They look very happy in their pictures, good for them.

Also it's not really a 'marriage' that would be recognized legally, it was a Buddhist ceremony.

ROTFLOL... how long until this "right" is bestowed on US citizens?

Oughta be a field day for divorce lawyers.

Will it be limited to only homosexuals? LOL...
LOL, you don't know anything about Thailand, ROTFLOL.

What most Western social conservatives don't know, is that Thailand does not have a tradition of two-parent families, or even an idea of two-genders.

Traditionally, and what's still adhered to in the rural parts of the country, marriages (and fidelity) aren't that important. Your own extended family is the most important, and family is matrilineal with the exception of those minorities with Chinese or Tibetan heritage. Love and marriage are not romantic. The husband most often goes to live with the wife and her several generations of her family; while her priorities are in the order of most to least important: her family, herself, her children, and then her husband and his family. When the couple does leave the wife's parental home, it's often to a piece of land that is in the immediate vicinity. Today that tradition is still a very strong influence even in the urban, cosmopolitan areas of Thailand, but there's more flexibility of which family the couple chooses to live with.

Next up, gender is fluid and there's more than two-genders. There's three-genders (phet-thi-sam) and four different sexualities. The Thai do not even bat an eye at kathoey, or sao praphet song.

Finally in the patrilinial spheres of Thailand (the Chinese/Tibetan/Burma heritages), polygamy is widely practiced. The second wife is called Mia Noi (or Pua Noi for polyandry). The practice was only banned in 2010, which means that it's still very common and still widely practiced.

Fine and dandy, but tell that to The Daily Mail who ran this under the title:
Three men have tied the knot in world's first three-way same-sex marriage

Oh, I'm shocked that the Daily Mail got it wrong. They've always had a high and strict standard of truthfully "reporting" the finest, newsworthy garbage.

And btw... did I claim to know anything about Thailand? No.

I've done business there, family has done business there, but I'll admit, aside from Tom Ka Gai and Singha Jai and Lek, and a morning shot of Mekong for medicinal purposes... I don't know much about Thailand.

Wasn't near a toursit trap, but south near the Burmese border, along the coast... Nice people, beautiful place. Look forward to going back.

Okay, but then why do same-sex couples not have the same legal benefits/protections as opposite sex couples in Thailand?

??? What's the issue here? Polygamy is legal in many countries.

Re: They look like a new boy band... but it's the world's first THREE-WAY same-sex ma

Why in the **** would anyone want additional spouses? I could barely put up with one.

You mean like the polygamous Mormons did for years in the U.S.? You sound like you never heard of this before. Whether it's right or wrong, polygamy is hardly new in the world or in this country. Polygamy is currently against the law in the U.S. Polygamy is a different issue from monogamy.

Thailand doesn't really have legal benefits/protections for married couples ... at least, no where near to the degree that the US and other advanced economies do.

Or, to put it another way, Thailand has been ruled by 20+ different political regimes and 20+ different Constitutions since the 1930s. There's been two coups in the past decade alone.

There is no in-depth marriage laws.

There is zero evidence it will be. Instead of laughing, you probably should be studying on the legal issues regarding SSM and polygamy. You might learn something.

No evidence... LOL... same sex marriage anyone. 15-years ago people were laughing at the possibility.

Well, not educated people on the legal issues at hand. They where setting up the arguments that are being made today that you do not understand.

On what grounds are you objecting to polygamy? (If you are)

It makes him feel icky.

Jesus hates polywogs!

Re: They look like a new boy band... but it's the world's first THREE-WAY same-sex ma

Thailand doesn't really have legal benefits/protections for married couples ... at least, no where near to the degree that the US and other advanced economies do.

So the question is why do we think having all these benefits for married couples are a good idea.

Now that is an unchristian thing to do.

Well it is rather absurd to have chosen such a bad second best solution.

Re: They look like a new boy band... but it's the world's first THREE-WAY same-sex ma

Don't care, people should be able to marry as many people of any sex they want.

Where was that question asked?

Well, that's the thing. They should be allowed. They just shouldn't expect the state to recognise it. The Thai example shows that marriage can exist within a religious setting and not conflict with a legal definition of the word. They were married under Buddhist law. The state didn't have to recognize it. In the US what people are asking is for the state to recognize gay marriage, not that the churches recognize it.

I'm fine with that as well. I also am of the strong opinion that the government should be out of the marriage business all together.
