BLOOMFIELD, N.J. — On Monday morning, a few hundred students will file into classrooms at Bloomfield Middle School, open laptops and begin a new standardized test, one mandated across New Jersey and several other states for the first time this year.

About a dozen of their classmates, however, will be elsewhere. They will sit in a nearby art room, where they will read books, do a little drawing and maybe paint.

I am sure there is a way that it can be done beneficially, but I haven't been happy with what I have seen from "teaching to the test".

I don't think it should be possible to teach to the test, I think that every single student in the room ought to be given a different test with different, but equivalent, questions and the only way to get a decent score is to actually know the material. There's no way to cheat because there's no way to know exactly what version of the test you'll get before you sit down.

It's not the basics, the basics of all these ideas sound sweet, Obamacare, Iran Deal, "Net Neutrality" Common Core. All look sweet, it's packaging to get past the easily distracted public. It's all the baggage and control of the education system, a one size fits all with no accountability and questionable, to say the least teaching methods.
