When Curt Schilling’s daughter was sexually threatened on social media by horrendous Twitter trolls following her father’s congratulatory tweet about her admission to Salve Regina University, the World Series Champion wasted little time in going into attack mode.
Just like his playing days, Schilling quickly developed an aggressive strategy and, if he’s right, the result will be the same as so many batters who entered the box against him: The guys who made sexually explicit and aggressive references about Gabby Schilling will be out. In two cases, they already are.
In a telephone interview with USA TODAY Sports on Tuesday, Schilling spoke candidly about his initial reaction to the vile tweets. In particular, he focused on two strings of tweets that were sent by two men: A New York Yankees part-time ticket sales employee that Schilling identified through internet search as Sean MacDonald and a DJ at Brookdale Community College in New Jersey identified by Schilling as Adam Nagel. Since Schilling first outed the duo on his personal blog, 38Pitches, Nagel has been suspended from Brookdale Community College and MacDonald has been fired by the Yankees, according to NJ.com. Neither man is using the Twitter account from which they sent the messages to Schilling.

Good for Curt Schilling. He tracked these scum down and outed them resulting in one being fired and the other being suspended from school.

They were saying the most vile things about a young girl that didn't deserve this treatment.

If you want to see what they were tweeting, you can find it on Schilling's blog, 38 Pitches.

Those Braves fans sure can carry a grudge...

True, but in this case I think they were diehard Yankee fans.

Re: Curt Schilling on vile tweets to daughter: 'This wasn't a mistake. This is a crim

I am curious as to how he was able to track them down since they were using anonymous accounts

I'd rather watch golf. ;)

There are many ways to find people on the Internet if you have a few resources.

What a ****ing disturbing story.

I'm glad the jerkoffs who did that wee caught and suspended. What is wrong with people? It's bad enough to think **** like that, but then to put it in writing...on the internet? Stupidity isn't a crime, but it should be. I'm going to guess those idiots will be a little more careful what they Tweet (Twit? WTF is the correct verb?) in the future.

"I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills, skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you." - Curt Schilling

Millions of dollars buys a lot of IT skill.

cute

right out of taken

love it

and i love that Curt Schilling put a few trolls in their place

The internet may be nearly anonymous, but if you get too vile, or crazy, there are ways to find out who you are

Re: Curt Schilling on vile tweets to daughter: 'This wasn't a mistake. This is a crim

Shilling needs to grow a thicker skin.

I agree. When vile Facebook posts have the power to cause someone to take their life, this whole Tweet, Facebook, etc., BS needs to be put in some different perspective.

I find the whole thing completely lame, but I understand some people like the connectivity these sites provide.

Grow a thicker skin. It's just words on a page from pathetic losers. The world is full of them.

Sometimes you need to smack the pathetic losers hard, especially when the pathetic losers are targeting your children.

So if some d-bag made vile comments to your wife would you turn to your wife and tell her to grow thicker skin or would you put a fist in the loser's teeth?

I agree with that also. However, I think the whole Facebook/Tweet thing is pathetic itself. There are scumbags out in the world who received the greatest gift when they could bully people anonymously. The greater lesson is to either avoid these sites altogether, or to grow thicker skin. There is no protection from scumbags on these sites.

On twitter? I would tell her to close her twitter account. Remind her that we are famous (relatively) and learn that haters gonna hate.

I would let my wife handle it, if it was in front of her. If not, walk away. They are the ones lowering themselves and I choose not to get in the guttter with them. Words don't really matter.

Touch one of my daughters....? There will be blood.

Re: Curt Schilling on vile tweets to daughter: 'This wasn't a mistake. This is a crim

I agree this nonsense is criminal. But Schilling is still a bleeding brainless starfish.

actually the lesson is that you may think you are posting, or tweeting in anonymity, but hiding in your basement, and throwing out vile remarks to people, sometimes will have repercussions

just being a troll and an ass because you think you are safe.....well, maybe not so much

and if it shuts a few up, or makes a few think before hitting the word send, the world just became a little bit better today

yes...we live in a free society, and you have the right of free speech

but that doesnt mean you cant be held liable, or culpable for what you say or post

I'm all for eye for an eye. I think exposing these little pukes is great. The better the complete public humiliation, the better. With Schillings money, I'd probably do billboards.

I guess I'm more referencing the whole social media thing. It is astounding to me that people would view what is posted as sufficiently relevant they would take their own life over comments someone would post against them.

Re: Curt Schilling on vile tweets to daughter: 'This wasn't a mistake. This is a crim

I think he needed to do this.

I understand they were only words on Twitter, but sometimes people take things too far and he identified at least two of the culprits, so if anything does happen to his daughter, they know who to look at.

social bullying on social sites has become one of the biggest issues our kids face

not only do they have to deal with the same bullies everyone dealt with growing up....but now they have to deal with the anonymous tweeters, and posters who love to hate

unless you want your kids growing up in a cocoon, it is something every parent has to deal with

i love that some of these people will be outed....and ridiculed and punished by family, friends, jobs, schools, etc

for some reason too many believe causing pain to others on these sites is "fun"

i want to take the fun out of it entirely.....and i want them to think about what happens if they get busted for posting the vile, vicious crap they post

Or to expose them and get them fired... that is my #1

Re: Curt Schilling on vile tweets to daughter: 'This wasn't a mistake. This is a crim

That too! :yt

The best part of this is he has only outed two of many. Now every sum'bich who thought it would be cool to flex their anonymity muscles on a teenage girl are crapping their pants not knowing if they are the next target.

This makes me smile.

I wondered that too. The article said he just did a simple internet search. But after I saw the tweets it was easy to see how he tracked them down because they left a lot of clues. And I must say...the sicko's deserved to be punished.
