Supreme Court Rules Government GPS Trackers Can Break Fourth Amendment

this is huge and it was an unanimous vote on it as well.
that gps tracking is considered a search, and that a warrant has to be obtained.

this could have implications as well for phone gps tracking that law enforcement will need a warrant for that as well.
since they have ruled before that you have a right to privacy for your location.

finally a win for the constitution.

2 hours and no addition to this thread. Must be because it has nothing to do with Obama, gays, religion or guns.

I'm inclined to agree that it is big. It was the electronic equivalent of "your papers please" without the question and without the please.

Definitely a good decision. maybe the justices are paying attention after all to police overreach with technology.

SCOTUS needs to be doing more.

I'm willing to bet that the NSA has broken the 4A 500,000,000,000^1000 times.

That being said, I love it, this is definitely a step in the right direction.

I agree however I think the NSA has been put under wraps for the time being.
the problem is the FISERV court that is used.

no public document no nothing it is a secret court that these people appeal to in order to do what they do.
the problem is without knowing what goes on there can be no oversite.

Good decision.

I have no doubt that cops will ignore this ruling. After all, it's only cheating if you're caught right?

nope because a lawyer can request the warrant by the court.

Thank you Supremes!

I was beginning to think that everyone in Government was an idiot.

While I don't want to comment on the idiocy or not of the justices - even a stopped clock is right twice a day! (smile)

But yes, yea for this decision! we are fast to beat them up when we don't like their decisions; we should be as fast to say "good work"
