Saudi Arabia Begins Air Campaign in Yemen

Looks like they have already secured the southern tip of the red sea, and the US will help keep it open...
Egypt seizes Bab el Mandeb ahead of Iran. Saudis bomb Iran-backed Yemeni Houthis. US launches air strikes over Tikrit

And Im reading reports (twitter) that Turkey and Sudan are joining coalition forces.

Seems lots of nations are worried about Iranian power expanding into Yemen.

I like when there are maps. Now Hezbollah speaks out against the Saud.

Hezbollah sees Yemen strikes causing more Mideast tension.....

BEIRUT (Reuters) - Lebanon's Hezbollah condemned as "unjust aggression" Saudi-led air strikes in Yemen on Thursday and said it takes the region towards increased tension.

"This adventure, (which) lacks wisdom and legal and legitimate justification and which is led by Saudi Arabia, is taking the region towards increased tension and dangers for the future and the present of the region," its statement said.

"We see that this aggression secures American interests and offers a great favor for the Zionist enemy," it said, a reference to Israel.....snip~

Yup, the US basically supported a corrupt government and the 2011 civil war started when the president tried to amend the constitution to have his son inherit the presidency- the government then proceeded to brutalize the south and suppressed dissent while America looked the other way and then it now backfired. When you ally with scumbags like that you can expect trouble and its finally happened.

And Saleh, the former President is right in the middle of this with the Houthi's.

Yemen's Aden braces for fight with Houthis and old foe Saleh

While the battle is publicly being waged by the Shi'ite Muslim Houthi movement, many Adenis believe that the real instigator of the campaign is former president Ali Abdullah Saleh, a fierce critic of Hadi.

Saleh was the author of the city's previous humiliation in 1994, when as president he crushed a southern secessionist uprising in a short but brutal war.

And Saleh, the former President is right in the middle of this with the Houthi's.

As I understand it he's no longer commanding forces, relieved a few days ago. Its also hard for the Houthis to paint this as a popular uprising against an unpopular govt when they are fighting behind a former President.

Heya Ockham. :2wave: Pakistan weighed in too.
Iran went a place to far. This is going to get real messy.

CAIRO — Egypt said Thursday that it was prepared to send troops into Yemen as part of a Saudi-led campaign to drive back the Iranian-backed Houthi advance, signaling the growing likelihood of a protracted ground war on the tip of the Arabian Peninsula.

A day after Saudi Arabia and a coalition of nine other states began hammering the Houthis with airstrikes and blockading the Yemeni coast, President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi of Egypt said in a statement that the country’s navy and air force had joined the campaign and that its army was ready to send ground troops “if necessary.”

Because they are pragmatic.

Only in that they are pragmatically playing Obama. The ME is blowing up against Iran right now, Im seriously doubting they will even feign a desire to work with the US, as we are actively aiding their enemies with intelligence and in keeping open the red sea.

The Generals loyal to him are the ones that matter. As they went with Saleh.

This will not halt or interfere with a deal.

Heya JF. :2wave: Turkey isn't. Erdogan just got done telling Iran they are annoying Ankara.....this won't be tolerated. What a crock.

This coming from the Guy who helped Iran get around the Sanctions with their Gas for Gold scheme. That Bo's Treasury Dept busted out.

Turkey's Erdogan says can't tolerate Iran bid to dominate Middle East.....

ISTANBUL (Reuters) - Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan accused Iran on Thursday of trying to dominate the Middle East and said its efforts have begun annoying Ankara, as well as Saudi Arabia and Gulf Arab countries.

"Iran is trying to dominate the region," said Erdogan, who is due to visit Tehran in early April. "Could this be allowed? This has begun annoying us, Saudi Arabia and the Gulf countries. This is really not tolerable and Iran has to see this," he added in a press conference......snip~

Turkey with the present dictator (Erdogan pulling the strings as president) heading -pushing Turkey towards becoming an Islamic State.
Erdogan is the biggest long term threat to Turkey.

Could split like it was before?
But clear the Saudi's have had enough.
And it is past the time they get their hands dirty.
US can sit back and watch.

The US wont sit back, it has at the very least to protect sea lanes past yemen, and its already providing intelligence to the Saudi's.

The only side that benefits from this conflict across the board is ISIS, both in Yemen, and elsewhere.

The real question is what this will do to US-Russian relations.

As for a split-thats unlikely anytime soon-whatever happens this will be a drawn out conflict, the Yemenese certainly dont like foreign intervention and it could easily take a conflict to the mountains and deserts for years and years.

And the driving powers Iran and SA, both have a real incentive to beat the other here. I can see Iran committing conventional forces here like they have in Syria if they need to. Its not going to end well.

Iran imho will not commit troops.
Iraq is their long term priority. Perhaps we may see a merger in the future as at one time they were part of Persia. That won't go well with minorities or the rest of the world.

Iraq? Its certainly a way to expand the Iranian empire, but so is Syria.

ISIS and AQ are the real beneficiaries here-while the cats away.

Syria, no imho, Iraq 60 % Shia. The vast majority are Shia.
What we could be witnessing is the start of the breakdown of the WW1 imposed borders in the ME. Who knows.

Yemen's president showed up today in Saudi Arabia. And the Sauds did not inform the U.S. before they started the bombing raid. They have to secure the sea passage not only for themselves but all imports/exports from Jordan, Egypt and other places. If the Iranians take control of them it could be a disaster to the economy because they would have to travel all the way around Africa which would slow down deliveries and cause a greater expense.

Yes its a freaking powderkeg. There is some promise in seeing relatively western friendly (or at least not hostile) islamic nations working together, but in the end Im really only concerned with our interests in the region, and that consists mostly of oil, and terrorism.

Putin says he will stand firm against the West. Then he is working trade with some South and Central American Countries. Is looking to reach and an arms deal for Mig 29s with Nicaragua.

Plus now is accused of helping with some extra curricular activities with Argentina and the Falklands. Causing the Brits to speak out.

Then Russia released this today. Putin is making money!

Russian superhighway could connect London to New York.....

Russia has unveiled ambitious plans to build a superhighway that, in theory, could make it possible to drive from London on one end to New York on the other. According to a report by The Siberian Times, the head of Russian Railways is asking the government to seriously consider his project dubbed the Trans-Eurasian Belt Development, the first modern transportation corridor that would link up the Pacific to the Atlantic Ocean.

Plans call for the construction of a new high-speed railway and the development of major roads that would span the length of Russia, link up with existing transportation networks in Europe and Asia -- and cross the Bering Strait. A network that would run about 20,000 km (12,400 miles) in length.....snip~

Interesting, I dont see it happening but interesting nevertheless.

Our biggest imports come from Canada, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Venezuela and Russia. Just looking at that list, it would have been real advantageous for Obama to have signed Keystone. You can thank a couple of Democrats for not giving the Senate the super majority to override Obama's veto. Relations with Russia, Venezuela and Mexico aren't exactly stellar either. Makes the words "drill baby drill" almost prophetic. Instead Obama is squeezing the fossil fuel industry with major EPA regulations and has spent billions in building windmills to save the drowning polar bears.

It looks like the stage is being set for a Shiite/Sunni civil war and where is our president and John F-ing Kerry? Ready to give Iran their blessing for a nuclear weapon and the Sunnis/Egyptians/Israelis feel like the U.S. has betrayed them.
