German plane intentionally crashed

Sure, but I still have some sort of control in a car. In a plane my life is entirely in the hands of the pilot and there isn't a damn thing I can do to gain control if he goes completely ****ing insane and wants to kill me.
Avoid roads, far more people you can't control doing stupid crap, like driving drunk, speeding, texting, eating, running red lights. This has to be one of the silliest comments to cover fear of flying I've ever seen.

Seems stupid to me.

If you're suicidal, put the gun in your mouth and press to your heart's content, don't take others with you especially when they're unwilling.

So it shall be, this suicidal man is given the tag, "inferior subhuman."

He is not part of our species, he's of a lower and more inferior class.

Life insurance won't pay on a suicide.

I don't fly. I haven't been in a plane since '98 or so.

Too bad. Statistically speaking it's about the safest thing you can do.

Yea, I hear you.

When I got out of High school I got my A and P license and went to work for a large Carrier as a Mechanic working on a Variety of Aircraft including 737's.

I can tell you from experience that these jeststs have redundancies on top of redundancies on a variety of systems and subsystems.

You are far safer in a 777 than you are driving to the airport in your own vehicle.

Sometimes things go wrong during a flight and back up sytems kick in and the passengers are not even aware.

We also had a small FBO across the ramp from us that hangered corporate jets like Lear 25s and Challenger 600s and one Gulfstream 3 and single engine Pipers and the dreaded " V tail doctor killers " ( its what we called the Bonanza's with a ruddervator " )

They lost a enough of the single engine small planes to make me NEVER want to step foot in a small Aircraft like a piper Warrior.

But the jets are very safe.

Thats not entirely true.

Some policies WILL pay if the Policy holder committed suicide.

The Policy has to be active for a minimum of 2 years typically. Also if the Policy holder had a history of Depression that was being managed through a Physician the Insurance company WILL pay on a Suicide claim.

They treat depression like any other life threatening disease.

I didn't know that. Thanks for the informative post.

May be so, but on the ground you may have some chance to avoid collision, depending on circumstances. In the air, you just go down and there isn't a darn thing you can do. Its the feeling of helplessness, but I can't speak for the member.

As far as the life insurance of the passengers is concerned, it would be homicide.

Yes indeed.

I was thinking of the life insurance for the co-pilot.

Sometimes total failures at life will try to justify their suicide by having their SO collect from the insurance policy. Think "Airport", Lee Marvin, and 1977.

The fact those passengers died due to murder is horrific.

But it's not the worst way to go (if you are going to be murdered)...if you keep your wits about you.

They felt no physical pain and had time to call and say goodbye to their loved ones. And death was instant (I assume).

I have often wondered (especially after 9/11) how I would react in a situation like that. Would I panic and act like a screaming idiot? Or would I remain calm and accept my fait and make the best of it (phone loved ones to say goodbye)?

As for deaths? Go to a palliative care ward sometime - especially in a non-ritzy hospital. Many of the patients are alone, scared, lonely, in pain and slowly waiting for the end.
Now that's a lousy way to die.

I wonder if the voice recorder shows the co-pilot shouting "Allahu akbar!" as the plane goes down. I also wonder how it is, after 9/11, that it is still possible to keep the pilot out of the cockpit of a commercial aircraft.

Unfortunately the co-pilot was breathing till the last moment,it was deliberate.

But....a person can still breath when they're unconscious.

On the tape, investigators said they could hear the co-pilot breathing normal right up to the end. But.... if he consciously knew he was about to die...wouldn't he breath a little faster or more erratic....not even a gasp?

This is a good point. What other evidence do they have? Perhaps experts have explained this already, and if so, my apologies.

According to the reports the co-pilot said nothing out loud. All you could hear was his breathing. Precautions following 911 are exactly what caused the pilot to not be able to enter the cockpit. The doors were armored and a locking system was installed. It functioned perfectly. It was not supposed to protect the aircraft from the pilots.

Riight because only Muslims can be mass murderers in your view.

It's only day three.....and to my knowledge, they haven't released the audio tape to the public. They're still looking for the other tape that was blown out of its box. Since the plane was literally pulverized and the enormity of the debris field.....it will probably take awhile before they can finally conclude what happened. But, here's what they know so far (not complete)....

After reaching 6000 ft...the plane was deliberately set into a downward descent.

The plane glided downward at a steady pace for 8 minutes before impact.

There weren't any distress signals coming from the plane. Ground control could not make contact.

Based on the debris field, the plane didn't explode in mid air.

On the recording, the co-pilot is breathing normal inside the cockpit....while pilot is outside pounding on the door. Screams were heard suggesting the passengers became aware they were about to crash in the last seconds before impact.

The plane was pulverized...no survivors.

Co-pilot was 28 year old German citizen, trained in Arizona before getting job with Lufthansa in 2013.

they are saying the guy suffered from depression. who wants to bet this entire thing happened because of A WOMAN. why do I say that? easy....it's always about a woman.

wait and see
