US, NATO Troops Parade Near Russian Border in Estonia

they are a nuclear superpower that could wipe Ukraine off of the map, and you're talking about anti-tank artillery? sure. i'm sure they'll be very scared of that.

Russias armor and air assests will take a hit, and territory would not be gained. Even Russians understand that.

Lead, aid, organize, and supply our allies, move security forces to the region. Make it clear that if Russia wants a war for its aggression it will get it.

and you understand how real war with Russia ends, right?

Thank you Marshal Petain. The US is a NATO signatory, and therefore a full partner in European security. There is no "Europe's job" without the US. Let the Russians get a taste of first class anti-tank and counter-battery artillery and we'll see how "all-out" they want to be.

Are you advocating NATO go to war over the Ukraine?

They will be, because they're not going to use their nukes.

ah, so limited proxy war. how do you suppose that will turn out? will Russia just say, "aw shucks, we didn't want Crimea that much. you win." and go back home?

****, this **** is unreal.

Russia isn't in Ukraine, remember? ;)

And do you really think they are going to use nukes and turn the entirety of world opinion against them?

that is a very interesting question and one on which I have seen very little debate, especially among the informed. I would like to know what IS the likelyhood of Putin letting one off...you talk about world opinion, I wonder about reprisals....the minute a missile clears Russian air space NORAD knows and US missiles automatically arm or something....

Putin knows that. He also figured out somewhere, probably at a G-8 that Obama is a rookie, incompetent and a blow hard. Putin did not survive he KGB, Russian politics and two terms by being a wuss and he sure has the ability to take the measure of a man. So is he ready to have one dropped on Moscow for the sake of Ukraine?

Under Obama, he knows that won't ever happen, the the "Oh!" will offer cash instead. Aid if you get out or something.

Under Reagan? Bush 41? Clinton? Bush 43?

He's in there because he looked into Obama's eyes one time and knew he could.

NATO should support Ukraine unreservedly. Three NATO members (the Baltic states) are former parts of the USSR with large Russian minorities. If Russia can crush Ukraine then they are next, and NATO really will be at war. On the other hand, if Ukraine can assert its freedom to turn to Europe then the same sentiment may spread to Belarus . . .

i'd be quite happy with spending the next thirty years working on our own country. however, we get sucked into every war on the planet, and the world doesn't even pay us a tax. **** that. time to try another strategy. a strategy like if your region is three shades of ****ed up and you're the hegemon, then you handle that **** yourself.

I know this is hard for a lefty to understand, but sometime you just have to stop worrying about how you can extract wealth from others and fight.

The Russians are likely going to keep Crimea, but they cannot be allowed to destroy a Ukrainian government that seeks only self-determination and a western orientation.

NATO should look after its own.
Russia's economy is going to go thru hell. Inflation will start and hit double digits.
But going to war over Ukraine - Nope.

Putin can read Obama like an open book. So can the rest of the worlds unsavory characters.
Part of the consequences of the lefts "smart" diplomacy.

Speak loudly that you aren't gonna use your stick.

NATO will not go to war over Ukraine. But NATO should assist Ukraine to fight on its own behalf.

The Russian might be a dangerous imperialist. He is not going to use nukes in a skirmish like this one.

But I do not see what the argument is for the US to act, where the EU is letting their friend be robbed at gunpoint. If they want to look treaterouse?

Of course, it can pull us into a nasty spot, if the Russian grabs for Moldova or even Latvia.

Who asked the CIA to back rebels against the elected government in Ukraine?

The US gets sucked in my ass....

With armies across the globe, a spy network that couldn't see either the fall of the Berlin Wall nor 911 you have your fingers in every pie. And when you **** up, as Obama has done, you risk the lives of Americans as well as allies.

The US was not alone in either Afghanistan nor Iraq, and yet you bleat this garbage about standing alone. It is an insult to the men and women of other countries, Canadians, British, Pole etc. to moan this crap. Canada took the highest rate of casualties in Kandahar, we are on the ground in Iraq and pushing harder against Putin than you are, adding new sanctions weekly. And our troops remain there in non combatant rolls years after our agreed mission had ended.

You haven't 'handled' ****. It was French, Canadian and British jets flying missions with you over Libya and look what you have as a result? You can't even bring to justice the assassins of your servicemen. And now after allies helped you, there is a greater, more dangerous threat. Any nation would gladly follow that path....

Your president lies about pipelines and complains he doesn't want "Canadian oil" on his land, and you expect us to elope with you again? We have thousands of miles of American pipeline feeding you but u-uh, but "oh, could you spare some lives...we have another war..?"

How about you finish one, say Iraq, before flexing muscles where you have been specifically warned not to.

We can send all the arms we want, Russia will send more.
Russia is headed for economic ruin and this needs to be settled politically.
If not, the Eastern Ukraine will secede, the situation gets worse.
Crimea is lost to Russia.
But as I mentioned numerous time NATO countries have to pull up and spend at the 2 % of GDP level. Not many are doing that. Not sure if any countries outside of the US are?

Russia does not have unlimited first class arms to send. It will be settled politically as soon as Russia understands it cannot be settled militarily. They are not yet convinced, but they can be.

Why have one?

I say, Teddy would be rolling in his grave were he alive today. I know you think he was the first to exceed presidential powers, but I suspect the likes of Putin would have been humble in his presence, to which I say "bully!"

And, not just the world's "unsavory" characters....all of them. I suspect Harper has a good read on Obama. There is still a score to settle there.

i don't think NATO's charter would allow them to go to war over Ukraine. ???

I don't think so, although there is new "out of area" language from the 1990's. The point about Ukraine for NATO is Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, all NATO members.

I am extremely familiar with that history. The current state of Poland was not part of the USSR.
The link was to show how Poland was chopped up to its expansion and back to chopped up and so on over the centuries.
No more, no less than that.
