever they want frankly, it's actions that matter. I'm not sure how the "nuclear clock is ticking away" as we are in the same exact position now that we'd be if the agreement wasn't being worked on...
As for the additional sanctions...I remember that time. The reason we have additional sanctions is Pres Obama pushed heavily for them while Bibi and Republicans were talking red lines and bombings. The President pushed for a less drastic measure and lo and behold...we got what we wanted without dropping bombs.
