[R.I.P.] Leonard Nimoy, 'Star Trek's' Spock, dead at 83

Gene Roddenberry.

*Gina-nerd Trekkie in her youth, still have my Spock action figure (along with others) in a treasure box*

The fourth movie, The Voyage Home, Spock's use of "colorful metaphors" was a crack up.

Greetings, Gina. :2wave:

One of the episodes that I have never forgotten was when Kirk went to Vulcan to fight on Spock's behalf. We got to see Spock's home planet, and meet other Vulcans, and the actress who played TPau was superb, IMO. One of my favorite episodes!

My all time favorite was Balance of Terror, the episode based on the film The Enemy Below.

I am actually OK with this despite being a trekky. By the time people reach 70s/80s I am not too surprised. Plus I was well aware that he was having health issues after being hospitalized a couple of months ago. For some reason Robin Williams Death affected me much more. Nimoy lived a long and healthy life and always had a smile on his face.

The thing with Robin Williams is that, I've not watched any recent movies or seen him much in a long time. I mean, I know he did a lot of movies (several of which are still being released oddly enough) but I don't know, it wasn't the same. I think it more the shock of it in that situation, that he committed suicide, whereas with Nimoy, it's just mourning.

I too am curious. I think much of the ill will towards Shatner is due to his past pompous behavior. For instance, he was strongly opposed to Takei taking the role as Captain of the Enterprise that caused a lot of bitter feelings. But more importantly, there was the fact that Shatner didn't attend the funeral for the creator of Star Trek (name escapes me at the moment).

I hate the new movies.... but I will say he was the best part of them for me.

Those are some of the detailed criticisms. His pompous behavior in real life is more important. But there comes a time in all actors lives when they need to get out of the limelight.

I hold him in contrast to Richard Dreyfuss, who has somewhat of, in my opinion, an unearned reputation for "having airs", the worst of Canadian sins. Dreyfuss has never forgotten his roots in Jewish Montreal, where Shatner on the other hand hides his middle class Montreal roots. Unlike Shat, Dreyfuss absents himself from the limelight; then we look forward to him showing up in films like RED.

But in the acting category, none represents an ideal of my country better than Christopher Plummer, he's the "oh yeah, that guy" who's villain makes a picture like Inside Man, or his romantic old fool in Must Love Dogs. A highly successful actor for 56 years and counting, a man of class and dignity who requires no fan club.

Captain von Trapp.

Hi Lady P!

Yes! That is another of my faves, "Amok Time" *. Spock was in a "fever", so to speak. ;) I can't remember what it was called (without looking it up), but it happened every 7 years. She was excellent!

*I think and again, way too nerdy to remember such things.

Wasn't it Pon Far (sp?) As I remember his blood boiled with lust.... so un-Spock-like.

There have been tv roles before that one cannot think how anyone else can play that character other than the original actor. I would put Spock as one that was custom fit for Nimoy.

Just try and imagine if the roles were reversed for Nimoy and Shatner. Doesn't work.

^5! Yes, that's it! I had to look it up, or be driven crazy. LOL

Very un-Spock-like and poor, poor Nurse Chapel. Pining away. ;)

He had a long run and many fans....RIP

At lunch Nimoy's last Tweet was read aloud, and we toasted him with Chardonnay.

If it wouldn't be too nosy, what Lunch were you at that you were toasting with Chardonnay?

I had to go to Wiki to refresh memory of that episode. :slapme: I liked the Romulan Commander's verbal salute to Kirk! Touching last words between equals....

RIP Mr. Spock. Thanks for the memories.

The original film (Robert Mitchum & Kurt Jurgens) was a favorite as well.

Never even knew he was Canadian, but I guess that kind of proves your point doesn't it?

I'm very sad. Spock was a hero of my childhood. I had such a crush on him! He sexified Vulcanism. RIP, Leonard. You may be gone, but you will not be forgotten by the millions of fans who love you. :(

I had the chance to see him live at my first convention back in 2010.

Was truly an honor.

He was just a great human being all around and the world is a lesser place without him.
