Emmy-Winning Mexican Univision host Fired Over Racist "Planet of Apes"=Michelle Obama

Re: Emmy-Winning Mexican Univision host Fired Over Racist "Planet of Apes"=Michelle O

See, the difference between some and I is likely that I'm not consumed by race. I can see a comment about Michelle Obama and not consider her race one bit. Others, on the other hand, must think race first and offense then becomes a reflex. I can take a joke or funny comment on face value - pun intended. But hey, if others need to dredge up every past offense and work them into today's discussion, that's their prerogative - I just won't play along.

In a recent film review [of an insignificant film I did not watch] the reviewer compared an actor, presumable white, to a rabid boar....as in swine, as in pig.

I don't know if anyone would call that racist.

My late wife could be a mean cat when assessing other women, part of the Asian culture she told me, and she said of one associate "she dresses like a monkey in heat", which we all found unabashedly hilarious as it was true. The other woman was also Asian, in fact likely from the same area of China as my wife. Would anyone find that racist before this?

Is the comment insulting to a first lady, yes. Is it a dismissible offense, presumably so, as it crossed a line, but to me it is not racist. Not if he is commenting on her fashion style

I know, right?

How can anyone think there's anything racist about saying that a black woman looks like an ape?

I guess you obviously can't help but think race because when you see a black woman your mind automatically thinks black and any discussion of that woman must be a discussion about the colour of her skin. I'm not built that way - I come from a culture - although geographically close, still light years away - that doesn't obsess about race. You'll never get beyond race because you're consumed by it. Hopefully, a younger generation of Americans will be able to get beyond it, but if voices like the ones here have their way, I doubt it.

Yes, one has to be consumed by race to think there's anything racist about comparing a black person to an ape.

Glad to see you acknowledge that fact. Acknowledging and accepting the weaknesses of your views is the first step in transforming them for the better.

Re: Emmy-Winning Mexican Univision host Fired Over Racist "Planet of Apes"=Michelle O

racist, non racist what the **** difference does it make.

as you pointed out, it IS the gutter, and then you want to mitigate it?

It's ugly, mean, and dirty, a new low set by DEMOCRATS.

own it
How is it a new low by Democrats?
I do not have to own anything - the person who made the comparision does and has.
People complain that the WH called- do they not have better things to do.
Why should she have to ignore it?

John, we are dealing with a massive cultural divide here.

In this country keeping comparative sports statistics based on race would be a crime, there would be protests to the heavens, public sector unions would go on strike. Have you noticed we don't use either 'black' or 'white'? We say "European" and "African-Canadian".

We are, I am told by visitors and new Canadians' the least racist country in the world. Just yesterday in a conversation with a long time friend who happens to be of Asian descent and I asked him "what differences do we have?" He thought for a moment and said "other than I'm smarter and better looking, nothing." It did not occur to him there was a racial difference.

So, I have had this discussion, on line and in person with my many friends across the line and found that the degree of difference is not only too wide in many cases, but widening.

My next effort will be to convince myself that there's nothing racist about singing a song about hanging a black man with my frat buddies.

You defend it.

The race card is meaningless.

The fact remains that the Obama democrats are the lowest, dirtiest political hacks I have seen in a democracy.

Have a nice day. We're done here

Re: Emmy-Winning Mexican Univision host Fired Over Racist "Planet of Apes"=Michelle O

Ya'll do know that Rush Limbaugh used to work for ESPN? Yeah, he used to work the live broadcast for the NFL games. Maybe Rush can hire the beaner out of sympathy for the cause.

Re: Emmy-Winning Mexican Univision host Fired Over Racist "Planet of Apes"=Michelle O

Saying Michelle Obama looks like she should be in the cast of Planet of the Apes is not racist. Saying all black women look like they should be in the cast of Planet of the Apes is racism. Lots of people have lost sight of the difference.

Keep digging that hole of denial. You excel at it.

Re: Emmy-Winning Mexican Univision host Fired Over Racist "Planet of Apes"=Michelle O

Good afternoon Rocket

Absolutely a nasty bit of work, but then he's identified as a "fashionista", someone who makes a living out of making outlandish statements about style and fashion and being highly critical and opinionated. He was likened to Joan River's Fashion Police and if you've ever seen that, you know it's bare knuckles assault in the crudest of terms - but funny because it's so outlandish.

And what do you think about the First Lady's office being so thin skinned and petty as to call the network to have him fired? Isn't that wrong as well?

Do we know they did that? I honestly haven't been following this very closely.

Re: Emmy-Winning Mexican Univision host Fired Over Racist "Planet of Apes"=Michelle O

There's nothing racist about saying a white person looks like a monkey

But it's wrong to say that if they really look like a dog

BAHAHAHAHA that's the exact thing that comes to my mind when looking at that guy as well. LOL :lamo

Calling a black woman an ape is comedy?

She does kinda look like that. bush also looked chimpish. why do you find one racist?

Re: Emmy-Winning Mexican Univision host Fired Over Racist "Planet of Apes"=Michelle O

The guy is described as a "fashionista". There's even reference to Fashion Police, Joan Rivers' RIP old show about famous people dressing outlandishly. I saw the show on a few occasions and it was a hoot but it was also vulgar and unyielding in ripping peoples' looks.

If this guy is a news anchor, you might have a point, but seriously??

This guy is unemployed. He opened his mouth before he turned his brain on and that got him canned.

They lose it on purpose to call others racist.

Michelle Obama Got Me Fired

The Univision talk show host canned for racist remarks about Michelle Obama says the pink slip was generated from the First Lady's Office.
Rodner Figueroa's team tells TMZ ... no one from the station or social media uttered a peep when he said Wednesday morning that a makeup artist who transformed himself into Michelle Obama, looked like a member of the "Planet of the Apes" cast.

The team claims at 10:20 PM Wednesday they got a call from a Univision exec who said Michelle Obama's office called the network to complain.

Re: Emmy-Winning Mexican Univision host Fired Over Racist "Planet of Apes"=Michelle O

So a monkey is only offensive when it's being compared to a black person, but not a white person. Why is that? Monkeys are fine comparisons some of the time but bad some of the time. If a monkey comparison isn't offensive, then it isn't offensive. If it is offensive, then it is.

So which is it?

It all depends on the total situation.

Re: Emmy-Winning Mexican Univision host Fired Over Racist "Planet of Apes"=Michelle O

It all depends on the total situation.

You mean there isn't a simple rule for distinguishing racist remarks from non-racist remarks?

No wonder the right wingers are having so much trouble

Re: Emmy-Winning Mexican Univision host Fired Over Racist "Planet of Apes"=Michelle O

Well it was his employer's call to fire him just like it was OU's call to expel those SAE fraternity chanters. It was their prerogative and I got no problem with that.

Re: Emmy-Winning Mexican Univision host Fired Over Racist "Planet of Apes"=Michelle O

It all depends on the total situation.

So it's okay to say Bush looks like a monkey but not Michelle Obama. Is that because you think all monkeys are - what - black? Or because you think that black people look like monkeys? I always thought we white people resembled our simian cousins too, but apparently not.

Confusing to say the least.

Re: Emmy-Winning Mexican Univision host Fired Over Racist "Planet of Apes"=Michelle O

So he said she looks like the cast of that movie because she's black? I didn't see that. I see him saying that because of her face. Same as was said about Bush. But it's okay to say it about Bush.

By the way, those 3 apes in that picture, who were all central characters in the movie, look more like Bush than Michelle Obama. They aren't black. They're all blonde.

What does Bush have to do with this thread?
