CARACAS, Venezuela — Just a few weeks ago, President Obama was being praised across Latin America for his decision to re-establish relations with Cuba, while President Nicolás Maduro of Venezuela appeared increasingly isolated — a wobbly, unpopular leader resorting to ever more aggressive tactics to confront an economic crisis and clamp down on the political opposition.

But with Mr. Obama’s declaration this week that Venezuela is an “extraordinary threat to the national security” of the United States, that dynamic may be coming undone.
With their economy screwed, opposition rising against the present govt, Obama approves this. Dumb move. Really dumb move.
How is Venezuela an extraordinary threat to the national security of the US?
If they were, why was it not done previously?

We still crave their oil. Probably happening now because the increased instability is threatening the oil deals.

Always a money motive behind things it sure seems.

 Pick up a paper the US is poised to be a net oil exporter, furthermore, with the drop in oil prices we could give a **** about Venezuela and without US purchasing said oil their economy would be in even bigger trouble than it already is.

The statement was made and sanctions passed because their President claimed to be taking US citizens captive and because they are arresting political dissidents.
