Leonard Nimoy, 'Star Trek's' Spock, dead at 83

First off, I apologize if this has been posted someone. I looked around but didn't find a thread, so I thought I should put this up. Kind of surprised actually it hadn't been put up as yet. Nimoy is probably the first actor, or famous person really, that has passed away that I really cared anything about. That's not the say that just as big or bigger icons haven't passed away in my lifetime, just none that I took an interest in. Thought I'd share his last tweet he sent out just a few days ago:

Leonard Nimoy said:
A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. LLAP

At this moment, #RIPLeonardNimoy is the #2 Trending Topic worldwide, so I guess I'm not the only one that's sad that he's gone.

I feel bad for my girlfriend though. You see, when I looked at her all dejected and told her he died, she didn't even know who he was. I just turned around and walked away, feeling even more sad, which got her upset because she wanted me to tell her about him. What do I even say to her at this point you know?

RIP, Leonard Nimoy. I'd like to see the headstone have a one word inscription: "Fascinating."

He was an icon of my youth, a really cool dude, and will be much missed.

I am glad he did live long and prospered.

I was 7 years old when Star Trek came on. We watched it on an RCA Victor black and white TV. I think we watched it every week when it came on, and continued watching it after syndication.

Just have her watch some Star Trek TOS (TV and/or movie) DVDs - I think she'll understand.

You wanna know the most amazing, and perhaps blasphemous things? I never watched TOS myself. It was something that I always intended to but, just never did. What I knew him from was more so the movies and his appearances on various shows as a cameo. With his passing though, I think I might go back and watch them. I saw that recently they did some serious updating to the old show (technologically speaking).

Greetings, Hamster Buddha. :2wave:

"Live long and prosper." The series would not have been the same without Spock. Captain Kirk - aka William Shatner - was in Cleveland this past weekend for a Wizard World Comic Con benefit, and he drew a huge crowd that waited in long lines and paid to have a photo taken with him, but I believe Spock would have beaten his attendance record. Even though the original series aired in the late sixties, even teenagers today know who Spock is, but I wonder how many could tell you who was POTUS in those years!

R.I.P. Leonard Nimoy, and condolences to his family and friends. He is a legend.

I have met Shatner.

It is one Canadian of whom I am not proud

Live long and prosper.

The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one.

That's highly illogical...

Yep, and the new movies are fantastic too.

RIP Leonard Nimoy.

Why not. if I may ask?

I have met Shatner.

I too am curious. I think much of the ill will towards Shatner is due to his past pompous behavior. For instance, he was strongly opposed to Takei taking the role as Captain of the Enterprise that caused a lot of bitter feelings. But more importantly, there was the fact that Shatner didn't attend the funeral for the creator of Star Trek (name escapes me at the moment).

Yep, and the new movies are fantastic too.

RIP Leonard Nimoy.

I hate the new movies.... but I will say he was the best part of them for me.

That is still one of my favorite episodes. I loved the evil, clever Spock.

He was also in the original Mission Impossible series:

RIP Leonard. Words fail me at this point.
