Khamenei calls ‘Death to America’ as Kerry hails progress on nuke deal

To the bolded. I assume you refer to the P5+1 deal, if so we agree. Otherwise, I disagree with your optimism of a preferred outcome to an Iranian revolution. And particularly, this is not the time to be wishing to add another destabilized country to the list in the ME.

Wait for the next elections. I see it as a natural progress for Iran to move away from a theocracy or in my opinion a Thugocracy.

Iran respects strong leadership and if needed force. They, like most of the thuggish countries of the world do NOT respect whiny, appeasing, chumps like Obama.

Look around, WHERE is he succeeding? Can you give me examples of his smart diplomacy working? Face it, he fails constantly, and he and his army of gruberites try to spin it into success. The left is simply unable to deal with reality.

I continue to see parallels between this Iran and the Iran of Jimmy Carter's days. They had every reason to keep their mouths shut during the Reagan era [now watch all the guns-for-hostages posts!] and under Bush 1, under Clinton and certainly under Bush 2, with US tanks and missiles conveniently poised on Iran's border.

But now? After Arab spring, Egypt, Libya, Iraq, Iraq again, Putin's bullying and all that?

Yeah, I would say they see this as their last, best hope.

The "Death to America" is so cliche in Persian, that it's virtually meaningless. You could shout "Death to Spinach" and it'd have the same oompf to the average Iranian.

Yeah, no big deal. Just like some fools want to make a big deal of those "Achtung, Juden!" signs, usually paired with a skull and crossbones, that they drew on the windows of Jewish-owned shops in Germany in the late 1930's. It was just a meaningless thing people said--a sort of a harmless jibe.

Yes, the Persian is "Marg bar Amerika!" ( مرگ بر ) which is inaccurately translated as 'death' (the literal meaning) whereas it's truer translation is more along the lines of 'down with'.

They shout it in regards to anyone or anything of which they're not a fan (including spinach), but by all means, don't let that stop your vapors US Conservative.

Words mean things. I know thats hard for a lefty to understand (because they dont care).

Don't you think that's indicative, then, of just how much they hate us and our values? To them, from what you've posted, "America" is equated with all that's bad. And here, leftists like you want us to compromise our and our allies' security by appeasing people who equate just the name of our country with evil?

Hate?

Please demonstrate where there is "hate" in that post at all, and "hate" directed at the United States?

The ****ing over-the-top rhetoric in the defense of a president whose loyalty should be questioned is preposterous. FFS, Boehner is a "traitor" for visiting Israel, members of congress are "enemies" according to your president......and you accuse a loyal American who is exercising his constitutional right to impeach policies and actions of government?

From a bunch of bullies who have destroyed with rhetoric every opponent from within and without, including an ally like Netanyahu and you accuse others of hate....?

That's disgusting

I wonder why Moot disagrees with Hillary-who said dissent is the highest form of patriotism? Maybe that only applies to democrats.

I don't know what reason there is to think that an Islamist theocracy like that would honor election results that went against it.

Well that would be nice, and likely good for the region. Mind you that democracies can be and have, and are as hegemonic and imperialistic, indeed often more so than authoritarian societies.

Thats interesting, Im seeing many nations in the region towards fundamentalist religious states. Iran just got there first.

I don't think that most young people in Iran want to stay the course dictated by some old dictators. Sadly, we have missed a great opportunity to support their plea, and I am not sure if we will get another chance such as that.
We need to strengthen and support those who want to escape the theocracy, not punish them, or empower these old crazy men by giving in to their demands.

To remove Iran's nuclear capability, by whatever means necessary is the appropriate action.

So you are for troops on the ground, destroying Arak, Fordow would also be on the list? Only way of knowing it would be destroyed is to have a look see.
Destroying all air and naval assets, as well as land assets as a look see is needed at Fordow.
Then Hezbollah attacks Israel.
Hamas starts another war.
And the boys will be home for Christmas.

No, it's American. But it's also a cheap shot from a weaker position to default to labeling dissenters as anti-American.

The thugs know when the getting is good, thats what we are seeing here. The left simply can't deal with these people.

Like Carter, Obama has had an adversarial relationship with Israel as well.

Bottom line, when a liberal leaves office, the bad guys are at an advantage, and our allies are (rightly) pissed off.

Sanctions hurt the Israeli citizens, not the Ayatollahs or Mullahs, not the ruling "elite".

You guys are starting to make me think that conservatism is all about anger and being opposed to something and not about favoring anything.

I ask again, though I have no hope that it will be answered. What would be the appropriate action? So far we've ruled out military and diplomatic means.

Who has ruled out military means?

And why are you asking 'conservatives', which I am not, how to fix Obama's mess? He's the one lifted sanctions, you socialists are the ones who claimed they weren't working, my government said leave them in place?

Why is it every time Obama screws up, the answer is 'well, smart ass, what would you do?

First? Fire Obama.

Thats interesting, Im seeing many nations in the region towards fundamentalist religious states. Iran just got there first.

Iran is different imho.
Tunisia headed for a civilian Govt.- Egypt is an economic mess held together by Saudi funds.
Libya is in a civil war over wealth mainly, not completely about religion.
Iraq - screwed and will split over time.

Over time it will imo

A fledgling democracy. How long did it take us in the west to get where we are?
And religion will always play a part.

I'd like to think you are right but there are plenty of young, fundamentalist leaders there as well-perhaps even the next supreme leader.
They have been cutting their teeth fighting against the US, and Iraqi and Syrian Sunni's for years now, often on the front lines in full Islamic garb. Video's of them are on Liveleak.

No, not at all. Iranians are pro-America. The war hawks though, the beneficiaries at the MIC, even some of the media moguls that are invested in the defense industry, would prefer to have Americans believe that the Iranians are all evil, and that they're all coming to get us. For the country who spends eight times as much on its military might than its nearest competitor, we sure have a lot of frightened people here.

You mean you're inaccurately translating, deliberately, a word that in the context used means "may America be destroyed" as "Down with American policies, they are so irritating". Awesome. Next thing we know "The Great Satan" is simply a mistranslation and the actual meaning is "The Great Nation".
M I RIGHT? M I RIGHT?

Are any of you fluent in a foreign language?

To the bolded, probably so, if they decide its in their interest. Do you dismiss that Israel may have military options on the table?

I do not dismiss it - they have to act in their best interest. The problem is our current President doesn't agree.
