A little background first: On CNN, they don't actually have the headline on the front page that is listed in the title or the article itself. Instead, the link says "Fans to Black Man: We're racists and We Like It!" Now be honest, the moment you saw that headline, you thought this was going to fans somewhere in the deep south didn't you? Well if you did, then the jokes on you. But if you knew who Chelsea is, then you probably figured out pretty quick that it wasn't in the US then. In fact, this took place that bastion of racism.... Paris.

Chelsea 'fans' at center of racism storm

CNN said:
(CNN)A British football team has vowed to support any criminal action brought against its fans who were filmed as they physically stopped a black man from getting on the Paris metro Tuesday.

The amateur video obtained by The Guardian, and posted on its website, shows the man make multiple attempts to board a train at Richelieu-Drouot station, only to be pushed away each time by a group of passengers.

The group, who appear to be Chelsea supporters, can then be heard chanting: "We're racist, we're racist and that's the way we like it."

So first we have the antisemitism, now a bunch of sports fans are saying "they're racist and they like it"? What the hell is going on in Paris?

Sounds like drunk sports fans to me.

This is what people want to worry about, good gawd.

I very much doubt that either of you would be as dismissive if this happened after an Alabama Football game and they were doing this with a black fan. You would be saying that "this is just further proof of racism still bring around in the South." Perhaps the alcohol just loosened their tongue and allowed them to show what they really think.

(1) Blacks in France tend to be Muslim because they come from former French colonies in north Africa and use that connection to come to a European society where they can find work.

(2) Relations between immigrant (mostly black) Muslims and the ethnic French are bad in the best times (Paris is unofficially segregated with little mobility between districts) and after Charlie Hebdo these aren't the best times.

(3) Sports bring out feelings of nationalism which with the right-wing can quickly agglomerate into xenophobia -with alcohol speeding things along.

You would be wrong because

1) I live in the South and do not need anecdotal evidence racism is alive and well here; and

2) I don't get worked up over stupid people doing stupid stuff.

Dude, really! The United States is destroying people's lives and property all over the Middle East, which you defend every ****ing day, and this has your knickers in a knot. Jesus ****ing Christ, what is wrong with people, huh?

This is not suprising.

Sports in Europe, especialy football, is often clouded with political stuff and aligances.

In Spain and Italy there are clubs which used to be and to some extent still are openly fascist.

And everyone knows that Chelsea is a right wing club.

And to be honest that makes the European game so much fascinating.

It`s why I am a Liverpool supporter in the premier league and alway support Barca to take the La Liga title.

Chelseas racist fans is just one more reason to hate them for me.

But the main reason I hate chelsea still is the bus parking:

Does anyone remember this Paolo Di Cano from the Italian club Lazio (which used to be a openly fascist club):

And do you remember the hilarious press conference he gave and in which he tried to justify himself by saying:
"
No I am not a racist! I am a fascist!"

The same thing that's going on all over this planet.

Unfortunately you don't have to look very hard to find racism and bigotry-it's just about everywhere.

Including right here in the USA. Read the news.

True, but somehow it's worse when it's this kind.

Literally a couple of fans acting like scum and Chelsea have vowed to ban any fans they can identify. You are never going to get rid of racism unfortunately as us Humans are a hateful bunch, still far more media coverage of this than there should of been but that's not surprising because its an English team. Spurs ( an English team with Jewish roots) were attacked last year in france and it barley made the news.

BBC News - Tottenham Hotspur fans attacked in Lyon bar

Couple of fans stop a black guy and its world news...

Nope.

Best fans in the world though. I went to a Dortmund match a few years ago and it was the best atmosphere I Have experienced in my life.

Fascists are not necessarily racists- Mussolini's Italian fascism protected their Jewish population in WW2 until the Germans occupied much of the country. The National Socialists in Germany even refused to call themselves fascist.
