Live feed to the FCC vote on Net Neutrality.

maybe we all should be taxed for it if we use the internet or not so everyone is equal... wait that sounds familiar..

How long should I hold onto some of the comments in this thread predicting regulation of this site before I can bring them back up and show them to the chicken littles?

explain how todays decison helps our freedoms to chose what services we want have..

why should it be equal? this sounds a lot like Obamacare

Today's decision was meant to keep the status quo. If you're happy with the way the internet is now, you should be happy with today's decision.

Because all corporations are evil and all government is good?

We don't even know what got voted on today except that it is a huge piece of regulation of an industry that has absolutely exploded over the past two decades primarily because it was free and relatively unregulated. We also know that the reason given for the "need" to regulate it was, specifically, that freedom which had allowed it to expand.

Why is it that liberals hate freedom so much?

that was my major question

we know the fcc was proposing new rules

yet, they kept it all very secret until todays vote

why?

what is in there that they didnt want the public to know about?

and why werent the proposed changes up for debate to the general public before voting?

is this another "we have to pass it to find out what is in it" kind of bill?

god, i hope not

thats not true.. this opens the door for endless regulation and different pricing and usage that was free in the past to be chargable..

again.. why it better?

sure... its called symantics.. and not getting what you want ...

No, that's not semantics. That's substantive. Net neutrality specifically prohibits what you just predicted.

if my car is slow, I dont think thats fair.. I think everyone elses car needs to made slower to match mine.. its not fair others can afford a faster car and can pay for that..

wrong..just like Obamacare is going to save us money and we keep our dr..

tell me again why it neeed to be "fixed"

Politics is so strong in this country nowadays, it's become almost like a religion. Even on an issue like this the opinions are split right along party lines. I never thought I'd see the day where any person who's ever had to deal with a cable company, or Verizon and ATT would ever defend them. It's amazing that anyone would trust those companies. Especially Comcast and TW. There's no bigger scum bags in the world then those 2 companies. They are the worse, and have been for decades.

Net neutrality allows the little guy to be on equal footing with the giant websites. It supports entrepreneurship, making it easier for the little guy to make it big. It's the sort of situation that allows a Facebook to actually beat out a MySpace. Without net neutrality, a MySpace can buy their way into the fast lane because they're big enough, but a fledgling Facebook cannot afford to do so, they get throttled, and nobody wants to use their crappy, slow website.

You can still have tiered service speeds, if you want the 100Mbit package you can still get the 100Mbit package. If the 5Mbit line suits your needs fine, you can still have that. What the ISP can't do is have you pay for 5Mbits but decide that FoxNews.com will only come in at 200kb/sec but MSNBC.com will come in at full speed because your ISP's CEO happens to be liberal and he feels like doing that.

I trust them more then Obama...

now wireless is bunched into this disaster..

That's not what net neutrality does.

You keep calling it a disaster, can you name a specific regulation that is disastrous?

Correct. It was never an issue.

Because net neutrality previously existed. Were you not aware of that?

Can I keep my Dr? and how much again am I saving?

its not regulated today... this is a witch hunt to take our freedoms..
'
The fact its not regulated today is the problem. Regulation is neccessary otherwise the big corporations will take away the bandwith we have today. The regulation is meant to keep the internet the way it is today.

Regarding this topic. There's a whole healthcare subforum to go rant in. Here we're talking about internet regulations.

But I assume you knew that, because you aren't an idiot. Which means you couldn't actually name a regulation. It wasn't a fair question, because those regulations haven't been released yet. You're speculating.

The only thing that is going to change is the size of your cable bill with the new taxes.** Probably be about a page longer.
Look at your cell phone bill, then extrapolate what your new cable bill is going to look like. Don't complain, the govt needs your money! ;)

**I only see temporary censorshipping. Legal action should take care of that if the Constitution is upheld. (Do I have too much faith in our Judicial branch?)

does this mean we can finally find out the details of what the new super-secret regulations are?... anyone know if they will be posting them online, or will they remain "need -to-know' ?

So true. But righties fight all Govt. regulation no matter how beneficial. I think they would fight the 1st amendment because it "regulates" free speech. Net neutrality is very much the same thing.

in any event.... this will all being going to the courts... so bellyaching about government control of the internet or celebrating that you just saved the internet are not only ignorant, but also premature.

wrong.. we had competition before and you were free to buy the best service... now its going to be regulated like a utility.. do you have any idea what that really means?

I have no option on who provides my water or gas service or electricity..now I wont have an option here..it will all be the same
