You must have lost your sense of smell if you live around the BS you sling on the Internet.

incorrect...

so you believe Putin fears the UN?...

and just a for a bonus..You would trust Israel existance to the UN?

I cant wait

Re: Obama Sends Iran a Nowruz Message, Calls Nuclear Talks a 'Historic Opportunity'

They have far more legitimacy in wishing to control the Middle East than the US has. And surrounded as they are by American bases, and given America's penchant for demonization and lies about ME countries, they have every reason to be concerned about the US and Israel.

sure....lol

Re: Obama Sends Iran a Nowruz Message, Calls Nuclear Talks a 'Historic Opportunity'

Your posts are garbage and lies.. and not even relevent..

again the UN cant and wont do a thing..they never have..they are vile institution of anti semitism

Sorry to embarrass you.

Re: Obama Sends Iran a Nowruz Message, Calls Nuclear Talks a 'Historic Opportunity'

The photo reconnaissance I've seen shows that even their nuclear facilities that are above ground are surrounded by barriers with guard stations, with anti-aircraft missile batteries and radars nearby. Not that any of that would make the slightest difference IF the U.S. were ever determined to bomb those nuclear weapons facilities.

I also remember reading an IAEA report that went into extreme technical detail, at great length, about a number of technical characteristics of the equipment at Iran's facilities that would not be usual in nuclear power generation, but are completely consistent with a nuclear weapons program.

Greetings, Matchlight. :2wave:

Which explains the concern that everyone has about these talks. When countries in the region are aligning with Israel, which is almost unheard of, it seems to boil down to a matter of trust. Apparently they do not trust Iran to be honest about what their goals are, but they do trust Israel to keep on top of things. Considering that Iran is funding many terrorist organizations, they may have good cause to be alarmed!

Re: Obama Sends Iran a Nowruz Message, Calls Nuclear Talks a 'Historic Opportunity'

So you're in that minority with freaks like Netanyahu and McCain that wouldn't have attempted any agreement or treaty with Iran whatsoever because in your view Iranians are "evil" and as such can't be trusted, therefore, bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran.

When you are incapable of honesty, like your comment here, you fail to understand the truth and must resort to this level of immaturity. Netanyahu, nor I, nor any of the "rest of the freaks" are against treaties, or giving it an honest effort, with an honest partner in the matter. Iran has not been for 30 years, only fools keep thinking the tigers stripe is changing.

how did you do that?... LOL...

Gotta love the hysterics in this thread.

Re: Obama Sends Iran a Nowruz Message, Calls Nuclear Talks a 'Historic Opportunity'

America (and Israel) is the only odd one out here. No other countries have such bizarre trust issues with Iran, nor does Iran have such difficulty rest of the world, probably because the rest of the world doesn't have such a large number of Cowboy-diplomat, conservative jingoists who seem to want to level Iran every chance they get.

 That is an epic, emotion laden and ultimately fact-free rant:

As Iranians prepare to elect a new president, the country’s international image is largely negative. Majorities in most of 39 countries surveyed have an unfavorable opinion of Iran, and most say Tehran does not respect the personal freedoms of its people. Meanwhile, any nuclear ambitions harbored by the Iranian government continue to draw strong opposition from Western countries, as well as neighboring states in the Middle East.

Now for the important part:

Majorities in many predominantly Muslim nations surveyed also see Iran in a negative light, including countries such as Jordan (81% unfavorable), Egypt (78%), Turkey (68%), Lebanon (60%) and the Palestinian territories (55%). Only in Pakistan (69%) and Indonesia (55%) do majorities express a favorable opinion of Iran.

It seems that you, in fact, are the odd one out here.

Did you not read what I had posted in the previous paragraph?

"Iran is a completely middle-of-the-road, 80 million pop country that falls into line with the expectations/problems we have with every other non-Western developing country."

Iran's development is on par with the world average, which puts it in line with countries like Colombia, Thailand, Costa Rica and Botswana. These are countries that do not have overly positive worldly opinions towards them (Colombia and Costa Rica's drug wars and gangs, Thailand's military junta, etc.), nor are they are particularly stable, safe or prosperous countries. However none of them have the same bizarre or absurd standing in America's psyche like Iran does, where America is unreasonably antagonistic towards them.

Second, you forget that Jordan, Egypt, Turkey, Lebanon and Palestine are all Sunni. Iran is not only predominantly Shi'a, but it is to Shia Islam as Saudi Arabia is to Sunni Islam. Heck, it's run by Ayatollahs (the title given to the highest ranked Twelver Shi'a Muslim clerics). Of course Sunnis aren't going to hold Iran in a positive light.

1. If they don't allow inspectors access when and where it is needed the agreement can be revoked and we go right back to... well to where we are right now. Who gives a ****. Worst case scenario is we go back to our current state.

2. How in the **** did you conclude that if we have inspectors in Iran then they could build a nuclear arsenal in 5 to 6 years, but they can't do that in the current scenario where we don't have any inspectors inside the country?

3. It's not nearly as easy as the average person would think to just move around the kind of equipment and materials needed to make a nuclear weapon. This takes huge amounts of people, effort, equipment, material etc. It would be like a factory or a chemical plant being moved to a new location in a weeks notice. It's not possible.

This goes to show you how dense conservatives are being on this issue. They actually prefer the scenario of us not having inspectors inside Iran rather than us actually having inspectors. Some how we are in less danger when we aren't keeping a close eye on them.

Worst case is we waste another several years and Iran has a nuke (National security director already says the have the ability) and either uses it then, or it triggers a nuclear arms race throughout the middle east.

Are you one of those people who thinks who is the US to tell Iran it can't have nukes?

Re: Obama Sends Iran a Nowruz Message, Calls Nuclear Talks a 'Historic Opportunity'

I'm perfectly happy with the tact that Obama is taking with Iran.

The majority of the world is able to work perfectly decently with Iran. As a German, for example, you can fly into Iran and live and work at the Iranian branch of Siemens or Krupp without any Iranian or German ever thinking twice.

Try wearing a cross, preaching any religion but Shia Islam, being openly gay, etc etc et al, but I guess that might be true for a German if that German is Bendikt Frings one of the heads of the National Democratic Party of Germany which is the largest neo-Nazi party of Germany who was personally invited by the Iranian Deputy Prime Minister of Islamic Guidance Mohammad Ali Ramin to the Iranian state sponsored holocaust denial conference. Anyone who is not Nazi swine on the other hand would feel quite uncomfortable there, maybe that's why you like it so much though.

It's a completely unremarkable situation, because believe it or not, Iran is a completely middle-of-the-road, 80 million pop country that falls into line with the expectations/problems we have with every other non-Western developing country.

Utter rubbish, aside from Saudi Arabia, North Korea, and a handful of other nations Iran is the most despotic oppressive regime on the planet. A nation run under an absolute theocracy which executes gays, calls for the destruction of other nation states, and whose leaders officially deny the holocaust, hold state sanctioned holocaust denial summits whose invited attendees include devout members of the KKK and avid neo-Nazi's, and call for the execution of authors is not middle of the road by any stretch of the imagination, by middle of the road non-Western developing nations one can look towards Indonesia, Turkey, India, the Philippines, South Africa, etc etc.

More absolute nonsense, I would think it has more to do with their official state motto being "death to America and Israel", and the fact that they have perpetrated numerous acts of war against the US and Israel, oh and FYI the overwhelming majority of the international community has a problem with Iran, they are a true pariah state:

Fair point. I guess the treaty has to be signed before we know what it's about..... what TRANSPARENCY though eh? Whoa.... that much TRANSPARENCY is making me dizzy. :lamo

Apparently treaties no longer need to be ratified by the Senate either.

Apparently they do not trust Iran to be honest about what their goals are, but they do trust Israel to keep on top of things. Considering that Iran is funding many terrorist organizations, they may have good cause to be alarmed!

There are several dozen Islamists who are the bigshots in that regime, and they are all more or less Khomeinists, thirty-five years after Khomeini founded the Islamic Republic. I have seen pictures of backhoes whose buckets were raised to full height and used to hang people from, the bodies suspended right there in the streets. In the protests of 2009, which Obama went out of his way to say nothing about, the regime's goons killed one young woman right on the sidewalk in Tehran, and dozens of others were arrested in various cities and taken to a couple secret lockups in Tehran that are really dungeons.

No one knows what happened to these people--they just disappeared, almost certainly murdered. A female reporter, originally from Iran but living abroad, went there to investigate a story and apparently was seized and murdered right in the hallway of a building on the university campus in Tehran. I saw film of the dried gore, with a student explaining what had happened there. I believe him. This same regime sent Hizballah jihadists all the way to Buenos Aires in 1992 to bomb the Israeli Embassy and a Jewish community center. Twenty-nine Jews were murdered by a car bomb at the embassy and eighty-seven more by a Lebanese suicide bomber at the community center. More than 350 people were injured.

These people are as evil as the Nazis were, and no one should be taken in by the fact many of them wear suits and ties and smile and speak English. Appearing moderate and reasonable is just one of their calculated deceptions. The whole history of this regime and its founder is rotten. In the late 1930's in Cairo, an exiled Iranian radical named Muhammad Navab-Safavi had met Hasan al-Banna, the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood, and been inspired to establish a terrorist group he called the "Fedayeen of Islam." Back in Iran during WWII, Navab-Safavi, after an unsuccessful try at forming a pro-Nazi terrorist group to murder British, met up with a young, violence-preaching cleric named Ruhollah Khomeini.

Khomeini had been denouncing a secular judge named Ahmad Kasravi, who had written several popular books criticizing the influence of Islam on Persia. He now used his religious authority to order Kasravi's assassination by Navab-Safavi's small group of "soldiers of Allah." And having been instructed by Navab-Safavi and Khomeini to use a blade in order to "shed the miscreant's blood," they did just that. Kasravi was the first of about a dozen people these jihadists murdered during the 1940's and 1950's, including a prime minister and a minister of education.

These are Khomeini's words:

"The sword is the key to paradise which can be opened only for holy warriors! There are thousands of other [Quranic] verses and hadiths urging Muslims to value war and to fight. Does all that mean that Islam is a religion that prevents men from waging war? I spit upon those foolish souls who make such a claim." ...................

"The great Prophet of Islam in one hand carried the Quran and in the other a sword; the sword for crushing the traitors and the Quran for guidance . . . Islam is a religion of blood for the infidels but a religion of guidance for other people." ..................

"f we kill infidels in order to put a stop to their [corrupting] activity, we have indeed done them a service. For their eventual punishment will be less . . . [To kill them] is a surgical operation commanded by Allah . . . War is a blessing for the world and for every nation. It is Allah himself who commands men to wage war and kill . . . it is war that purifies the earth . . . our young warriors know that to kill the infidels is one of the noblest missions Allah has reserved for mankind."

It is the followers of this degenerate bastard who are determined to get hold of atom bombs, and this sorry excuse for a president is quite willing to let them. Maybe they remind him of his Muslim father and Muslim step-father, or his Muslim college roommate.

 So dude, check your post for grammatical celerity. That would help, first. Otherwise, tell me Vic, what treaty would you enter with Iran? Or in your tiny view, is Obama the only one, or America generally the only one righteous enough to conclude a suitable settlement with this country, hmm?

Oh for Christ's sake!!!!

The ability to make treaties, agreements, or even nonbinding handshakes with foreign leaders has long rested with the White House — sometimes, but not always, with the consent of the Senate. But exactly what type of deal they cut is often dictated by political realities in Washington. And presidents stretching back to George Washington himself have grumbled about Senate obstruction in the process.

"Iran is a completely middle-of-the-road, 80 million pop country that falls into line with the expectations/problems we have with every other non-Western developing country."

And that would also be wildly incorrect. Being designated as the world's leading sponsor of terror isn't an expectation or problem found in your average non-Western country. This is simply a matter of fact.

None of them have repeatedly gone out of their way to attack US interests and their allies  It really is that simple.

Which doesn't quite account for the overwhelmingly negative attitudes towards Iran in Argentina, Japan, Portugal, South Africa and virtually every other country polled, does it?

In this country we have a little thing called 3 separate but equal branches of government, now I understand that as a Putin supporter you love fascist dictatorship as opposed to liberal democracy but here, in this country, we do not have a dictator and any treaty signed by the POTUS without first receiving the advice and consent of the Senate isn't worth the paper it's printed on. This line of argumentation is complete BS and how do we know it is BS? Because Obama's own Vice President Joe Biden has said as much:

Senators Joseph R. Biden Jr., Democrat of Delaware, and Jesse Helms, Republican of North Carolina, said an agreement on ''significant obligations by the United states regarding deployed U.S. strategic nuclear warheads'' would ''constitute a treaty subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.''

Their letter to Secretary of State Colin L. Powell was dated March 15, two days after President Bush expressed optimism that a deal on nuclear arms cuts would be ready for his meeting in May with President Vladimir V. Putin.

''With the exception of the SALT I agreement, every significant arms control agreement during the past three decades has been transmitted to the Senate pursuant to the Treaty Clause of the Constitution,'' the letter says. ''Mr. Secretary, we see no reason whatsoever to alter this practice.''

It's not that the terrorists are unaware of how the civilized world conducts itself - they've got the internet and phones and all the modern conveniences other parts of the world have, so they know. They have chosen to follow an evil path instead, wantonly and openly killing fellow human beings in the most nightmarish ways a perverted mind can conceive. Rivers of blood are their legacy.

There can be no negotiating with fanatics like this - they must be stopped or this planet is doomed. There is no middle ground here that I can see. In medicine, a cancerous tumor is removed to allow life to continue. The civilized world is not always right in the things they do, but anyone who thinks a barbarian way of ruling, using cruelty and terror to subjugate people, is what we should follow is totally wrong and not acceptable. This is not the world of Genghis Khan any longer - most of humanity has moved on since then.
