Emmy-Winning Mexican Univision host Fired Over Racist "Planet of Apes"=Michelle Obama

Re: Emmy-Winning Mexican Univision host Fired Over Racist "Planet of Apes"=Michelle O

Ah.. Yes, no one could possibly have a black friend.

Lots of people have black friends.

This doesn't change my skepticism of your post.

Re: Emmy-Winning Mexican Univision host Fired Over Racist "Planet of Apes"=Michelle O

Don't be silly

Everyone has a black friend that compares Michelle to The Grinch, or an ape.

Don't know about everyone, but I certainly do.

Re: Emmy-Winning Mexican Univision host Fired Over Racist "Planet of Apes"=Michelle O

You mean whore as in "loose woman" or did they call her a media-whore, something that just says something about the willingness of someone to get on TV/in the news.

And racist comments are something completely different than just offensive remarks IMHO.

"whore" as in ****ing for money...along with slut on more than one occasion.

We can disagree politically but when you attack a person's character, you climb into the sewer. That's a place that's hard to get out of

Re: Emmy-Winning Mexican Univision host Fired Over Racist "Planet of Apes"=Michelle O

How about MILF - that seems to describe her well in some liberal quarters.

So the designation that even some democrats find her sexually attractive? She is a mother and a mother some people think looks like a hot mom. Sorry, but that is not a similar to whore in any way shape or form nor is it particularly offensive or racially insulting.

Univision Host
Michelle Obama Got Me Fired

The Univision talk show host canned for racist remarks about Michelle Obama says the pink slip was generated from the First Lady's Office.
Rodner Figueroa's team tells TMZ ... no one from the station or social media uttered a peep when he said Wednesday morning that a makeup artist who transformed himself into Michelle Obama, looked like a member of the "Planet of the Apes" cast.

The team claims at 10:20 PM Wednesday they got a call from a Univision exec who said Michelle Obama's office called the network to complain.

Yes, that is disgusting, but saying someone is whoring for money (however I detest that statement that indeed has been used in the media) is not the sewer location that "looks like a monkey" is for a the first lade of the USA. Or the same as calling Fluke a slut of wanting birth control, that is worse than calling someone "whoring for money" even though I as said despise that use of the word too. They could have used a much more civil comment than that one. I agree.

Re: Emmy-Winning Mexican Univision host Fired Over Racist "Planet of Apes"=Michelle O

There's a difference between saying someone is ugly and comparing a black person to an ape

And you know it

I know the little prick said Michelle "looks like she should be a cast member on Planet of the Apes" - he didn't compare a black person to an ape.

And you know it

Re: Emmy-Winning Mexican Univision host Fired Over Racist "Planet of Apes"=Michelle O

It's amusing because the Mexican guy is gay.

I suspect what happened here are two things really behind the scenes:

1st and most importantly, Univision clearly wanted this guy gone for some reason (likely bc he's gay, Mexican culture is radically conservative). The two colleagues on set with him were all too happy to throw him under the bus on air.

2nd US media and likely Michelle Obama who made the call for him to be fired were likely clueless who he even was.

Either way it's great drama haha. Little Gay Mexican guy is racist to Michelle Obama and Univision Mexican anti gay faction finally gets to throw him under the bus. Hilarious. You could tell the fat on air Univision host loved it too. He was smiling lol. Knew it was over for Mr. Gay Mexican.

Dear First Lady Michelle Obama,
I offer my sincerest apologies for a comment that I made about the characterization from a make-up artist that I made about you in the Univision entertainment program El Gordo y La Flaca.
I want to make it clear that I'm not racist and it was directed personally to you, but to the characterization of the artist, that left a lot to be desired. The clip in full context is proof.
I feel embarrased, I ask for forgiveness, because there is no excuse for a professional like me to make those types of comments that can be interpreted as offensive and racist in a volatile moment that we live in our country.
I take responsibility for this lack of judgement in my part, but I can't accept that I am being called a racist and being fired for that reason and being humiliated by Univision after working there for 17 years. I come from a bi-racial Latin family, with family members, like my father, who is Afro-Latino.
I am the first presenter on Hispanic TV that is openly gay and I am an activist for causes that favor minorities, that have been discriminated against just like me. I openly voted twice for your husband Barack Obama, because I consider him a great man that respects minorities, like me, in this country.
I worked on two Univision shows where I commented about celebrity style, including the real family and Latin first ladies and I have never offended anybody because of their skin color, sexual orientation or nationality. I am a decent person, but a human in the end that makes mistakes like this one.
Although the comment was unpleasant and out of line I do not deserved being called a racist and I have to defend myself for respect and love to my family, my father, my fans and my community.
I was notified verbally that due to a complaint from your office I was fired. An information leak from Univision executives, I was condemend in social media, trying to destroy my career in an unfair manner, without letting me know personally and without an investigation that would allow to clear up the situation.
Again, I offer my humble forgiveness for the misinterpreation and I assume the responsibility.
Yours respectfully,
Rodner Figueroa

Well, no, there is no context for calling someone a monkey/saying someone looks like a monkey (when that person is black and the first lade of America).

But it's okay to say someone looks like a monkey as long as that person is white, right?

That is comparing her to an ape. And you know that.

Disingenuity doesn't suit you, CJ. You're too intelligent for that.

There's nothing racist about saying a white person looks like a monkey

But it's wrong to say that if they really look like a dog

It is kind of ironic. Mexico is one of the most racist countries on the planet. The spaniard descent mexicans think the native descent mexicans (people of the north) are walking inhuman scum bags.

The person who made the comments isn't Mexican. He's Venezuelan.

not sure that happens that much?

Re: Emmy-Winning Mexican Univision host Fired Over Racist "Planet of Apes"=Michelle O

It happened with Bush.

But that had nothing to do with the color of his skin but with the weird faces he pulls/pulled. It had nothing to do with racism and it is not comparable to what happened with Michelle Obama.

So a monkey is only offensive when it's being compared to a black person, but not a white person. Why is that? Monkeys are fine comparisons some of the time but bad some of the time. If a monkey comparison isn't offensive, then it isn't offensive. If it is offensive, then it is.

So which is it?

Re: Emmy-Winning Mexican Univision host Fired Over Racist "Planet of Apes"=Michelle O

By the way, didn't this guy bring in the POTA cast comment based on images he put up about Michelle's face? Not her skin color?

Oh the irony.. Pffft. Pretty sure Figueroa, an Afro-Latino descendant, wouldn't exactly be considered "Thor material" in many parts of the world. :lamo

Univision Host Rodner Figueroa Fired Over Racist 'Planet Of The Apes' Comment Towards Michelle Obama (UPDATED)

[h=1]Univision Host Rodner Figueroa Fired Over Racist 'Planet Of The Apes' Comment Towards Michelle Obama[/h]Univision host Rodner Figueroa was fired Wednesday after comparing first lady Michelle Obama's appearance to that of someone from the cast of the "Planet of the Apes."The Emmy-winning host was dismissed over the racist remark said during his live segment on the entertainment news show "El Gordo Y La Flaca," HuffPost Voces first reported. Univision confirmed the news via e-mail earlier today.Figueroa's comment came while talking about make-up artist Paolo Ballesteros' viral undertaking of transforming himself into female celebrities. The fashionista, known for his critical "Fashion Police"-style remarks, analyzed Ballesteros' transformation for Michelle Obama with an original photo of the first lady beside it."Mind you, you know that Michelle Obama looks like she's part of the cast of "Planet of the Apes," the film," Figueroa said.Host Raúl de Molina attempted to counter the comment saying he thought Obama was very attractive. The show aired live on the East Coast and was edited for the West Coast. In addition to his appearances in "El Gordo Y La Flaca," Figueroa co-hosted the evening gossip show "Sal Y Pimienta." By Wednesday night, several sources informed HuffPost Voces of Figueroa's dismissal from Univision and the network had already taken down photos of the host from the shows' web pages.
Why is that statement racist? Clearly its not very flattering, but racist? Is it racist to refer to whites as Neanderthals?

Context matters.

Yes, actually, comparing a black person to a monkey has different connotations than comparing a white person to a monkey. Because history. Similarly, a white person calling a black person "nigger" has different connotations than a black person doing it. Context matters.

Is it limited to monkeys, or does comparing someone to fruit count too?

Yes, why would a racist remark aimed at a persons color of skin be racist by comparing them to a monkey. Sorry, but you do not making any sense to me with your comparison with Bush. Sorry, but you can think it is offensive when someone has a weird sense of humor is your point of view, but it does not come close to a racist comment. The Bush comparison had nothing to do with racism but only with a weird sense of political humor.

It only matters if that person is black and the First Lady of America to those who are politically correct and who abhor any negativity directed at those they support.

He said she looked like she should be a member of the cast of Planet of the Apes. Perhaps he thought she looked like Charlton Heston - would that be okay?

Yeah, I don't get it. Humans share a common ancestor in apes, so I don't understand how only monkeys is a racist slam on blacks. Monkeys come in all shapes and colors.

I have dark skin, but I'm not black, so does that mean its racist if someone calls me a monkey?
