Scott Walker cut $541 million in taxes last year. Now his state will miss a $108 mill

Re: Scott Walker cut $541 million in taxes last year. Now his state will miss a $108

How do you figure?

Contracting out at the lowest wage possible. In some cases it is viable, not all.

Re: Scott Walker cut $541 million in taxes last year. Now his state will miss a $108

Did you stop beating your wife? That's a cool one.

How about the Washington Post do a story about how the state governments are doing in all the 50 states rather than singling out one state who has a governor who may run for President? Most of the time no one cares what happens in Wisconsin, what is the agenda now?
Due to the fact they published this one as it is a viable news story on financial mismanagement. Do not worry, any other State doing the same will eventually be published by some news organization.

Re: Scott Walker cut $541 million in taxes last year. Now his state will miss a $108

All I'm saying is hey, if were going to get into a debt debate, how about we get into the one that effects all of us as a whole? Not just one that only effects his state. Kind of makes you look stupid, as most here know this is just an attempt to go after him as he might be a possible candidate for presidency.

How does it make the Member appear stupid- Does that add to the discussion you are looking for? Not at all.
You are assuming that the Member is after this Politician, do you have more than just an assumption?
My question to you is, how long have you been here, all day?

Re: Scott Walker cut $541 million in taxes last year. Now his state will miss a $108

"By missing the May payment, Walker will incur about $1.1 million in additional interest fees between 2015 and 2017. The $108 million debt will continue to live on the books; Walker’s budget proposal for 2015-2017 will pay down no more than about $18 million of the principal."

So he cut $541 million in taxes and incurred an additional $1.1 million in fees? Can someone explain to me how this is fiscally irresponsible?

I was under the impression that ANY government deficit and hence additional debt was fiscally irresponsible.

Re: Scott Walker cut $541 million in taxes last year. Now his state will miss a $108

Do you mean state governments?

Like Kansas and Oklahoma having huge budget shortfalls, not because of a sagging economy, Oklahoma weathered the storm rather well, but because the CONs went ape cutting taxes without any grasp of what good governance involved... :2wave:

Or Illinois?? It has a $100 billion dollar pension debt that the new Republican governor has to resolve.

So the fact that member posted an entire thread based on what's taking place in his state, when that politician could very well run for presidency, is not a clear indication that the member is after him? Okay.

Why are they not blasting CA, NY, MI for their terrible budget woes? how big are their deficits there again? hundreds of billions of dollars?

Re: Scott Walker cut $541 million in taxes last year. Now his state will miss a $108

This is a clear observation of a dumb move.
Scott Walker's Risky College Experiment - Bloomberg View
It's hard to believe that Governor Scott Walker's proposal to cut $300 million from the University of Wisconsin’s budget over the next two years would allow the school to maintain its quality. Walker would prohibit the university from raising tuition during that period, but instead give university officials more flexibility in managing contracting and construction projects.

The theory is that this flexibility could yield savings equal to at least 13 percent of what the state contributes to the university’s budget. Good luck with that.

And ya want this kind of financial management at the Presidential level. Really.
Scott Walker cut $541 million in taxes last year. Now his state will miss a $108 million debt payment. - The Washington Post
In March last year, Walker signed a $541 million tax cut for both families and businesses. At that point, Wisconsin was facing a $1 billion budget surplus through June 2015, the Journal Sentinel reported.

By November last year, the administration was estimating a $132 million shortfall. In January, the non-partisan Legislative Fiscal Bureau pegged it at $283 million. The Bureau, which does research for the Wisconsin Legislature, explained that tax collections were $173 million worse than the administration’s own estimates in November.

...ion debt payment

This is the champion of fiscal conservatism and responsible governance? Oh My. Defaulting on a payment, costing the taxpayers' kids more in the future. This is my complete lack of surprise.
Maybe if he just cut taxes some more?

deferring does not equal defaulting.

I post news stories all the time- And does that mean I support each one?
Next- Is that all you have to go on?
Not interested in a pissing match, just good discussion.

Re: Scott Walker cut $541 million in taxes last year. Now his state will miss a $108

Privatizing creates monopolies that corrupt and abuse the populace. That is why you like them so much.

since monopolies are illegal and we have anti-trust laws to prevent them then well you are incorrect.

so please tell me why UPS, and FedEx still do very well for themselves and the USPS is in a hole so bad that they can't operate.

Re: Scott Walker cut $541 million in taxes last year. Now his state will miss a $108

The reasoning behind missing the payment is that tax cuts are a long term solution, not a short term solution. That means that there will have to be some sacrifice initially to see the results down the road. Tax cuts don't automagically create money, they take some time to help build the economy. This is why liberals just don't get the benefits of tax cuts - most liberals are short term oriented. If you don't see the results NOW, they didn't happen. I don't like the idea of missing that payment, as I'm sure Gov. Walker does as well, but I understand why it's necessary.

They are not in the "hole". The USPS has been forced by Congress to prepay their pension fund 20 years in advance. UPS and FedEx would be bankrupt too if they were forced to do the same.

Because the umpire wants to be part of a team.

yet congress won't fix it I wonder why. ol yea government nonsense. the USPS is in a hole because of government regulations nothing more.
if it could operate with more efficiency and more autonomy then I am sure it wouldn't have the millions of dollar deficits that it does.

again shows that government can't run things

If I recall Bush did that, results were not positive.

So you don't think that it's important to know about the leadership abilities, and successes and failures of candidates for president?

That's why our military is so weak and ineffective no doubt. The same goes for SS, Medicare and the National Parks. All miserable failures.

Re: Scott Walker cut $541 million in taxes last year. Now his state will miss a $108

And yet the debt that Obama continues to let bigger daily....

That's the norm for the federal government. It also happened under both Bush presidents, Clinton, Reagan, Carter, Nixon, etc.

It's not normal for states to make huge tax cuts, and then to skip scheduled payments on debt, especially when the governor is trying to paint himself as a "fiscal conservative".

Re: Scott Walker cut $541 million in taxes last year. Now his state will miss a $108

I'm afraid it's going to be hit piece after hit piece until election day or until the day he is no longer a candidate. Whichever comes first.

The stories will be written and the little partisans will get all riled up and huff and puff and point their fingers seemingly oblivious to the fact that their own candidate's closets are bursting at the seams...

Gotta love elections.

Absolutely. And of course the conservative press will do the same.

What's ashamed is that most of those voters who are considered "base" for either side, will never allow themselves to be exposed to the negative stuff about their favorite candidates, which probably explains why we keep electing idiots from both parties.

Re: Scott Walker cut $541 million in taxes last year. Now his state will miss a $108

I love it when I read about a governor cutting taxes. Nothing like letting people keep more of the money they earn.

Re: Scott Walker cut $541 million in taxes last year. Now his state will miss a $108

Thats the worst example. usps should be disbanded

Will UPS deliver a letter for 49¢? What about Fedex?

They would if they were allowed to. Maybe even cheaper.

Do you think the cost of a letter represents an actual figure?
