Isis fighters Destroy Ancient Artefacts at Mosul museum

Re: ISIS fighters Destroy Ancient Artefacts at Mosul museum

Yeah Saddam was such a nice person. Y'know, when he wasn't being too busy with torturing little children and all.

Saddam was a brutal despot, but he was a secularist and had this Islamic fundamentalist insanity under control until the U.S interfered.

He wasn't much better-but we got rid of him. This president directly contributed to the rise of ISIS by losing the peace in Iraq.

Re: ISIS fighters Destroy Ancient Artefacts at Mosul museum

That's right!
Blame it on America.. and the Buddhas al-Qaeda destroyed too.
And the perennial Destruction of Jewish Artefacts near the Temple mount and ie, Jew's Third Holeist Place, Joseph's Tomb, too.

Of course, destruction of other's artefacts is a 1400 year old Tradition in Islam.

I don't have to blame anything. Are you denying the loss of antiquities in Iraq as a result of Bush's 2003 invasion and occupation of that country, hmm?

Just like Assad had it under control over there in Syria until those Americans intervened eh?
And what kind of logic is there in advocating one type of crazy over the other? Saddam had tormented far more souls than ISIS did so far.

You keep repeating this without any evidence. Can you show us what made Iraq peaceful in 2008? :) I'll wait.

Re: ISIS fighters Destroy Ancient Artefacts at Mosul museum

Yes, I saw this on my local news!

This is an outrage!!! Such a deep provocation!!

Bunch of zombified idiots with hammers destroying human icons that are of thousands of years because "God told them to!" I am disgusted and outraged beyond belief!

What is taking the anti ISIS campaign so long!!!

No, Saddam was not a secularist. His Bath party was a type of Islamic religion that victimized other kinds of Islamic religion in Iraq and made their lives miserable enough such as what we now see with ISIS.

Yes, were you "outraged" as looters followed Western troops around Iraq stealing and destroying antiquities left unsecured by single minded regime change policy in 2003????

I will leave my comment on looters ruining antiquities behind "Western troops" in its appropriate thread. Do not hijack this or any other thread or you will be reported!

We have a lead from behind POTUS. Thats why its taking so long.

You are being too hard upon yourselves. This is not only a US problem. ISIS seems to want to clear nations of its histories and conquer them in the medieval way. No one is taking them seriously but otherwise they are everyone's problem.

We are taking them seriously-we are sending troops and striking them. They are in all 50 US states.
Our president explains the delay.

Oh for Pete's sake, be a tattle tale if it makes you feel better. Now then, does all destruction of antiquities outrage you, or just when the Islamic State does it?

Re: ISIS fighters Destroy Ancient Artefacts at Mosul museum

You're painting with too broad of a brush, IMO. Religion is great for some people.

And civilization as well.

wont go over well,in iraq many us soldiers used to like being stationed near a zigurat, because the locals wouldnt attack, even though they were from older religions, the raqi's had both fear and respect for them, and believed doing anything ill towards those ancient sites and artifacts was really bad karma.

Re: ISIS fighters Destroy Ancient Artefacts at Mosul museum

The destruction of ancient artifacts in Iraq would never have happened had Saddam Hussein still been president of that unfortunate country. Thank GW Bush and the Neocons for unleashing the dogs of hell!

ISIS is more the result of the Arab Spring and the civil war in Syria, not the Iraq war.

Again, my personal position is irrelevant to the topic on this thread. Keep away from the ad hominem logical fallacy and stay on topic please.

Ok, apparently it's only when the Islamic State destroys antiquities that you're outraged.

No matter my personal "outrage" the antiquities are destroyed by ISIS nevertheless.

News that Islamic State fighters had Bulldozed and vandalized the ancient city of Nimrud in northern Iraq provoked outrage on Friday, as archaeologists despaired that the militant group was Systematically Destroying priceless antiquities in a Birthplace of Civilization.

Islamic religious scholars joined common cause with governments, museums and other international preservationists to denounce what they described as an odious affront.

Al-Azhar, Sunni Islam’s leading authority, based in Cairo, called the destruction “a major crime against the entire world.”

The top cultural official at the United Nations called the destruction a war crime that should be taken up by the International Criminal Court, and she vowed to do “whatever is needed” to stop the plundering by the Islamic State, also known as ISIS and ISIL.

“This is yet another attack against the Iraqi people, reminding us that nothing is safe from the cultural cleansing underway in the country,” said the official, Irina Bokova, who is director general of Unesco, the United Nations organization for education, science and culture.

Bumping up your thread Mbig. :2bump: They struck again.

Iraqi officials in the northern city of Mosul said Saturday that militants with the Islamic State group have begun demolishing the ancient archaeological site of Hatra in northern Iraq in a push to rid its territory of symbols it says promote idolatry.

Hatra, located 110 kilometers (68 miles) southwest of the city of Mosul, was a large fortified city during the Parthian Empire and capital of the first Arab kingdom. The ancient city, a UNESCO world heritage site, is said to have withstood invasions by the Romans in A.D. 116 and 198 thanks to its high, thick walls reinforced by towers.....snip~

IS destroying another ancient archaeological site in Iraq

Re: ISIS fighters Destroy Ancient Artefacts at Mosul museum

We need to send ground troops into Iraq NOW and put a stop to this **** before ISIS completely destroys Iraq's historical legacy.

If only President "They're a JV Team" Obama had taken the ISIS threat seriously before it got too much out of hand, this wouldn't have happened.
Good job, President Blunder!
